So I think we got there in the end. But the I think you were on the money when you talked about the futility of it all. Thats why their initial reactions were so extreme. You have to remember these are people who have literally dedicated their entire lives to alchemy. They are basically scientists. Imagine dedicating your ENTIRE life to something. And then losing EVERYTHING when it doesnt work correctly. Then come to find out, it was impossible in the first place. Everything you invested, everything you lost, was a waste from the start. I definitely think I get that perspective, and why that was the first thing that came to mind. It then took them longer to realize the "good" part which you had been mentioning the whole time.
