Outset Guilds - Lore - Rotgrind PDF (Patreon)

Howdy folks, ToTellStories here to share Outset Guilds! In Outset, guilds are groups of people with common interests who have come together and organized formally: medics, merchants, seamstresses, sanitation workers, farmers, architects, and hundreds more. Guilds have come up a few times already in the main Rotgrind campaign, and I’m very excited to see the players interact with them once they get out of the swamp and return to the city. …The Medics’ Guild should probably be a little concerned by that.

Guilds play a big role in the day-to-day lives of Outset’s people, but it’s important to remember that they’re just one of many power structures within Outset, and that they’re not a monolith. They’re a mix of (somewhat) good and (somewhat) bad people, all working within the city and its rapidly dwindling future. Plus, there are still nobles, politicians, knights, religious leaders, academics, visiting diplomats… plenty of boots to lick, topple, or be crushed under!

I could write dozens of pages on each guild, but a) that’s a lot of layout, and b) not everyone gets as excited by logistics and engineering as I do, so we’ll spare you that for now, lest I write an entire page on magically-assisted pile driving.

The original draft for this release was written all the way back in May of last year. However, there were a few flaws: primarily, that I’m not very good at rules. At all. Thankfully, the ever-patient OnCallGM helped me out by taking my “this would be super useful from a storytelling/societal perspective" ramblings and turning them into functional spells and cantrips and weapons and whatnot. I mostly just wanted to make spell icons, because I LOVE MAKING SPELL ICONS.

We’ve got a few plans for releases centered around specific guilds in the future, so keep an eye out for those. Meanwhile, I’m going to research floor plans of fast food restaurants. …No reason, I swear!
