Unfortunately this was the plague of UNB and UNI.T; choreo is great, song is great, music videos? Horrible. I think if the music videos were done better, they would have gotten so much more attention.

jeffavenue

oh ok, I thought I was the only one! I didn't say this in the reaction but maybe the budget was very limited because the contract was only 7 months. there's no long term investment involved.

Yeah :) That was good times! So for the girls you were shocked about no more being sexy but almost every girl group from the second generation were doing sexy concept sometimes far more than that ( brown eyed girls, sistar, stellar, after school ...). You can see it in the show when the older members in the unit had to do cute concept it was hard because they are not young but also they all come from sexy group. My opinion : that's the reason I don't really like popular group nowadays they all do girl crush and I don't really like it. For the ranks I by far prefer the girls songs I love no more and I mean equally. :) I'm so happy to rewatch produce with you. I have seen a lot of survivals and I think it's still the best one with WIN and Mix nine

I do agree the boys could have had more dance shown in there videos, but their songs could very much fit in with today's kpop scene. I'm glad Chan got center and main vocals, I thought they would put the most popular or top 2 as center, because that happens alot. But I'm glad everything was seemingly equal. As for the girls, that first video, the dancing was very western to me in a way considering the sexy concept in the west vs. korea. The korean sexy concept for girl groups are not much, so I was surprised to see such moves, especially for a debut. Nevertheless, the vocal were really on point. As for their second song, it's very much a debut song of today considering the whole "retro and quirky" aesthetic is trending largely. Even if the song is generic sounding, it would probably chart well today. Overall, both groups had a solid concept of where they wanted to take the group temporarily and they made it work.

UNB= united nations of beagles 🤣🤣🤣 my dorky boisss i love theem I agree with you, my fav for unb is only one. I can play this song a whole day. Cuz this is soo goood. The feels OMG. And for uni.t i mean was a lot better indeed. Super catchy song and fun It was so unfortunate they only have 7 months contract. Unb did better they have concert/fanmeet in korea, japan and thailand. Well I dont know what happened with the girls. They didnt have concert or fanmeet outiside korea. Might be company issue? Not sure

Can you please react to nct dream rooftop fight, it is the funniest thing I've ever seen.

UNB and UNI.T disbandment were still one of the biggest regret of Kpop industry! They could have been big! But the company that KBS let them managed messed up! FEELING MV really didn't gave justice to the song. I enjoyed the live performance so much better! I mean it's obvious just by looking at the views. You should try watching their live stages for this ☺️ I'm glad you like ONLY ONE because that was my favorite UNB song too!! So emotional and the performance and the vocals was so good! The feels tho. I feel like crying again 😢 BLACK HEART was indeed such a performance based song! It was so underrated I am so mad! Although it did get a good response when it was released, it was the same time with comebacks of much bigger groups and again, the company's fault of not promoting them properly. At that time, JUN and HANSOL were mostly absent as well. JUN was busy with his schedules and HANSOL was injured. It was sad because we didn't even get a proper goodbye from them. Not even a last album or a single at least. They just disappeared. and then the disbandment was announced. I'm just glad that they are all still friends and still kept in touch with each other. Love their bond! and they're all fun to watch together ☺️❤ (Also, thank you for the mention! and reading my suggestion. Really appreciated! I'm so kilig! 🥰)

Only dropping here that the red haired backup dancer from that UNB performance stage was Anne ;-)

I really like unb, so sad I wasn't a fan when they were active. I don't know if you intend to watch some of their variety content ? They have really great chemistry, most of the final's beagles made the final lineup.

Anonymous

Chan seemed to be a center a lot (double center with Jun), not just main vocal. It's very surpising considering how it usually goes with these survival show groups ; he really did make it in 9th place as you remembered. Well, from what some unme (fans of unb) told me, he was possibly the most popular member once the group debuted ? I can't confirm, I wasn't a fan at the time.

