The Incubus System Chapter 713. The Cause?
Lilieth gazed at me, her forehead scrunched up in confusion. "That's new," she murmured, her voice laced with bewilderment. I turned my attention to her, my own curiosity piqued.
"I know, but can we talk about it another time? We have something more urgent than this," I interjected, my tone urgent. Despite my own inquisitiveness, there was something else that needed our immediate attention.
Lilieth let out a sigh and pulled her face away from mine. I could sense her disappointment at not being able to further explore the strange occurrence, but she didn't press the matter. "Let me guess, did you want to ask the cause of that massive crack?" she queried, her voice tinged with amusement.
I nodded, confirming her suspicions.
"It was Zatan and Beel doing," Lilieth revealed.
Lilieth flicked her finger with an almost imperceptible movement. A chair moved on its own. I watched it slowly slide away from its original position, drawn by the invisible force of her telekinesis.
As the chair came to a stop in front of me, Lilieth gracefully sat down and crossed her legs, her demeanor indicating that this was going to be a long conversation. The faint sound of her high heels clicking against the floor filled the air as she adjusted herself on the chair.
Due to her statement, anxiety rippled through me like an electric current, the tension palpable on my face. My voice filled with worry. "Have you caught them yet?" I asked, my eyes searching hers for any sign of hope. But the answer I received was not what I had hoped for.
"Unfortunately, not yet," she responded, disappointment etched on her features. Despite the setback, her voice held a firmness that gave me a glimmer of hope. "But we managed to find their trail. It's the same as you said, it seems they are fighting each other to upset the border’s energy balance," she explained, her words laced with a sense of urgency.
My brow furrowed as I tried to make sense of what she was saying. "Do you already know the location?" I probed further, desperate for any information that could lead us closer to them.
"We have. But when we arrived, it was too late. They are gone," she admitted, her head shaking in disappointment. My heart sank at the news, but there was a glimmer of hope as she continued. "Fortunately, the crack appeared elsewhere, not in the same place. So, they should still be here," she added, a faint trace of optimism in her voice.
I paused for a moment, my mind racing with the implications of what she had just told me. "So... simply have they found a way to create the crack? They just need something to detect where the crack opens?" I concluded, my voice trailing off as I tried to process the information.
Lilieth nodded gravely. "Yes. And if they can open that massive crack, searching for the location is easy. They can simply follow where the wild demons go," she added, her voice tinged with a sense of urgency.
A knot formed in my stomach as I realized the gravity of the situation. It would mean that they were only one step away from entering the human world, and the consequences would be catastrophic.
"That's bad..." I muttered, my mind racing with the implications of what Lilieth had just revealed.
"Meanwhile, we are trying to find them. Those demon lords should be recuperating their energy,” she turned to Lord Damon, who had been sleeping soundly. “They are in their weak state, and they are not much different from Lord Damon. I can only hope we can find them," she said, her voice filled with hope.
I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down as Lilieth delivered the news. My heart was pounding so fast that I could feel it against my chest, and the tension was evident on my face. I flicked my gaze at Lord Damon, hoping that he would show some sign of improvement, but he remained motionless. It was frustrating to see him like this, helpless and vulnerable.
"Please tell me if you need help," I said in a firm tone, hoping that there was something I could do to alleviate all of this. But Lilieth shook her head from side to side, her expression grave.
"There's nothing you can do," she said. "The only thing you can do is wait for those two on the other side."
I let out a sigh, feeling powerless.
"Right," I said with a nod, trying to mask my disappointment.
"Also… Looks like you should thank your two queens," Lilieth said, her tone slightly softer. "I must admit they helped a lot. Especially Nefaris. I'm surprised she took the initiative to protect the capital. You know how lazy she was, right, but this time, she is very different."
I raised an eyebrow in surprise. Nefaris lacked interest in the affairs of the state. It was hard to imagine her taking any initiative.
"I will make sure she gets her favorite blood tonight," I assured Lilieth, grateful for the information. It was rare for her to compliment anyone, let alone the queens.
"Okay." Lilieth stood up from her seat, her long purple hair swaying behind her. "I will tell her that you are here. Just don't forget to rest after this and do it in your room. You know she can't enter this room, right?" she reminded me.
I nodded, remembering this room protection. Only those who were invited could enter this room, and even then, they had to be accompanied by one of us. It was a sanctuary of sorts, a place where Lord Damon could be safe from prying eyes and ears.
"Yes," I replied.
“I will excuse myself then,” she said as she used her teleportation skill.
Soon, a dark aura began to engulf her body, and then in a blink of an eye, she was gone. The air around me seemed to ripple as she teleported away, leaving me in the room.
