He wasn't stealing wallets...if I'm not mistaken the wallets they accused him of stealing were the ones that Dennis, Dee, and Frank stole.

that's what I thought at first, but Frank says "we have a bag of wallets too" in response to Mac finding the bag. So I have no clue

Yeah, I always assumed he *was* guilty. For one thing he got 'caught' while in their basement... and they didn't recognize or know him. Why in the world was he there? He never said anything to excuse him being there, either, like 'Hey! What are you doing! I was just down here to " And earlier in the episode they are talking about patrons at their bar having their wallets stolen due to charlie for example being out leprechaun searching and not working. It's funny that Dennis & Dee inadvertently went onto a wallet hunting spree, but it seems really strongly implied to me that the guy in the basement was the wallet thief.

mac says where he found the wallets, by the towels, and none of dennis, dee, or frank react to that expect dee asking why he needed a towel. plus like luke pointed out, people at the bar have their wallet stolen earlier in the episode while dee dennis and frank arent there