Anonymous

I totally agree about everything you said for uni-t, and your choice for a debut song. For unb, I also think Black heart would have made a great debut, but Feeling isn't technically a bad debut song, I'd say the MV is confusing. Black Heart is more hype, and I think the problem def wasn't the styling, but the backup dancers in Black heart. There were a lot, and the backup dancers were styled the same way the unb members were styled, they blended. For new fans, this would be very confusing.

UNI.T's "I MEAN" in Korean title is 난 말야 (Nan Malya). ”말" (mal) also means the "horse"... that's why they put horse riding dance move lol also the song was by Brave Sound(brave brothers)? The song must be iconic

S H

Yay~ So some tidbits for “Feeling” by UNB, I think the MV was actually shot by a fashion magazine or something. So I think if you look at the set up it makes sense and looks so much like a magazine shoot right? The still photos would have been gorgeous. Same people did the only one video I think. The reason why more choreo isn’t in the video is probably because they were still adjusting the choreo while filming the MV. I remember seeing it in one of their Vlives or something. So they only cut the bits that remained in the final choreo into the MV. Two tidbits in the feeling dance practice. I didn’t notice it for ages as well but lol midway through Feeldog’s shoelaces came undone and he kept trying to tie them between moves. Smooth dude made it so un-noticeable LOL. Those pink pants Kijung was wearing…I think it’s actually one half of Marco’s track suit. Lol seen him wearing the full set with sweatshirt in their reality show. I felt the 2 debut songs were perfect. One dance showpiece that could serve as a nice opener or ender to a concert and only one could also serve as a meaningful ender or encore song. Only one choreo was really beautiful as well. I think UNB distribute the center time and music as a normal group would do like you said. Putting the best fit into the best places. Like feeldog so many singing lines and Marco barely had anything in black heart. Jun is UNB main vocal along with Chan tho btw. Jun was rapping in ukiss but prolly because they already had vocals. The guy just does everything. Jungha, Hangyul and Anne being in black heart is just a great show of the unit being a family tho XD. And they got decent screen time for not even being part of the group XD. Backflip was Hangyul. Tho I have seen in performances where it was just UNB, Marco has done that final backflip before. Unit.t’s debut song and concept didn’t resonate as easily with me. It was a little weird at first but it really grew on me, I still listen to it now….I do think that it’s not the kind of sound that becomes a bit hit easily tho…the choreo was ok for me and the MV felt like had less budget than the boys. To think many from Unit.t struggled with sexy during the unit right? Must have put in so much work. I mean was waaaaay more catchy like you said. Though I think they really rushed it. There are close ups for each member with their names on it…and in one closeup of Suji it actually said “Yebin” and it wasn’t corrected. Fans were upset about it. For I mean, the girls apparently weaved in various easter egg choreo moves from their original group’s songs. I only realized after seeing a fan video pointing it out. I guess they knew this was the last release and wanted to celebrate each other. When both groups were revealed people said UNB had no vocalists but well they had Chan who’s a vocalist to begin with, and then Jun who’s supposed to be a rapper but sings better than many sub-vocals. So UNB had no trouble adapting. Unit.t though, like you said, really didn’t have a strong rapper so it was unfortunately less flexible in terms of their sound… Sooo…in the end I think the 2 groups are fantastic. The producing and promoting was not. Which was so sad. I feel like it allowed the members of the 2 groups to do what they couldn’t do in their original groups which I am sure they loved. The unit is a celebration of camaraderie, family, friendships in my books. It may not have achieved what it set out to do (i.e. bring wild success to the contestants), but I always want to celebrate the good that came out of it 😊. Will always support all the contestants, not just the final groups!

S H

it was, people often asked in the comments on black heart perf videos like...how many people and who???

eve_ss

Great Gatsby or Kingsman would have been great theme for BLACK HEART! Like with the suits and everything! ☺️ For me it suits the song especially the piano beats ❤ But overall, they really did great with it. Just a shame that it was not promoted properly. I miss them so much. 😭 I hope we get a reunion in the future.

