Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 139. Euphorion's History Book I
After lunch was over, according to what he had planned he went to his chamber to do some paperwork before he slept for a while since he couldn't hold back his sleepiness anymore.
While Rose attended several invitations as usual. The invitations had gotten more intense these days since many nobles took Rose's presence as an opportunity to undermine her reputation or find out what the king liked about her. They could turn a small mistake into an interesting conversation since that was what they wanted. But Rose hardly made any mistakes. Or if she did, her mistakes were so common and trivial that a lot of nobles often do so.
But from what they saw, they concluded that the king saw their marriage for political purposes between the two kingdoms and her abilities were very useful for Euphorion's military power. The only thing that sets her apart was that Rose liked to move independently in some cases. But she never broke the rules and his orders.
The dim light of sunlight infiltrated between the king's chamber's curtain. It was almost dusk when Angel woke up, indicating he was overslept since he should have only slept for an hour. But he ended up sleeping for three whole hours.
Startled, he snapped his eyes and jumped out of the bed. Quickly, he went to his desk to finish his work for the day. But instead of a pile of documents, he found a note that said to let Claire and Cley handle the work. From the writing style, he was sure it was from Rose. In addition, it also said that she had made a herbal drink for him and she placed it on the side of the bed.
Angel turned to the side of the bed and found a glass there. He didn't notice when he woke up since he was too panicked.
A smile developed on his lips.
"Thank you..." he whispered. Somehow this little attention meant so much to him.
He went near the bed and drank the half-cold herbal drink. The taste was a little bitter. The earthy and herbal smell pierced his nose. But he knew some ingredients from the smell.
After finishing everything, he could feel the warmth embracing his body and the energy that dispels his drowsiness. So instead of wasting it, he decided to go to the library and look for the history book that Lucian talked about. He immediately found it on the deepest shelf in the library. It was not hard to find since they put it in a special box that separated it from the rest.
Ignoring the dinner time, he opened it and read it exactly from the seat where he had been hiding in that place five years ago. It brought back the memory of when he infiltrated this palace to overthrow the late king Xenos.
After opening the well-made engraving box, he took out the book carefully. It was a thick book. The leather cover was filled with dust even though there was a box covering it. The box itself was pretty clean since the servants always clean this place once a month or two.
Angel opened the book carefully. Some papers were too fragile so he was afraid to damage them. Some of the writing was also a little faded. Luckily he could read it just fine. The slightly dim lighting hindered him, yet he continued to read out his curiosity. Especially the part when the ancient dark king died.
Unlike what he had learned in Asteria, as Lucian said, the book told everything in detail. How the dark king died, what caused it and how his kingdom fell. Somehow it made him shiver in horror as soon as he realized the dark king's power and how he killed his victims were similar. No wonder his family was afraid of him.
As for Prince Lucian, he didn't mention it before since his power just developed in recent years. Precisely after he overthrew King Xenos. His dark power wasn't this intense before.
