So my publisher wants a book from me for 2017. Atm, they're looking for contemporary romance, not anything really genre, so what I'm thinking of is filing the serial numbers off The Wicked Stepmother.

It's an interesting notion, to me at least, because the original is pretty much an elongated PWP, so I think there's a lot of raw material there to take and construct an actual story out of--a sexy gothic romance with the Regina character as a lesbian, Byronic hero (bi-ronic hero?). And in paring the story down to fit the required length, I could get rid of the one big misstep I made in including Ruby in the festivities.

As I said, the original story was one big PWP, so I thought adding Ruby to the fun would just make things sexier. But you got a lot of people who signed up for straight Emma/Regina, and while maybe they wouldn't be adverse to Emma/Regina/Ruby--it just wasn't written on the tin, ya know? Plus, with all the emphasis on lust and teasing and lingering glances and soft touches, TWS was skirting the edge between erotica and porn. I think the threesome stuff put it firmly in the porn category. As the man said, erotica is using a feather, pornography is using the whole chicken. 

Now when I was initially publishing the story, I thought about taking off the serial numbers, but there I was considering making some kind of vampire story out of it, with Regina as an immortal bloodsucker to explain how she can both have been offended by Emma's parents and yet be of an age to romance Emma. Now I'm thinking more in the direction of another ABC show: Emma's parents did something to Regina's parents, so now Regina's grown up wanting revenge, and seducing Emma is only one part of her master plan to take out the parents. And since this is an uncanonical work, there's nothing to say this set of parents doesn't have it coming...
