Hyped for The Suicide Squad, it's been my "surprise" hit of last year for sure.

The filmmakers brought all the hate on themselves with their weird statements about "subverting the male gaze" and claiming that "men won't watch female driven movies" . Don't use feminist talking points to sell a superhero movie

Overall I like this movie. It's like junk food packaged really well. It pulled off what Suicide Squad was trying to force itself to be after it was already filmed. The flashbacks and music needle drops actually worked in this one. The fight scenes are really fun and very well shot. Unlike Suicide Squad which is mostly a visual mess. Margot Robbie is very charming as Harley Quinn. I wish this movie did not try to be a Birds of Prey movie but just focused on Harley, introduced Black Canary, and maybe over time build up to a Birds of Prey themed movie in the future. Pretty good, not great.

I enjoyed the irreverence of it and I think that it just has a fun style. There's a lot of sameness in these superhero movies so anytime I get anything even slightly different it gets extra gold stars from me.

So you only dislike it because of what they said? Kind of proves their point about guys like you lol. Considering this came out in February of 2020 with an r rating and a boycott from an incel population (a vocal minority), it did pretty well.

No I also thought the trailers sucked and as a fan of the comics I didn't appreciate the fact that none of the characters looked or acted anything like their comic counterparts, especially Cassandra Cain who was famously a mute in the comic. You're right though, the movie did really well, so well that they cancelled all plans for a sequel before it even left theatres LOL
