This was writer/director Zach Cregger’s debut. You definitely picked up on the comedy in the movie. Cregger was part the sketch comedy group the Whitest Kids U Know (almost all sketches are on YouTube). I remember watching all those sketches as a kid and I was really excited to see him make his own movie. Loved it!

Airbnb Horror could be a new subgenre! The Rental from 2020 is another example of that, but in a totally different way from Barbarian. Some other 2022 movie suggestions that you maybe want to check out is Watcher (terrifying slow burn-horror), Vengeance (fun ”revenge-comedy-thriller” with BJ Novak) and Dual (weird Black Mirror-style sci-fi with a hilarious Aaron Paul in one of the roles).
