Having an itch always sucked, especially when it was somewhere that was hard to reach, such as that particular spot on your back. However, Jake would argue that one of the worst places to have a serious itch was inside your damn eyeballs.

After getting the notification, Jake’s eyes subtly began changing, and with that came the intense itching. It made him want to scratch his own eyes out, but he resisted the urge as seconds that felt like minutes slowly passed. He had closed his eyes the second the change began to happen as his vision completely distorted during the restructuring. He faintly felt every part of his two eyeballs being remade, making him more sure than ever that should anyone ever manage to kill him, they would get some dope eyes as drops, ones that were potentially even at mythical rarity now.

Of course, Jake didn’t have any plans of dying, but occupying his mind with weird thoughts was the best thing he could do to distract himself from clawing out his own eyes. Luckily, the process was soon complete, and Jake opened his eyes again and…

Well, he couldn’t really tell anything had happened. It was not that surprising, considering he hadn’t actively aimed to make his eyesight better, and as he didn’t have any other people to look at, he couldn’t test the ability to look at other people’s souls.

With the evolution of his eyes completely done, he could also finally turn his attention to the skill upgrade itself. Jake stared at the skill for a while but didn’t get longer than the name alone before he had something he bit onto. Primal Gaze. Jake hadn’t expected the skill to necessarily become named “Gaze of the Primal Hunter,” but he sure hadn’t expected it to be Primal Gaze either. What did that even mean?

Clearly, it meant that ”primal” concepts had been infused into the skill, but not to the degree of turning it into a Primal Hunter skill. It felt more like a halfway point before becoming a true Legacy skill for him, and if that was true, wasn’t it still kind of awesome?

Because that would indicate that when he upgraded it to a true Primal Hunter skill, it would be one above mythical rarity.

Another possible part of the explanation why it wasn’t “of the Primal Hunter” was due to the inherent Records of the “of the Apex Hunter” concept being too powerful. Jake was ultimately still only a C-grade, and unless he did something unique to himself, it was difficult to make a skill that could truly be called part of his own budding Legacy, especially if it was built on top of a legendary skill.

Something like the Core Manipulation skill was something unique that relied on Jake’s unique concepts, so it was easy to make the vast majority of the Records in the skill belong wholly to Jake. The same was true with the Moment and Eternal Shadow skills that both came to be due to his Bloodline more or less directly getting involved.

Primal Gaze, on the other hand, was a true mix. It wasn’t truly something Jake had made himself but was instead only filled with Records that very closely aligned with his Bloodline and who he was. Jake did have full confidence that one day it would become a Legacy skill, but for now, he wasn’t going to complain about what he had gotten.

As a final note, the skill did also at least include mentions of who he was, with the nice little sentence: “May your gaze inspire primal fear in all who dare impede the Path of the Primal Hunter.” This pretty much served as confirmation that the skill was well on its way to becoming a Legacy skill.

Now, the actual upgrade to the skill was in the form of pure additions rather than any major changes. It was just Jake adding on “primal” aspects to the existing Gaze of the Apex Hunter, upgrading it without changing any of the fundamentals.

The new things added were the ability to directly clash his soul with others, the ability to see souls for weaknesses, and then an unexpected effect to inspire fear in targets he showed hostility toward? That last part of the skill definitely wasn’t something he had intended to add or even expected, but something that seemed to have snuck in with all the other stuff.

These changes to the skill meant that Jake could now also freeze the energies of people. At least, he instinctively felt so. However, there was one more important aspect of this upgrade to consider:

He could still use only the old version of Gaze. The one where people could still control their energies. He didn’t have to use the Fear Gaze aspect if he didn’t want to, which opened quite a few doors. First of all, it would allow him to use it on targets he didn’t wanna risk a direct soul clash against, and secondly, it meant he could use it strategically. What if he used regular Gaze in a fight against someone a time or two, making them adapt by keeping constant energy barriers ready, only for him to unleash a Fear Gaze for the finishing blow? Yeah, that could definitely be a thing.

