The Empty Man Full Length Reaction

That was insane, a rare gem for me, especially as horrors are not usually my cuppa tea. Great find Don Brando.

also im guessing you were referring to Jacobs Ladder when you mentioned similarities to a Tim Robbins movie

Vonnie Stewart

well that was certainly the most bizarre movie i've ever seen

i may be wrong but i think the whole “i grew up in california line is supposed to be comedic because i guess during his time growing up it was during the “hippie” wave and lifestyle and the free thinking party. But i could be far off lmao.

he says “i grew up in san francisco “ which is more the reason to believe that theory lol but that’s just my theory.

I was NOT expecting so much Lovecraft/ cosmic horror vibes in this movie. by the title it almost sounds like a cliche slender man type movie lol... And since I love that kind of cosmic horror storytelling, this movie is almost a 10/10 for me (Also because of the cinematography and that sound editing is amazing here too) This movie should be a classic hahaha I cant believe I never heard of this one!

I'm so happy to hear you loved it as well! Hopefully the director gets more projects (maybe from someone like A24) if this keeps getting more attention.

Definitely lots of strange moments haha. Personally I love movies that are so wildly different and out there!

this was a great watch, Brandon. i would love to see them expand on the prologue. that whole section was really well done.

Glad you enjoyed! And agreed, basically a mini-movie within the movie. After listening to a podcast with the director he said he'd had the idea for the prologue years before making this but found a way to work it into the story once he was on the project.

I hadn't heard of this one, but when you made a post specifically praising it and encouraging us to watch it, I figured I'd give it a shot. Wow, am I glad I did. I thought the plot logic got a little muddy toward the end as it took a wilder turn, but I loved it overall. Excellent film making for the reasons you mentioned (especially the use of lighting for me), and I really respect what the director, writer and everyone else was trying to do with this film by tackling a more complex/abstract plot and themes. If you like these kind of slow burn horror thrillers that rely more on dread/atmosphere than a ton of gore or jump scares, I'd highly recommend Session 9 as an example of excellent film making within a low budget constraint. I know it's been in a few previous polls, but it's probably too unknown to most movie fans to ever get close to winning. Whether for a reaction or not, should definitely check it out some time. :-)

Damn this movie was definitely one of my favorites this year! This has multiple things I love in a movie and going into it blind was the best! The sound design is 10000/10, listening to the movie with great headphones sent chills down my spine SO many times and to me sound in horror is one of the most important things to set the mood and this did it excellently! So good! Thanks Chris and thanks Brandon for choosing this! Never heard of it and it deserves a bigger following for sure!

Yes, Session 9 would be perfect! It's been well over 10 years I've seen it but I remember how uneasy it made me! Another good one with sound and atmosphere creating the horror

I quite enjoyed this one. Imdb is imdb but I feel like the 6.1 rating on there is WAY too low. The movie had some typical low horror budgets moments but I can count them on one hand. Underrated for sure. That prologue was fantastic.

Man, the trailer did this movie no favours. I watched the trailer as soon as you announced you were reacting to The Empty Man. What a cliched bit of fluff. I'm so glad you pointed us to Chris's review. Without it I would have given it a pass. I didn't and was quite impressed.

This was great! Might've missed it if it wasn't for you doing a reaction, so thanks a bunch Brandon.

Paul Tassin

Wow! That was fantastic! Thank you for hipping me to it. I picked it up from Vudu as well.

Yeah, this movie is great. It doesn't quite live up to the fantastic promise of the opening pre credit sequence, but it's genuinly interesting, weird and just downright bizzare at points. I was very happily surprised when I first saw this movie. I Would also recommend the movie "The Blackcoat's Daughter" if you're a fan of this movie. It's not that they're necessarily all that similar, but The Blackcoat's Daughter is also a movie that isn't afraid to take it's time, and builds an impressive(oppressive almost) atmosphere. I have a feeling that most people who like The Empty Man would be appreciative of The Blackcoat's Daughter.
