Why I’m Saaaaalty 🎶 about No Limit Round 1 NOT because of the judges. They’re fine. In these type of shows the expert judges are there to deliver commentary and the audience (in this case the “judging panel”) are usually the one’s who decide the outcome. This is in the end supposed to be a friendly competition and I certainly feel like ppl are taking it way more seriously than they should. But because of THE VOTING SYSTEM USED. It really felt extra 🐟fishy fishy 🐟to me. Now, hear me out on this. In this situation the judges have to pick which performance they liked best and this amounts to points. The problem with this however is that no matter which team performs second, they have the advantage over the team that performed first: 1. The time between the two performances (taking down and building up the different stages etc.) already allows the impact of the first performance to wear off. 2. After watching the Second team’s performance that is going to be the most recent and fresh memory you have. —> The lingering Impact of performance No. 2 will therefor always be greater than that of No. 1 since it’s more recent and thus you’ll be more inclined to give it a vote. Mayfly had this advantage ALL THREE TIMES. I would have been less concerned if they switched it up and one group got the advantage twice. I would then just attribute it to being lucky, but this was just downright UNFAIR. 3. With this kind of voting system you have no idea how many people actually enjoyed your performance. The judges could have chosen the other team over you by a really small margin and you would never know. This can cause a huge blow to your confidence if you’re on the losing team honestly. (Like, damn. Just watch It’s One’s reactions each time they see how little points they got.) Pfft Could you then come up with a better system? 🙄………….Actually…….YES. It’s really not that difficult. Just let the judges vote while watching the performances. A judge can choose to give their vote or not to the team while they’re performing. This way someone could end up voting for both teams, only one, ore none at all. The team that then has the most votes wins. This is literally been done in so many programs including Hit The Stage, Signhere, Show Me The Money etc. The method in show me the money is my favourite since you can literally see the “votes” going up during the performance, it hypes everyone up and it’s then a reflection of how much the audience is enjoying your stage. You won’t then have the problem of 1&2 I mentioned previously and even if the team loses (3) it’ll feel less harsh since they’ll have visible evidence of how much people actually enjoyed their performance. My rankings for this round were: Rap: It’s One - Dance: It’s One - Vocal: Mayfly But yeah. I’m not just saying this because the team I was rooting for lost, I was impressed by all the effort they put in and I loved the teamwork between the different groups. I also am not going to be immature and blame my teams losing on Mnet since I honestly think Mayfly would have still won all three rounds had the voting system I mentioned been used. Everybody calling Mnet a snake every time their team doesn’t do well is just so… Like bruh. What are you? Two? The whole setup of Kingdom is awesome. It’s such an amazing amazing opportunity for each group. They get to collaborate, which is such a rare precious experience for each group. They gain more exposure which will be beneficial to each of their comebacks after the show. No more dragged out results that take up half an episode, more witty captions, no more microwave level video quality, genuine EXPERTS being brought in for the judging process, huge stage production value. They are really shoving the monies into this show. There are so so so many people at work on each stage. Like have you even seen in the fancams, the absolute ACROBATICS those camera men are pulling off with those huge rigs?! And those backup dancers constantly forming literal architectural structures with only their bodies? 😅😂 The stylists that wake up at ungodly hours to prepare their soups rushing around with heavy suitcases filled with enough clothes and costume changes to clothe an army, the fact that most of the videos are getting Eng Subs, even the behind clips and teasers on YouTube. There is so much to be thankful for and yet all I see are people complaining saying they wish this wasn’t a competition. I’m sorry mate. But the show would be a lot less interesting if this wasn’t a competition. I’m sorry to break it to ya. But that’s kind of the whole point of a “Legendary War” concept. It’s not a “Legendary Tea Party” 😐

The fact that jeff is being bias on reaction is clearly seen without telling us by words. 🤣😂

