Alright gang, first thing on the agenda this morning--continuing the LoK story and continuing the tidying up of Ex-Wives of Dracula. Today, I'm doing some house-keeping on a minor but still vexing issue. The story was inspired partially by Jennifer's Body, so I included a bit where our vampire, Lucia, can hover. She can't zip around like Superman, mind you, just sorta hover back and forth like Salem's Lot. It's pretty useless, until the climax where our heroine Mindy gets knocked off a bridge. Lucia jumps after her, catches up to her, uses her hovering ability to slow them down, but still hits the water. Well, we all know what running water does to a vampire, so Mindy has to be the one to drag *her* out of the water and save her. Well, that didn't end up happening. Lucia had done so much for Mindy already that having her jump off a bridge too just made Mindy seem ungracious. So, last minute, I changed it to Lucia getting knocked off the bridge, Mindy jumping after her and saving her, and this actually worked--Mindy rose a lot higher in my beta's estimation. However, this still left a few awkward scenes where we establish this ability of Lucia's that doesn't get paid off, and worse, has to be explained away as to why she or other vampires don't use it all the time. Now, most of the scenes were neat little changes, but there is one I was sad to lose. It's been replaced with a scene that I think is even better foreshadowing, but even so, this is one of those initial scenes I brainstormed for this story and I'm sorry to see it go.