Jake kept considering the potential use cases of his skill for a while longer before he continued to practice some other stuff. He really felt like he had to do a lot of catch-up after having spent so long as a level 0 in the Colosseum of Mortals, and if the dungeon hadn’t taken his items, he would probably have been busy doing alchemy by now.

Days passed before something finally happened in this particular story, also reminding him he was still inside the Test of Character Challenge Dungeon. Jake, with his Sphere of Perception now working properly, had early warning if anyone ever approached, and on that day, he saw someone going to the cell he was in.

Dispelling his stable barrier and lying down on the floor, Jake quickly relinquished control as his character returned to being an unconscious guy without any resources. A few guards arrived shortly after and didn’t notice anything wrong as they hoisted up the unconscious guy and dragged him away.

At this point, Jake was back to just being a spectator. He had been in the isolation cell for about ten days, and during this time, no one had come by to even check on him, though the magic circle meant to keep him trapped did have the ability to detect if anyone exited it. Considering the character was meant to be unconscious for all this time, he didn’t seem to have been much affected by Jake’s actions either, so Jake hoped he hadn’t messed up this storyline too much.

The guy was dragged to what looked like a temporary holding cell, where a healer came by and made sure he was awake and lucid. Once it was confirmed the character was awake – and very distressed – he was dragged off again toward a large building Jake quickly came to learn was a courthouse of sorts.

From there, the trial began. Jake felt like he was in some crime show as both sides presented evidence, with Jake’s character’s defense being that he had no recollection of anything he was accused of and that he had potentially been mind controlled or at least messed with by some soul mage. Pretty much, they were just trying to sow doubt.

Meanwhile, the prosecution said that the guy was just lying because he had gotten caught. The evidence he had committed the crime was indisputable, so one would think they had an easy case considering there was a damn recording, but it appeared that the laws of the world in this story required them to prove a motive before he could be judged guilty. That he was some maniac who just liked killing was a legitimate claim, but the problem was that Jake’s character seemed genuinely heartbroken when he heard what he had done when he – allegedly – wasn’t in control of his body.

Both sides argued, and during all this time, Jake wondered if there really wasn’t anyone with a truth-telling skill like Silas anywhere. Jake tended to be pretty good at discerning if people were telling the truth, but with the character he was inhabiting, he genuinely had no idea.

Anyway, both sides had a hard time winning the case, and investigations continued as Jake spent several days being dragged in and out of a courtroom that looked very much like it could have come from Earth.

As time dragged out, the investigations into whether the guy had somehow been controlled really got momentum, which was when a change happened.

That night, while Jake was in a temporary holding cell, the truth was revealed. One of the guards approached the cell, and Jake instantly knew something was off. The guard looked like the regular guard, but Jake felt like he wasn’t… in fact, he reminded him of a certain someone.

Eversmile?

That’s right, the character Jake inhabited was innocent, and in reality, a shapeshifter had taken his form and killed a bunch of people! What’s more, the shapeshifter had done all this as a job for a powerful local bigshot to get rid of one particular person in the crowd slaughtered.

Meanwhile, Jake’s character was just the fall guy and had been put in a trance of sorts at home, where he just slept for a week straight while experiencing weird dreams that made him believe he could have been the killer.

Seeing as the investigation had gone on for too long, the bigshot decided that assassinating Jake’s character and making it look like a suicide due to guilt would be for the best, which was why the shapeshifter had come that day.

As for how Jake learned all this? Well, it turns out his new Primal Gaze’s fear function was quite effective at making others figuratively shit their pants and spill everything once he looked at them in a mean way. After a few threats where Jake acted like he was a being that had taken over the guy’s body – which technically wasn’t untrue – the shapeshifter turned on the bigshot, and from there, the rest of the story went as one would have expected. The bigshot was found out to be the real culprit, Jake’s character was released, and justice was served as everyone lived happily ever after.