TAEYEON actually watched the broadcast performance of It's One. She also posted it on her IG story. ❤ I mean, seeing her showing support means a lot. Being acknowledged by the original singer is a really really big accomplishment. She's so proud of them. Although they did not win, I'm still happy for them. They did great. I'm just worried about INSEONG tho. I just hope he doesn't beat himself too much because of what happened. Their rehearsals was great tho. I guess it's because of too much pressure because they were the last chance of It's One so he got nervous. But still, they really did so well. 👏🏻 On the side note, Jeff can you react to TAEYEON next time also please? or you can just listen to her songs if you want to. She's the leader and main vocalist of Girls' Generation by the way. ☺️❤

eve_ss

You're right. EUNKWANG has been active in theater musical scene for a while now. Him and CHANGSUB actually. ☺️💯👏🏻 Oh btw, Changsub is cast as one of the leads in the upcoming musical 'Mary Antoneitte' together with NCT's Doyoung. (I heard they would play the same role) I guess that's why for most of the time he's not on the reaction parts because he's busy. just to share with you. 🙂

I hope that Inseong knows that it isn’t his fault. Even the voices of vocals like Exo’s Chen can crack sometimes but no one would call him a bad vocal because of it. I saw that some were making fun of him because of that mistake

Victoria

As someone who is minho biased, I got so happy seeing him get so much screen time in their performance 😭

Lawresha

I know we are getting back into regular non collaboration kingdom but I really appreciate what relationships mayfly has created I didn't realize just how much they have gotten closer until ateez members where mentioning stray kids in their live and minhyuk said that straykids are like his baby's and they have took turns going to his home seungmin has been 3 times and chan hasn't been to his home but they each other at peniels home and felix hasn't been to his home but he's going to start playing a video game that felix loves to play so they can play together and said his home is like skz second dorm and I just really appreciate the bonds stray kids have created with others so far

Notes on this episode: - Jinhwan came PREPARED lmfao. Did you see the shoes he was wearing when he went to FNC? 😂💀 - I’m really glad that they showed that Inseong CAN hit that note. Idk. He really is an amazing vocalist so I’m glad ppl got to see that. I just want to give kingdom’s editor a box of chocolates or something. - I honestly can’t wait for all of the songs to be released on Apple Music. They keep showing the icon but it’s still not on there. I really loved their version of Spark and I would love to listen to a properly mixed version since I really agree with you that the MR was a bit too low here and that it kinda reduced the impact of certain parts in the song. - Jongho singing A Thousand Years of Love made me think of Hwiyoung (SF9) lol. Fellow Fantasy’s. If you know…. You know ;) - Beautiful as expected. Doing a ballad is a bit of a cliché but who cares. Their performance was absolutely beautiful and it touched the heart. A well deserved win in my books. - Rollin’ is by Brave Girls. It’s a song that came out in 2017 but it went viral this year and the girls went from being a completely unknown group to literally winning over the likes of SHINee, Rosé and IU at music shows. It was literally the most heartwarming underdog story ever. - Ju-ne’s theatrical prequels to their performances just make my day lol - Love to see iKON repping the YG family ^^ - The other groups getting a minor heart attack at the thought of GD actually appearing sent me lol. I remember back when MINO was on SMTM and Taeyang made an appearance how everyone else was just like. Damn. It’s over. IT’S OVER. 😂 Big Bang will forever remain freaking Legends. - The “sack over the head” bit reminded me of the Born hater performance of YG fam at MAMA 2014 - I personally wish Lisa’s part could have been “with iKON” It felt like a separate performance within their performance. Due to it being so separate I actually think they might not rank that high despite having such a big feature. The way it was arranged made Lisa’s part stand out too much since this is supposed to be an iKON (feat. Lisa) performance not an iKONxLisa performance if you get what I mean?? - Stray Kids’ arrangement was so….. Stray Kids lol - I loved the Deadpool theme. The arrangement of the song itself was incredibly cinematic as well. - All of SKZ albums were shown on the big pot. Just a fun little detail there ^^ - Felix and BangChan’s little narrations sent me. ^^ - Han’s hat will birth a lot of glorious memes I’m sure of it. - The guns felt a little out of place in some dancing scenes ngl. I would have probably preferred them just to form finger guns, somehow that looks cooler imo. - Juhaknyeon (TBZ) wins the prize for most witty reaction. "Wait I need to see this with two eyes.." 🤣 - I’d love to see some less “fast, loud” raps from 3RACHA though. Not that it’s not good. It just… idk. I’d love to see another side of Changbin than only “I like darkeu”

