MCotP notes (Patreon)

It's funny, but with a lot of comics, I kinda see the canon as fairly static. Batman--Bruce Wayne is Batman, James Gordon is the Commissioner, Tim Drake is Robin or Red Robin... I don't really have much interest in keeping up with these status quo microadjustments, especially after Nu52. I'm aware of there being 'events' like Bruce Wayne: Murderer or No Man's Land, but those seems to me more like one-off deals than proper 'eras'. You don't really see a lot of fics (at least by me) set when Jason Todd is Robin, because it's mostly going to be the same thing--Joker's a bad guy, Penguin's a bad guy, Barbara Gordon's a good guy--in fact, the recent (pre-Nu52) continuity has a few cases of enriching characters, like making Penguin a 'legitimate businessman' or reintroducing Jason Todd as the Red Hood, et al et al.

Now, maybe this is more to do with me being something of a Marvel zombie, but I see the X-Men as being much less static. You have these eras of this line-up and this location and this central conflict and these costumes, and they seem a lot more different than Batman just eternally stopping Two-Face and such from robbing banks (though, admittedly, X-Men pretty much always comes back around to fighting Sentinels and Magneto being evil. It's like if America kept legalizing and delegalizing Jim Crow laws over and over again). So with this harem fic--and possibly this owes something to not really know what the hell is going on with the X-books these days, because their continuity is impossible and they've decided to say fuck it, Namor's a mutant--I decided to not only visit different love interests, but different eras, so even if some particular favorites get revisited, it can be at different points in timeline where the characterization and thus the chapter is very different.

Here, I decided to redo the Phoenix Five dissolution of Emma and Scott's relationship, with the idea that instead of Scott overreacting to Emma's infidelity with Namor, he decides to vent his anger in some hate sex which Emma, naturally, is into. I know the joke is that Emma is a total dom, but I thought given her subplot of losing control throughout AvX, it would make more sense to have her as something of a power bottom who relishes Scott giving her whatfor. (Although I do have in mind some sub!Scott business in later chapters.) And of course, I also got to play around with Emma's P5 costume--surely one of the skimpiest even in Emma's wardrobe, but our brave cosplayers are still willing to prove it has real world viability, God bless 'em.

Unlike a lot of harem fics, I do have an endpoint in mind for all these Phoenix-y time travel shenanigans, and something of a plot developing, depending on the readership's tolerance for Nightwing-style side stories in this. After all, Scott isn't the only Phoenix out there, and it'd be interesting to see if Namor and Colossus are up to similar business. 

(I imagine Juggernaut!Piotr seducing She-Hulk, who is adamant that she didn't have sex with that *other* Juggernaut, but is willing to see what all the fuss is about since she finds Piotr much, *much* more appealing than Cain Marko. Maybe that'll just be a cut-away gag, maybe it'll be a full chapter. I'll probably wait until the story is more firmly established before I let it go off on any such tangents.)

(Of course, Illyana's adventures would get us Kitty, and we all know she's the little black dress of the X-ladies.)