At least that is what one would have expected, but there was more corruption and more shapeshifters around who also worked for this bigshot. Anyway, to make a long story short, Jake ended up gathering up a crowd of around two dozen shapeshifters and kindly threatened them with very painful deaths. It was only after that things ended in a satisfactory way, though it did also include Jake dismantling several institutions in the judicial system. So, yeah, things maybe got a bit out of hand.

So, when Jake said he believed it was satisfactory, that was only according to his own beliefs, where he tended to like good endings in stories, but if it was a good conclusion to the story from the Test of Character Challenge Dungeon’s point of view? Who the fuck knows!

By now, Jake had pretty much resigned himself to getting a shit evaluation for doing this Challenge Dungeon. The advice he had gotten from both Villy and the Wyrmgod didn’t really help him much, as both just boiled down to being himself… but hey, maybe that actually meant he was doing super well and was on his way to the best evaluation ever? When you didn’t know the criteria you were being measured by, it was pretty damn hard to tell.

Oh well, all he could do was continue as he went on to the next story… which was pretty much just a reskinned trolley problem. Yeah, he wasn’t a big fan, but hey, maybe the audience watching him do these stories enjoyed the show?

--

This is… getting out of hand.

Vilastromoz looked around the room, which had quite a few new additions since Jake completed the first Challenge Dungeon. The first of which was naturally the most expected of the bunch: Valdemar. Within a day of getting the information package, he had popped in with a huge grin on his face as he wanted to see the one who had beaten his image in the Colosseum of Mortals.

Only a few days later, the second person the Viper had kind of expected to come did. He was naturally speaking of Artemis. However, one of the reasons he had only kind of expected it was due to who and what she was.

For someone like Valdemar to show up to Nevermore and want a personal meeting and hang out with the Wyrmgod was entirely what one could expect. However, for someone like Artemis, she simply didn’t have the status to do something like that.

Moreover, Valdemar, the Viper, and the Wyrmgod were naturally all Primordials, and as a non-pinnacle god, simply being in their presence could be quite unsettling. So, she had made a wise decision and invited someone along who did have the status required: Nature’s Attendant.

That is how they, less than a week after Jake completed the Challenge Dungeon, ended up doubling the number of people sitting within what was effectively a large living room, watching recordings and livestreams of different mortals currently doing Nevermore.

It had to be noted that the Wyrmgod didn’t simply stream everything to everyone in the room. The only reason the Viper was allowed to see Jake was because he was his Chosen, meaning the three newcomers were not offered this privilege despite Valdemar’s loud complaints. Complaints primarily aimed at Vilastromoz, who was the one that was supposed to give permission, but after a while of the Viper refusing, Valdemar just settled with watching some of the young prospects from Valhal instead.

To avoid things getting too annoying, Vilastromoz did say he would share if something exciting happened on Jake’s side, but honestly, they weren’t missing much with the Test of Character dungeon. Not that it wasn’t fun to see Jake trying to figure out what he was supposed to do, but the Viper believed he was quite unique in his enjoyment of that.

Artemis and Nature’s Attendant eventually settled on watching his granddaughter. The hunter god was quite subdued in the room, contrary to her demeanor in the Colosseum, but the Viper couldn’t blame her. In fact, it was pretty odd she was even allowed to be in the room, considering the others there. Valdemar and the Viper being capable of existing in the same room without showing hostility toward one another didn’t mesh well with the official conflict between their two factions, after all, so for Artemis to be there was quite a risk.

Alas, the Wyrmgod allowed her to stay, Vilastromoz not doubting for a second that Minaga had something to do with it. At least the Unique Lifeform seemed to enjoy teasing her quite a bit as he showed her some of his own recordings from when Jake did his labyrinth.

Around a month passed like this until suddenly, two additions he had not expected arrived together. In retrospect, he probably shouldn’t have been surprised, as a gathering of three Primordials and Nature’s Attendant was already considered rather extraordinary, and these two had the pulse on the happenings of the multiverse and wouldn’t miss a happening like this.

