Forrest Gump over 12 Angry Men? What devilry?

Anonymous

This might be the hardest choice so far. But 12 angry men is kind of a must-see. Its the epitome of cinematography and character development. But i understand the votes. Gump and Silence should absolutely be watched (they are both fantastic) but are more commercial and newer. Some people dont want to watch 12 angry men becouse "its an old black and white movie". But its a rite of passage for any movie-buff.

I like all of the movies listed but "12 Angry Men" is a classic that stands above all the rest.

Have you seen Hannibal or red dragon? If you watch silence, may as well watch the 2 sequels both with Anthony Hopkins.

Great list of movies here and I'll be happy with any of them. I went with Silence of the Lambs, because I'd say that had the biggest personal impact on me. Any of these will be good though.

It doesn't look like 12 Angry Men is gonna win the poll this time, but it's 100% a must-see movie. It stars a truly great ensemble cast with Lee J. Cobb, Henry Fonda, Martin Balsam, and Jack Klugman to name a few. It also spawned the 5-decade directing career of Sidney Lumet. He directed stone-cold classics like Dog Day Afternoon, Serpico, and Network (1976). All three are in one way or anther socially concious in a way that is still timelessly relevant to this day, and the first two star Al Pacino in some great roles. And that's not to ignore all of the other genuinely good movies in his filmography that might not be considered straight classics. If I could take 1 filmography with me to a deserted island it'd be Sidney Lumet's. He was groundbreaking from the first movie, and always had something to say. His book "Making Movies" is also filled with great insight that shows he wasn't just "accidentally good" but truly a genius. God, I'm ranting. But seriously, Sidney Lumet is a required watch for film nerds.

Oh WOW - The Last of the Mohicans....That is such a beautiful beautiful movie. I’m so impressed you even have it on here. It’s so outside the scope and awareness of people - especially younger generations. I’m 31 years old and that was the first film that I watched that I vividly remember asking my dad to buy me the cd for the musical score to. It’s breathtakingly beautiful, as is the cinematography.
