It's impossible to watch this show and not compare it in some ways to The Last Of Us, but I'll try not to make too many connections. In short this show does my fav things from the Last Of Us (like flashbacks) even moreso imo. The narrative structure and choices are soooo interesting. I never made the connection to Arrival but it's similar on the surface for sure. And I never noticed how much work the sound design was doing on my first go through. The intercut scene with Kirsten performing is so well done, I teared up. A funny thing to note is that the original novel and the production of the show were all done before the COVID-19 pandemic. It's very funny in retrospect how much rings true with masking, isolation, saying goodbye over phone and zoom calls. The hoarding, the confusion. I think the marketing of this show could have been a lot better. The title and cover art dont tell you anything about what it is or how good it could be. A real shame.