And that’s how the Viper chilling with the Wyrmgod to see Jake’s antics turned into a meeting between five Primordials, with potentially more apex beings of the multiverse yet to arrive as they noticed the continued confluence of powerful beings in one place.

Lol what a great time to check for a chappy. Beat the notification

Rubeno

I like that Jake as a human will drop... Something as he dies. It always annoyed me in litrpgs and xanxias how beasts were walking treasure hoards of valuable organs yet humans stronger at the same level had bodies that were worthless which is ridiculous. When there is power to gain there will be always entities finding use even of body of high level combatant.

Rubeno

Jake does have ability to withstand godly presences but was it ever mentioned that he has strong soul? If yes, then what part of his bloodline making his soul strong? I can't remember exactly what made Jake confident that he will win contest of souls with his enemies when he was creating Fear Gaze.

Den

I was staring at my phone muttering "where is my chapter" when the notification popped up. This is the best way to spend my lunch break!

Hayden Leech

The in nevermore stuff is alright… but the outside-nevermore content is just *chefs kiss*

Shadowessence

Any bets on the others? I'm betting umbra 100%

Lawrence Dillon

Hmm aeon and stormild are my guesses for the two newer additions

Rischirobi

Thank you for the chapter

bauspar

it was mentioned first as he made his eternal shadow skill i guess??

John Balman

Only Jake can be such a cause of chaos without even trying or meanin to. Probably why him and Villy get along so well

Rischirobi

At least the Unique Lifeform seemed to annoy teasing her.... I think It should be enjoy teasing her.

bauspar

yeah tbo i hope that the nevermore arc is ending soon

Justus Saucedo

Is it Eversmile and The holy Mother? I know there are other primordials but those are the only two I can think of who might show up. Stormmild probably wouldn't care. The other guy (can't remember name) is the same way.

Rubeno

You are right. I remember now Jake dominating Curse thanks to his strong soul but why does he have strong soul? Is it just default state of his bloodline to have strong one? And what does properties his soul had? I mean, as mentioned before Jake can resist any presence but his soul business is kind of sketchy. Once he has soul dominated by the likes like Fallen King and another time his soul is strong enough to withstand planetary level curse. It leaves me confused how strong Jakes soul. Is.

Jana

Umbra is not a Primordial, but i agree if you ment that she is going to join sometime along the way.

Joseph Irdanto

Whos the other two primo? Aeon Clock and Eversmile?

CinnamonHawk263

I believe it was said in a much earlier chapter that if he dies his eyes could be harvested as an alchemical ingredient.

JJB4345_80_815

Yes! God TV! Thanks for the chappy!

john henderson

Hoping the birdy is one of the two primordials, and maybe aeon clock? Would make sense, as one is Mr. Sandman and the other is sort of an ancestor to elementals. Beyond just that, they both have a direct investment in the crew this time around.

Rubeno

You are right. I remember passage like it in earlier chaps.

Naotsugu97

I foresee shenanigans! TFTC.

Mat

When the Viper added a drop of his blood in the palate ritual

Shadowessence

I know she is not a primordial, but im betting she is showing up. Villas seems to be cool with her

john henderson

Would be problematic, since Villy and Valdemar are supposed to be at odds, easy to convince lesser gods to keep their yaps shut about that to Yip, not so easy to convince primordials. Though unsure on Eversmile, since as always his motives and methods are intentionally vague.

Tom

Isn’t the Truesoul mostly just records? And the records of his Bloodline are implied to be the same quality as a Primordials, he’s just lacking in quantity which will be fixed with Grades

mrthorwahl

That would be my guess also. I dont think Stormild can be assed to focus her attention enough to show up.

Captain Nuclear

Aw come on Villy, let Artmemis Perv- I mean, watch. Over Jake. Platonically.

Jana

Agreed. Both have some personal stakes in Jakes team which makes them prime candidates, if anything I would replace stormild with the Daofather. Stormild is unpredictable at best and the Daofather has a connection via Eron but he is still behind on my list.

