Aubrey was not pleased.

Her mum had to travel for work for an entire week, which had initially delighted the young woman, but that delight had turned to ash in prompt order - her mother had hired a babysitter for the week.

A babysitter! Aubrey didn't need one of those! She was ten times smarter than everyone she knew! It was positively infuriating.

So far, Aubrey's fears had been more than well founded.

"In bed at nine? What the hell..." The angered voice echoed in the kitchen. "Maggie, I haven't had a bedtime since... since..."

The taller woman cut her off. "Think of it as nostalgic then. You know what the means, right?"

Where the hell had Aubrey's mum found this girl? She was probably in college, but Aubrey was certain she'd still run rings around her.

The younger girl ignored Maggie's jab. "But they're doing a horror movie marathon tonight! It starts at eleven!"

"Sorry kiddo, no dice. I don't like scary movies anyway. You can watch the... vod.. or something like that online, right? Do people your age even watch tv anymore?"

Aubrey groaned and stormed away. "Maybe I'm just nostalgic!"

The babysitter watched the retreating figure of her charge, beginning to fire away some texts to her friends. "When you're bigger when you can stay up as long as you like, sweetie.

Aubrey had spent the next hour fuming in her bedroom. That Maggie was such a bitch! She was so old too - she was probably like twenty-five!

The spectacled girl wanted to see that marathon! Her friends online were going to be watching it live! Then, her thoughts turned to Maggie's words, and to the device resting inside Aubrey's sock drawer...

She had told herself she should probably ease off using that thing so much, but she really wanted to watch those movies!

To keep up appearances, Aubrey had garbed herself in her pyjamas, and brushed her teeth earlier. She had idly mentioned mum's liquor cabinet to the babysitter, which seemed to delight the smug woman.

Later, as the hours crept on, Aubrey creaked open the door to the living room. To her delight, she found the college student passed out in front of the television - the sound of some inane reality show filling the room.

With a grin, the dark-haired girl lifted her precious trinket, adjusted some settings and triggered its improbable function.

Aubrey snickered, the light barely rousing the passed-out Maggie. "Watching this might even be better than the movies..."