Ok I have two problems with iKON's stage. 1. How do you have one of the most amazing GG performers like Lisa and not utilize that? They literally just had her perform the same verse that June had already performed and there was no special rap/dance added. Like don't get me wrong she did great but I still feel a bit let down especially because I KNOW that Lisa is capable of doing so much better. They could have at least had her join them towards the end on the main stage for a dance break or something. There were so many things they could have done with this collab and they literally just had her repeat one verse in a separate stage and called it a day. Why? Was she originally not part of the performance and added last minute? Because that's what it felt like when she repeated the same verse. From what I've seen (correct me if I'm wrong) Lisa seems to be able to pick choreo pretty fast so I don't see why they couldn't have done something different. 2. This is probably just a personal thing but for me this rearrangement of the song just wasn't it. As someone who loves the original song, I probably wouldn't listen to this version outside of this performance. I was really looking forward to this rearrangement because I LOVED iKON's version of inception (I actually thought I wouldn't like their version of inception because it's literally my favourite Ateez song but I loved it). But this version of Pretty Savage didn't do anything for me. It just didn't add anything different to the song. Other than that, I'd say they did well in the overall performance.

You should check out BTOB-Blue (vocal unit) on Immortal Songs, they are absolutely incredible! Beyond this world! I recommend "To My Love" & "Under the Sky".

So few days ago #iKON Donghyuk on his Vlive actually explained a bit about their CLASSY SAVAGE performance and I found this translation on twt: (credits to @Barbiespooh twt acc) "Dorky iKON is watching the tv as usual, but who will be featuring? In our company there's Big Bang, Winner hyungs, us and Blackpink and we're just watching thinking 'wow so cool~' But the tv turns off, like Jumanji, a new world appears and we end up in a savage jungle. We get attacked by the savages with spears and get kidnapped by them in the jungle. It represents hardships, survival and challenges. We wanted to show that although we get flustered at first but we can overcome it cooly! But to help us there is a messiah-like figure, Lisa who appears! So we wear fancy clothes as well and become one with the people in the jungle and enjoy the stage. At the end we go like 'wahhh yeahh we can go back to our original world~' but Yunhyeong turns off the tv like beep 'we can still have more fun!' The end. I don't really know what I'm saying" 😂😂 ---- The moment Donghyuk mentioned Jumanji, everything suddenly clicked to me. I was like YAAAS OMG that's right! Very witty iKON! 💯👏🏻🥰 Introduction Stage - The Avengers To The World - La La Land Reborn - Inception No Limit - Jumanji

eve_ss

I think it's kind of because of YG restriction. I heard Blackpink members were not really allowed to openly interact with their colleagues and even before when they were just trainees. (just my guess tho) I really understand what you're trying to say. But yeah, I'm just more than grateful that they let Lisa at least to be part of this. This is a big favor already. I heard iKON members personally asked LISA for this featuring and I'm so happy that Lisa agreed to it despite of her busy schedules and in between of her solo debut preparations. Their little interaction after the performance tho. They are so cute. 🥰

bang bang bang bigbang king of k-pop , i miss bigbang so much

Doyoungismyult

I still think It’s One deserved to win the dance round. I loved that there whole dance was original and they showed only dance with no backing track. I liked the other performance as well but it didn’t leave as much of an impact to me because it felt like a cover instead of a new and exciting performance 🥰

May

Wtf. That's terrible. Even great vocalists like Changsub have voice cracks occasionally. Doesn't mean they're bad vocalists.

