So happy to see Lee Isaac Chung directed this episode his film MINARI from 2020 is one of my favorites you should definitely check that out one day

The Mandalorian aspects of this story were the boring parts. I found the stuff with the scientist far more interesting. I agree with you that first episode was such a bad way to start the season. It put me in such a negative mood about the series and its been working its way out of that pit. The only part of this episode I didn't like was some of the music choices and the train moment. Felt like a needless injection of some action and it felt totally out place with the grounded nature of the story around it. Otherwise very interesting.
