Hello all,

A short but busy month has soared past us but not without a gargoyle awakening from another crumbling corner of the edifice of global imperialism--not to mention the recent tactics undertaken in the systematic onslaught by legal means against trans and non-binary youth and their families in the US, UK, and beyond. Solidarity to oppressed and working class folks everywhere.

A short illness has put be back a few days in my busy schedule, but you should see some episodes this week.

The reading groups are going really well. They have been well attended and the discussion has been very rich. Where do we go next? Do we continue with the nomadology plateau or shall we move on? One possibility is revisiting the nomadology plateau at a later date and/or moving in sequence towards the Apparatus of Capture. I will put out a poll later today or this week. Feel free to offer some feedback either in the comments or via DM.

In March, we will have Pulitzer Prize winning poet Rae Armantrout on the show to discuss her new book and her 'sometimes very explicitly philosophical' poetry! I have been a fan of Rae's work for a long time and I WILL be starstruck on the day of the show.

I hope to publish a post on other happenings later this week. In the meantime, thanks for your continued support!

Best regards,

Craig

I would like to suggest that you consider dedicating an episode to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. I believe we fail as intellectuals/theorists/philosophers/thinkers if we don't dedicate some of our atention and thought capacity to the current geopolitical situation. So much can be discussed in relation to the war: Foucault's "politics is the continuation of war" or notion of resistance or enlightment inheritance of questioning our present; Agamben's state of exception; Baudrillard's theory on the realm of simulacrums in which modern mediatized wars take place; Derrida's writings on sovereignty, such as the sovereignty of philosophy to critique politics in name of perfect justice or sovereignty as unstable, fragile and open or hospitality in relation to ukranian refugees; Deleuze's becoming-revolutionary of a people and ukranian's resistance or his notion of what is it to think as a 'leftist' or his preference for jurisprudence over rights, etc.

I prefer to move onto Apparatus of Capture, but if others want to review Nomadology some more, I'd be fine with that too. I poked around through the Apparatus chapter to find some sweet nuggets to think on. As for the comment from Guillermo, I appreciate the desire to apply philosophy to current events. Though, as someone who has seen enough war first-hand to know there are no winners, I would appreciate a content warning if you all are going to talk about the current conflict beyond abstraction. The content warnings of past talks/podcasts were great. Keeping in mind living victims of war might be another to add to the list. Some of us are intentionally abstaining from certain types of info. Of course, it's not my show/group, but if you plan on talking about the battles raged in real time, I'll probably just skip the group for this week. Loving the talks. Keep being awesome!

I think there’s a lot to be gained from diving into the second half of that chapter. It really delves into the nitty gritty of the nomad as a war machine as well as the famous Clausewitz reversal “politics is a continuation of war by other means”. I accidentally ready all 70 pages of the chapter because I forgot about the limit. I was quite lost for a bit of it and would like some help walking through the examples they lay out. I think it’s necessary to do the chapter justice that we keep going through it. It was chosen second for a reason right? Also I’m personally just very interested in the “war machine” and how various philosophers are using it today.

I hope you will find time in the future to host a podcast that is dedicated and relevant to what is happening in UA. It is incredibly sad what is happening there. My friends who live in the country are scared and Al's resolved to fight to the death. It is simultaneously awful and an amazing example of courage in the face of death and anguish.