May

Stray Kids are really just a bunch of successful fanboys. IU put the love poem performance in her story and told everyone to stream the full version and praised them. Ryan Reynolds mentioned Skz on his Twitter and we even had a Japanese actress (I forgot her name but she's in a series called Alice in Borderland on Netflix) post them in her story and she even linked the performance in her bio. All this just after one performance. Chan even changed his name on Bubble to Chris Reynolds 😂 I'm so proud of them and the performance is still trending even after two days. On another note, I love the bond that the Mayfly team have. Ateez even mentioned Skz during their Vlive and they said their group chat is still active. Minhyuk said that at this point his house is Skz's 2nd dorm because they visit him so much 😂

kai

that ikon stage was a waste of lisas time she aint even dance just barely sung the song like it wouldve been so good if she danced or was on the same stage as them

Doyoungismyult

I don’t understand this whole “competition” thing you keep saying. Kingdom is yes “a competition” but it’s also about groups going on and showing there color through songs and working with the other groups. I think we need to get the mindset of thinking it has to be a certain way out of our heads. Ikon is not stray kids. Ikon are different and unique and have there own color just like stray kids are different and unique and have there own color. Both of there performances were amazing because it was truly them. It all comes down to what you prefer. I just hate this “let’s compare constantly”. All it does is cause fan wars. At the end of the day kingdom is supposed to be a fun time watching groups have fun and do what they love to do. The second part of this round in particular is about them and showing what they love with no limit and ikon are always vining. That is them. Same with stray kids being powerful performers, the Boyz being theatrical, BTOB being phenomenal vocalists, sf9 being sexy and artistic, and ateez being amazing dancers and performers. This round they are all going to show what they love to do. I think we should look at it from this perspective instead. 🥰

kai

and another thing that taeyeon song is hard to sing mainly all her songs are hard to sing and they’re only meant for her so props to them for even covering spark and doing a good job bc not everybody can cover her songs

Anonymous

For Changbin slower, less agressive, more 'lyrical' type of rap you should probably check out Levanter, Ex, My Universe, Streetlight, and Piece, the SKZ-Player he did with Seungmin. You can also check Yoon Jisung's "You... Like The Wind" that Changbin featured in, I think it's still relatively fast in the song, but you get to see how his rap style can fit outside of Stray Kids songs.

LisMM

Totally unrelated but: ATEEZ were on immortal songs again today for the Psy special. (Great Episode Btw, nearly all of PNATION came to either perform or as audience members) If you’re ever in need of some good filler content maybe consider checking out the whole episode? On a side note. I really do wonder sometimes if these boys ever get any sleep 🥲 I am ready to go fight KQ if they don’t get that holiday they were promised after Kingdom lmao.

jeffavenue

i agree! if i was really watching this just on my own i wouldn’t care a squat about the competition aspect lol. but as people are subscribed to me for various reasons especially to hear performance and competition insight, i have to talk about that aspect. i have acknowledged many times that it doesn’t make sense to rank them anymore especially last round :)

jeffavenue

oh yesss jumanji makes sense! so there are movies themes and they didn’t make that clear on the broadcast? or was that just like initiated by groups?

Mikela Ekstrøm Hansen

I totally agree! Don't get me wrong I enjoyed Mayfly's performance, but I was blown away with It's One's storytelling :)

jeffavenue

ohh ya that voting system you mentioned would’ve been interesting. they did that in the unit auditions too. i lol’ed at ‘legendary tea party’ but honestly i’d watch that show too so let’s produce it 😂🙌🏽

Yes, Eunkwang started being active on the musical theater scene since 2017. Not to mention his mother also has a great voice with a soprano vocal register. So yeah it just naturally runs on him. 😅 They actually did a duet on Immortal Songs and they won! You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MTyqNFGkDo

bsr RM94

i need you to react to Ikon performance on Fantastic duo rain and your story it honestly so good and a Rock perfomance. Junes voice fits it so well. I would love you to react to it Jeff.

