Chapter 55. The Auction Place
Lilieth's PoV
I hid in a dark alley in Nighthallow City. We arrived in this city a few hours ago and immediately scattered to find out the black market auction's location. It has already been three hours and I am waiting for Andrew and Kitty to meet at our appointed place.
Two shadows moved fast approaching me.
"Did you find it?" I asked.
Andrew and Kitty in black robes shook their heads.
I clicked my tongue in annoyance. We've been searching through this city and investigating some suspicious places, but in vain. In contrast to yesterday Vance already knew the underground society's location so I could find it easily. While this auction's location is hidden in secret and none of us knows about it. I had already asked Vance and Diorix.m, but they did not know the auction's location. What they know is that this auction is held every year with different locations and times.
'I need more information. Should I look for it in the bar? '
Honestly, I want to avoid that and would rather seek information without asking too many questions to avoid suspicion. But today is only my chance, I don't want to wait until tomorrow to get the book. My presence at the auction will only attract the other's attention.
I place one of my hands on my chin and sink into my mind for a while to look for another way but it seems like I have no other choice. Searching it randomly with only depend on luck is a waste of time.
"What are your next plans?" Kitty asked, breaking the silence.
"We're going to look for information from bars around here." I lowered my hands and turned my gaze to them.
"We will split into two teams. Andrew goes with Kitty and I will go alone."
"You're alone?" Andrew asked.
"It's okay, I'm used to it." As a succubus I can find information easily in bars, but different from Andrew. Although he can fight well and is trained as a good killer, he is too innocent to enter a bar on his own. I do not know what he will do there, maybe he will end up not bringing other women like yesterday.
I turned my gaze to Kitty.
"Help me to keep him well, ok?" I said while giving her a wink.
Kitty understood my gesture.
"Leave it to me."
"We will meet here in two hours," I instructed.
They nodded and were about to move, but suddenly I could feel a great magic power.
"Wait!" I hold them.
They stopped. Seeing the sudden change of my expression that turns serious they could guess that something was wrong.
"What's wrong?"
I raised my hands asking them to be quiet, while I closed my eyes, felt the flow of magic power around me, concentrating on finding the origin of that power.
'The location is not far from here ...'
I continued to focus on my concentration, trying to find out the owner of that power. My heart skipped a beat as my brain recalled the silver-haired man who attacked us yesterday and the one who took Lord Damon's power. Am I too late? Did they have already made their move?
But after a while, I was able to make sure this person wasn't one of them. I opened my eyes.
"Looks like I know where the auction is."

After moving swiftly while hiding between buildings, we arrived at a dark mansion. Even though I'm not sure this is the auction place, this is the only clue we have. After all, doesn't that mysterious book alone can attract powerful people's attention?
We ducked down between bushes, peering into the mansion's situation before breaking in.
"Weird. Why aren't there any guards?" whispered Andrew.
"Is their place hidden like the underground society?" whispered Kitty.
"I don't think so ..." I said. I was sure the mansion had just been attacked since I could smell the pungent scent of blood from inside the mansion. The smell also prevented me from finding out who the owner of that power was.
"Should we move now?" Kitty asked.
"No, I want to check it first." I must not act rashly, this could be a trap.
"Andrew, can you check inside the mansion through your tentacles?"
"Okay."
"Check it as far as you can," I said.
Andrew nodded. Then he placed his hands on the ground as his fingers extended and turned into tentacles that crept in silence, slipping into the mansion. He closed his eyes while feeling what he touched through his tentacles. A few minutes later he began to frown and from his expression, I knew he was confused.
"What happened?" I asked.
Andrew did not answer, the wrinkles on his forehead were getting worse. A minute later, he flinched in pain and pulled his tentacles out of there. I can see one of his tentacles was cut off. It seems that is the reason why he was in pain earlier.
"What happened?" I asked once more.
"Corpses ... human corpses are everywhere and they all died with very serious injuries."
I was not surprised by his words since I already knew it by the scent.
"But all of them still move like humans, even one of them managed to detect my tentacles and attack it," he continued.
"Undead? Why are they moving in the middle of a city like this?" said Kitty.
I fell silent again and deep in thought. Undead is rarely moving in the middle of the city, usually, they only move in the old cemetery that has strong dark power. The power entered the corpses and raised them from the grave to haunt the living. But of course, that situation is very rare unless triggered by something, usually because of a strong grudge from one of the spirits that confined there.
It was strange if the undead could be in the middle of town without any attack report from the gatekeeper and there is only one possible answer to this question.
"Necromancer ..." I murmured. Only necromancers can play with the dead and make them obey their commands.
They turned their gaze to me waiting for me to explain further.
"It is possible that the necromancer killed the people there and resurrected them. It seems that his purpose is the same as us," I continued. I looked suspiciously at the mansion in front of me. Another question occurs to me if he had managed to take the book why did he still stay there? Isn't it better if he escapes as soon as possible? Unless... he waits for something.
"I'll turn his attention at me while both of you sneak in to steal the book," I said.
"Why don't you let me distract him?" Andrew asked.
"To kill the undead you have to destroy the dark power that controls them. You are not a mage, you cannot do it."
"Tsk!" Andrew clicked his tongue and looked annoyed. Even though he already has Kitty, it seems like his protective nature at me hasn't changed.
"Be careful. That book could be our best solution," I warned them.
I stood up from the bushes, covering my head with my hood and walked toward the gate at a leisurely pace. Unlike yesterday, at least I know who I am going to face right now and I am quite interested in him. A necromancer can raise the undead, doesn't that mean if I can make him obey me I can order him to create an undead army for me? That way I can strengthen Vance's mansion defence and also prepare troops for revenge.
'If you expect me to come, then I will come. I will turn you into my servant. '
