Hello all! I'm pleased to announce version 0.08 of the renamed Overgrown: Genesis (formerly SZ) is now out on public release! Download link below:

https://mega.nz/#!JNpz3DBT!-U-Nm4U909ZwTddTHFQYA7jCtpHs7wSMLb0Cjc7SlG4

This is a fairly significant update for the Overgrown series, in terms of basically everything - gameplay mechanics, cosmetics, scenes, and so on. Currently only two out of the four new CGs are complete, with the other two being in B&W as of now, but since most of the actual gameplay is done I'm going with this month's policy of releasing all playable content immediately and patching in the CGs later.

As usual, the full changelog can be found below! Spoiler warning!

0.08 NEW CONTENT:

* The primary mission of the "Return to Brookside" questline is now ready and playable. Journey to Dangerzone North, and you'll encounter old enemies Billy and Gavin, who have been at each others' necks and left destruction in their wake. In this mission, the main goal is to retrieve the APC, which will allow the evacuation of the safezone to begin. Do note the safezone evacuation CAN start without completing the sidequests - but this will result in a penalty that I will expand upon in the next update.

* Dangerzone North maps have been added. These include the Suits HQ, the Garage, and the Flooded Basement.

* Added the new Reptile enemy, who comes ready with his "attack" scenes. His bad end scenes will be patched in shortly. Reptiles are found in watery/flooded areas. They replace the Crawlers in the Safezone Sewers.

* Watery/flooded maps now disable Juno's ability to run, making it that much more terrifying when you see the new Reptiles and move at a crawl...

* The Runner's bad end scene now has new CG!

* Added new sprites and facesets for the "Operative" (first seen in the hospital at Hamlin Square) and the "Soldier" (who you will find after the evacuation).

* All items now have relevant icons attached to them! A small, but essential cosmetic element!

* New item system that organises your loot for you!

* Experimental new "barter" system in place for all merchants that should make trading a less hectic affair.

* All those bottles of bleach you found now have a use. Certain areas of the map will be cut off or blocked by plant growth, which can be destroyed using bleach. These won't block essential pathways, but instead things like loot and shortcuts.

* Small parts of Fort Patton are playable immediately post-evacuation. Will expand in later updates, especially with regards to how well you did in the evacuation process.

* SFX effects added here and there... too numerous to list individually.

0.08 FIXES:

* Fixed the missing fadeout for the Anguished Runner.

* Typos and grammatical errors in dialogue corrected here and there... Let me know if you find any!

* Tileset issues tweaked with to allow better movement ability. Can't be perfect, really, given the nature of the engine and the way the tiles work.

---

0.08.2 PATCH:

* Added CG + text for the Reptile Bad End scene.

* Added CG + text for the Hound Bad End scene.

* Hopefully, fixed the bug that stopped Cassie's quest being marked as complete.

* Numerous cosmetic issues with tiles and text have been addressed.

I may have made wrong choices, but is there any chance you'll be able to accept Gavin's offer?

Hmm.. I can't access the second computer in the subway anymore, not sure why.

無月

Ah, nevermind. I think the computer is off center somehow, accessed it by being a space away from the desk.

Not very fan of RPG's, but after reading the description of the game... I'll give it a try :)

You can access it, just stand in front of the desk and press the Interact button. It won't work when you stand on top of the desk since the game believes you're not standing on the correct tile. On that note, there's an ungrabbable sparkle in the supermarket east of the new Safe Zone. It's the one on the set of shelves opposite to some red boxes. https://i.imgur.com/WhLszRH.png Other stuff: Picking the HP levelup bonus doesn't get you a free +2 in a stat if you select it upon exiting the subway into Hamilton. It seems to work correctly when entering New Brookside and Fort Patton though. Also, my ammo at some point glitched up. In the Fort, i shot up all my shotgun ammo, left the game and reloaded an old save in New Brookside. All my ammo was now 0, but when i picked up some pistol ammo it was back again. I then switched to the shotgun, only to see my pistol ammo numbers were now displayed as feeding the shotgun as well. https://i.imgur.com/Xjy9698.png Then, when i had the shotgun equipped, i took the APC back to New Brookside, and now my shotgun ammo correctly showed 2/2 and 7... But so does my Pistol ammo now. From the looks of it, the game's having trouble distinguishing the different types of ammo, and tends to use the ammo count of whatever ranged weapon you have equipped over keeping track of it separately. EDIT: Yeah, the save's just busted. It just ported in my ammo count from a different save as well, so no worries there. Lastly (and this is a big one) NOT accepting any of the sidequests in New Brookside before leaving for Patton will have the game think you've completed all of them because they're not listed as Ongoing Missions.

Old saves don't work. Any help?

When are they from? You need to start a new game if they're before 0.07. Also, as every update includes script overhauls, it's always advised to start a new game if your save starts bugging up.

Dar Lock

The second computer in the subway terminal is trapped inside of its desk. I cannot access it from any direction and it makes getting through the subway tunnels near impossible.

Yeah, when i did a quick run to grab the screenshots i was surprised when the game pretended the convoy got started in perfect condition. It just seems to be the text though, as Natasha didn't spawn in Fort Patton when i never accepted the quest to free her. I did a complete playthrough as well, so i know where she's supposed to be if you do get her. Also, no probs. I got the hang of screenshotting now so i'll keep an eye open. :)

The game lets you walk right into the desk, but you need to stand one tile lower facing the desk, i.e. from where you'd normally be activating the computer. It'll work fine then, the game just needs to see you standing in the right place (and facing the right direction) for the interaction to trigger.

Great work! 👍

How the heck do I get my hands on this APC that i'm being told about? I feel like I've been to every area and killed every single zombie thing at this point. idk what the area is called, but it's with the runners and reptiles.

Without giving too many spoilers... all the answers are in the area 1 east and 1 north of New Brookside. You need both a certain keycard and some fuel to get it up and running.

The work of three artists is featured on O:G - armandox, Nikki, and pigutao. The Reptile scenes were done by pigutao.