Anonymous

I am really speechless with Jongho's high notes. That Mayfly performance is just super perfect. Everyone did amazing! <3

Madie Lee

It's One has amazing vocal color. They have different style but mixing it together sounds super beautiful. In still rooting for that team regardless. Awesome job. I hope that Inseong will feel better soon after his little mistake on the performance. It's live so mistakes are sometimes inevitable. All in all I love their Spark version. :) And omg iKon x Lisa ♥

Anonymous

Seungmin is an amazing vocalist. He’s originally a baritone, but his range is incredible. He has such a beautiful and unique tone and SKZ are very lucky to have him. Mayfly unit is comprised of musical geniuses. You can really feel the love and passion they have for music. The way vocal unit made eye contact with eachother while singing, Eunkwang mouthing the lyrics towards Seungmin when he was singing with Jongho, them talking about how grateful they were to be able to perform w/ each other, etc etc... just in total awe of their chemistry. I’m not a huge fan of Ikon’s performance. I don’t know why they didn’t utilize Lisa’s amazing dancing skills... and overall, it just didn’t feel very cohesive. Nonetheless, it looks like they had fun on stage, and in the end - especially for a group that’s been on multiple survival shows - that’s all that matters. SKZ went all out for this round.. their performances are just on another level and I truly believe this is the best performance on the show, thus far (although I don’t know how anyone will top this). SKZ really excel at these type of bombastic and intense performances while still being super fun to watch. The way they highlight each individual member’s talents, the live adlibs, the cheesy lines, man this whole concept (who else performs with a giant rice cooker???)... this entire performance was so Stray Kids. They exude a certain charisma on stage that no one else can replicate; they are truly a group that was born to perform on a stage.

Aleksandra

Stray kids were absolutely amazing probably my favorite performance on kingdom yet! Also fun fact seungmin told in his latest vlive that lee know participated in making the choreo specifically he made the intro part😳

Samantha

Essay length commenting is back again ready for Jeff's reaction to ep 8! ^_^ A quick thought that I wanted to add having rewatched all of the performances from last week and why I personally think Its One deserved the win: Ateez owned that performance. Not Mayfly as a whole, just Ateez. Even with the comradery between all the members of that performance unit and the strength that Minho and Felix bring with them on stage, the Ateez members absolutely outshined them. Normally that's not a bad thing, in every group/subunit you do have members that just shine a bit more for each song and performance that you do but for this round being such a focused thing they really needed to have their levels of performance more united for the stage. I felt that the Its One team just had more of that for this specific stage/performance. Just my extra thoughts on last week since we got the results for it here! So the vocal teams: tbh the reaction that I was looking forward to the most from Jeff! Its One- All I'm saying is that the Boyz really do deserve more love for their vocalists bc damn they are incredible!!!! Also, to address the main point that people unfortunately are remembering this entire performance for; Inseong's note. Honestly, it wasn't that bad. Like his members said to him in the waiting room afterwards that the best thing he did with that mistake was to finish the note off. Overall, it wasn't enough to fully break the song for me and I think that the full group did such an incredible job this round. They produced a stage that was a fantastic mixture of emotional and intensity that really made this a wonderful song and performance for me as a viewer! Mayfly: oh my god. did I cry during this performance due to the emotional intensity in their voices? maybe so! Listen, this song felt like a musical number, not a pop song and not a kpop song. The arrangement and performance that these men put on stage felt like a story was being told and that they were showing a part of their hearts to us as the audience. Not to mention that Seungmin really got to have his moment in the sun here without completely discounting what the other 2 were putting on stage with him. They clearly deserved this win this round and I'm so proud of them for it! (Also, Jongho and Seungmin musical debuts when???!!!!) ****I felt like this performance gave me the same vibe as when tbz and oneus collabed on rtk. It was just a joy of performing along with a song that had a beautiful message for fellow performers. Anyone else's thoughts? Second Half Performances: iKon: finally finally finally some BlackPink/iKon interactions!!!!!!!!!! We need more tbh. I feel the same for this performance as I did when they covered Inception; I personally like the original better and yet I'm so pleased that iKon rearranged it to fit their YG vibe! It made the performance much more believable for them doing it rather than BlackPink and I found it so incredible! However, you have LISA featuring and you barely use her????? nah, she deserved some more, whether that be a new verse for Kingdom or a dance moment, she should have had more. Still, a fantastic job, overall 8.5/10. Stray Kids: World domination indeed Mr. Bang Chan!!!!!! This is Stray Kids best performance so far in Kingdom imo. They put their own energy and personalities into this stage and really made it something new and fully a Stray Kids stage. Honestly I havent seen a stage this put together and well done since Ateez's Wonderland back in round 1. 10/10 for sure!!!!!! Can't wait for next week with the rest of the groups' performances along with your reaction Jeff! ^_^

