just so you know hyunjin's critique was that even though he portrayed emotions well, his pronunciation was lacking so it was hard to understand him and therefor feel the emotions of his rap. you seemed to think that jyp criticized his emotions but really it's just his pronunciation and that's why he was putting a pen in his mouth: it makes pronunciating words harder so if you can pronounce them correctly with the pen in your mouth it becomes much easier to do so without it.

In the music industry, the execution of sound is super important- I am not a vocalist- but as a saxophone player, before I even put the instrument to my mouth to play it I go through the music and sound out the rhythms with a technique called "scatting". We basically sound out the execution/pronunciation of the note when we play it before we actually play it. Some notes/syllables can have accents or be short rather than long, or could be vocalized in a different way (ex. da vs dah, done vs dun, ba vs baa- and a TON of others, those are just some I am thinking of on the fly). When the pen is in your mouth, it is keeping your jaw in an embouchure (position) for singing- for singers, moving your jaw too much when you enunciate words is a bad technique (don't quote me on that though). The pen also acts as the back of your teeth, but further back in your mouth. If you can enunciate the words clearly and with the right vocalization with this inhibitor, when you take out the pen- it will sound clearer, and musical "bite" or attack of the notes/syllables is more defined. Basically- it eliminates muddled/fuzzy/stuffy sound. There are also techniques that people use to ADD the muddled sound because some songs like/need that sound to get the emotions through. Most singers call this using a nasal/raspy/throaty tone, while on the instrumentation side, we say things like airy/full/smokey. Hopefully, my nerdy ramble helped! Lol- I like music waaaaayyyyy too much

just a TMI! the group songs rehearsing scene where bangchan got sensitive and looked pissed was all a set up for a prank camera for the september babies’ birthdays!! (jisung felix and seungmin) haha but mnet evil editing cut the part where chan ran out of the room to surprise them with a cake. chan and jisung explained about this during their two kids room together!!
