Howdy,
I hope you’re staying safe out there. We’ve been working on all kinds of bonus content to help fill up your time. The call-in show from Sunday was so damn good. We will be recording an episode of Holy Boys tonight, about Hillsong and Carl Lentz. The Mike Francesa edition of March Madness with Will Menaker just dropped yesterday. We recorded the first half of Pump Up The Volume last week, which will go up this week as well. We tried a Livestream with District Sentinel on Friday and it fell apart. We are re-evaluating the way we do guest streams so stay tuned. You can watch all our video content right here. The free Quaranzine is also available. I also got a number y’all can text if you’re interested, it’s 614-467-8972, reach out for any reason.
- Senna - One of the best documentaries I have ever seen. It’s up there with King Of Kong. There is such natural pacing to this whole story that it’s hard to keep your jaw from resting on the floor.
Ayrton Senna is truly an inspirational figure and also a reckless individual. Seeing the timeline this guy has in the sport was fascinating. Between the footage of cars screaming down the track at speeds approaching 200 mph and the interpersonal dust-ups behind the scenes, you have an absolutely riveting story.
The backdrop for this is a period covering 87-94 and the amount of footage they have is impressive. Because this story is a multi-million sports industry event they were able to build the narrative of Senna's life with high-quality film and lots of backroom footage. It’s a wonderfully nostalgic ride during a time when a cigarette company could sponsor a car. Revisiting this time period definitely makes me think I was cutting out my dad's Marlboro miles so he could get some official Senna gear.
I don’t think anyone could turn away from this movie or say it’s a waste of time. I highly recommend everyone see it immediately. It’s intense and heart-wrenching and it’s what documentaries should be.
- JQBX - It’s like Turntable.fm. Basically you sign in with Spotify and then you step up to the plate to play songs. I am using it right now to listen to new tunes while writing this post. Access the Street Fight room here.
- The Haunted House: The Secret of the Ghost Ball on Netflix - This is my daughters favorite show right now. It’s spooky and deals with death but it does have a green little goblin to save the day. If you’re into shonen stuff this is well worn territory, each week there is a new haunting, lots of transformations, and usually a touching message of accepting change in life. It’s the same thing that got me into Power Rangers.
- Free concerts from Montreaux Jazz Fest - They just unlocked their entire library for the next 30 days. You have to set up a Qello account, but it works on smart tvs, tablets, and other shit like that. There are some real bangers in here. We have watched Nina Simone from 76 and Coachella 2005 so far. I can't wait to dive back in.
- “Does it follow that I reject all authority? Perish the thought. In the matter of boots, I defer to the authority of the bootmaker;”- Mikhail Bakunin - I saw this on that Rock meme and thought it was pretty damn good. A good thing to keep in mind when Instagram anarchists are demanding the right to spread COVID. It’s weird how ancappy the #anarchy hashtag is on there.