Anonymous

I don't know if you know this Jeff but Inseong (SF)) does Theatre Musicals. As far as i know he's currently performing in his second one. So my hope is that he's built some cooping mechanism to not always being on his best and is able to bounce back quickly. As an SF9 bias i was hearth broken over them loosing all the team competitions. Sadly, after calming myself down, i can acknowledge that the vocal Mayfly performance was better. For the rap and dancing i'm biased towards It's One of course but i agree with a previous comment made on the last Kingdom post where the commenter talks about the Mayfly performances being preferred because they are more inline with the tone of the show (more KPop overall performance like) whereas It's One Rap and Dance performances where more focused on the Rap and Dance gender itself. All of that being said. The highlight of this episode was the interactions and love between the groups for sure. As always, thanks for the effort you put into the reviews. I always look forward to them.

Layla123

I like your connection of the Love Poem cover to TBZ x Oneus on RTK, which was one of my favourite performances! For me, the best stages have been ones I can emotionally connect with, and both these performances did that for me while delivering a sweet, simple, but heartfelt message.

Anonymous

For me personally I think the reason why TeamMayfly won all 3 units is because they actually seemed like a team not just different groups given a part and trying to execute it. The chemistry was great in TeamMayfly all units. For the first 2 performances we got I think I'm the only one who wasn't really feeling Ikon's performance, to me Lisa was underwhelming. But I loved Stray Kids performance!

Anonymous

BTOB is having the time of their lives, and IKON is chillin and having some fun. I'm really happy to see these seniors having so much fun.

Anonymous

I would recommend you to listen to the original version of 'Love Poems'. It's amazing !!!

Anonymous

I love IKON's vibe, imagine being a live audience. It would feel like a concert and am sooo here for that!!!!

Anonymous

Jeff it would be cool if you watched their survival shows "WIN" (with winner, Ikon, GOT7 and Day6) and "Mix and Match" (with hongseok from pentagon, he was gonna debut with them).

Anonymous

I think I am getting kingdom fatigue. :). The stages that most impress me are the ones that are unique and cohesive. I want to see something different on a stage and not be reminded of a past one ... I give props to each groups improvements though going from one round to the next. Everyone is upping their game.

Rahaf

Seungmin's " here I am" was the most beautiful thing i've ever heard, he has such an unique tone. I still get goosebumps every time I listen to it.

Anonymous

same. I feel like they brought Lisa just because of her "fame"/influence. She is an amazing dancer, like one of the best in kpop, and they didn't even let her dance...

Whimbie

I know it's been like a month since you posted this, but since nobody said anything regarding your questions about Eunkwang (unless you've been informed since this was posted, and if so I apologize and please ignore this lol) I thought I'd try. He was been in about 8(?) musicals since his debut , but I'm not 100% sure how much and what kind of training he received. If I remember correctly though, he did choir since he was little, along with his mother (who's also a great singer btw). If you're ever interested in reacting to it or even just watching it on your own, they did an absolutely stunning and emotional performance together of the song "With Love" in 2017 on Immortal Songs! I believe it was a Thanksgiving special.

Anonymous

I agree about San, he’s actually really well loved and known in the kpop industry for his performance skills…

Anonymous

I felt crushed for Inseong! He has a stunning voice, as all the performers here do and he should take feel good about his performance overall. Im a dancer not a singer but its obvious how incredibly hard that note was to hit and hold. On another note Im so proud of Seungmin! Im a new Stay but his voice is magical and he doesnt get to show it off like that much. He worked so well with Eunkwang and Jungho who are both insane vocalists as well. Every time I hear that performance I cry, it was so emotional!