S H

Oh I never knew that! I thought it was a reference to Psy's gangnam style dance move. so Nan Malya as in "I'm a horse"? LOL!!!

S H

heheh I thought so too but thinking about doing those flips in fitting pants... they might rip HAHAHAH.

Sophia Paramo

The two groups were on an episode of idol room if you wanted to see more of them. You can see some of your faves Hangyul, Jungha, and Anne there as well. https://dramacool.vc/idol-room-episode-8.html

jeffavenue

this reminds me of hangyul for x1. he didn’t rank as high too but he sure got a lot of center times as well. happy for chan!

mina

tbh the hype for their debut wasn't THAT big cause MIXNINE was airing at the same time and honestly all the MIXNINE drama kinda took all the media attention during their debut time. However UNB did well since most members have a fanbase already but I wouldn't say it was impactful.

Louie Gabiliño

Wow, what a journey. Thanks Jeff!

I have something to say about girls 1. First song and mv that comes to mind when you say isn't Line too sexy is Miss A - hush (that is on the edge) but in general there are many way sexier and more sensual releases 2. I really want you to see Sonamoo now, it's Euijin's group. I am in love with their I knew it mv 3. Second song by the girls really reminds me of Spica's - You don't love me. It has GREAT vocals and those women are just gorgeous. You won't regret if you watch it, i promise!

Layla123

Ooh I was waiting for this since you began reacting to The Unit haha - I can't believe we've already come to the end? Thank you for this series, it was fun to go back and see your perspective on these episodes and on UNB/Uni.T too. Black Heart is one of my favourite kpop songs ever, I'm glad you got a chance to check it out.

Unb in my perception were underrated. Black heart was a masterpiece. I kinda wished they came out with more albums that year.

Cat R

I personally really loved Feeling both song wise and performance wise but I agree the music video wasn't the best and I think for me it was because the music video just had TOO many breaks. I personally didn't like Black Heart song wise so I didn't look into it too much even though the choreo was so crazy lol I think the views for Black Heart has to do with the promotion of UNB rather than the concept. The company that managed them didn't really do much to promote both UNB and Uni.T. It's crazy to me that a lot of the idols that were on The Unit were talking about how they wanted to promote in Korea more since they weren't able to due to their groups lack of popularity yet UNB was HEAVILY promoted in Japan. Either way, this made me miss UNB so much but then again every day is "missing UNB" hours for me ;~; They had a short contract but I really do feel like they could have released at least one more album

Secretninja312

I don't know if both groups were managed by the same company (I know MBK Entertainment managed Uni.T) but both groups weren't promoted very well and Uni.T definitely got the short end of the stick, they only did brief promotions in Korea and I feel like just didn't get as much out of them as we did with UNB. Song wise, I definitely liked UNB's music better and still listen to Only One and Feeling but the MVs for all their songs just weren't great. Like, Feeling and Only One do look very aesthetically pleasing but I just feel like it didn't do the group justice in showcasing who they are. Uni.T's MVs were better but idk, they all just looked cheaply made and rushed. For groups coming off of a survival show, I feel like I expected something grander. Like, if these were MVs from a brand new group who just debuted from an unknown company, I don't think it would've done as well as they did. For Uni.T, I think their 2nd concept definitely suited the overall group better. I think no one really expected them to debut with such a mature/sexy concept. I guess they gave it a shot since majority of the members were in their mid-late 20s and had a mature image. A sexy concept like that isn't that common any more but definitely not new to the Korean public. Some of the biggest groups of the early 2010s had that mature sexy image and it was quite normal to see sexy groups like that back then. But it kind of declined in popularity by 2015 and replaced with the youthful innocent girl groups, which also died out and was replaced with Girl Crush by 2017ish. I just wish we got more than 2 Title tracks and more B-sides out of them. UNB technically lasted longer than Uni.T, they were around for almost 10 months, but seems to have promoted mostly in Japan the later half of their contract time.