Tyler S.

It would be interesting for Eversmile to be there, would mean lots for the upcoming war

Zizawah

My bet is in Dao Lord and Aeon Clok. But mentioning of the two having a pulse on what’s going on both seemed unlikely. Holy mother and Stormild more likely?

john henderson

I feel like it sort of follows logic, if you think of natural treasures as producers, monsters as primary consumers, and humans as secondary consumers. Like, the way most of the humans in those stories get their powers is through absorbing power from monsters/natural treasures, would you want to fight the person to get their power, or fight the monster they were able to defeat? And if you were able to confidently defeat them, it probably means whatever power they had was already below what you would want anyways. I do agree though its nice how much this story balances humans and monster races.

Pablo Barbatto

I am guessing the couple of primodials are Aeon and strombird? Or eversmile?

Hayden Leech

Suprised umbra didn’t show haha

Jana

One day when all are gathered Villy will have to tell everyone to get their hands of his chosen and minaga will point out that there is a lot more to “get off his chosen” when it comes to a certain female god.

Tyler S.

I may have been more exited for expansion of secondary characters in and out of Nevermore

Hayden Leech

I recall lots of xianxia stories where they talk about grinding people up into pills tho.

Aaron Schwartz

So who else is showing up? I don’t think it’ll be eversmile because no one likes him, and William has already gone through nevermore as a c grade… it can’t be umbra because she’s not a primordial. I don’t think it’ll be stormild, simply because I don’t think she enjoys compressing her interstellar sized true form into an avatar. I’m guessing the holy mother shows up to cheer on jacob and scope out all of her oracle’s earth buddies, And Yggdrasil shows up because her homeboy nature’s attendant is there.

Justus Saucedo

I think most primordial are aware. It's been tease that something is going on with them behind the scenes. I'm of the opinion that Eversmile is only helping Yip cause villy has a plan and made him. I think villy called in his favor with Eversmile, and this is gonna be one big table flip when they have thier big bad fight.

Justus Saucedo

Maybe Aeon, but I don't think the Dao lord is a primordial, and the 2 new comers are both primordials

Ty Cooper

The Holy Mother and Eversmile? My guesses at least.

Tyler S.

It hasnt been explicitly stated but with events like the creation of Eternal hunger and some later conversations with Villy his soul has been shown to be large and his realization that he is a (higher)Human his body hasnt matured into his adolescent soul/bloodline. This means his spiritual soul/records are greater then his current C grade body. I think itll be at A grade he matures with Silphy

Hayden Leech

I hope it’s two primordial see haven’t seen much of. Like immortau. Or the holy mother. Very interesting characters those.

Eiv

Excited for the next chapters!! I am already giggling on what could happen 😂😂😂

Aaron Schwartz

I’m still not sure it’ll be eversmile… then again if 5 primos are in one place, and that place is never more, it’ll probably make karma go apeshit… so he’ll probably show up

Zizawah

https://www.patreon.com/posts/side-story-2-44437160 The benevolent monk Jake fought is an image of Samsara Dao Lord, the primordial. Not sure if he keeps a pulse on what's going on but if he does, he seems more likely to have come.

Rubeno

@hayden, True albeit those methods are often "evil" in a way where they specifically turn humans into pills. It's not like human by themselves can be harvested for distinct body parts for ex. Let's say armors or weapons despite high quality of the body

Michael Fannon

I have the feeling that Valdemar is the type of guy that needs his wife to be constantly riding herd on him to prevent some sort of disaster. Like how during reviewing the recordings of his people, he might see a certain runemaiden that he has blessed hook up with Jake for months and mention how proud he is. In front of Artemis. And the rest of the peak gods as they show up for the viewing party. Seriously, I half expect Gudrun to be in a panic trying to find out where he is.

Craig

I simply love this ending. Laughed so hard because we knew it would be true.

Rubeno

@henderson, The way I see it is like that. If you are made powerful by the System or cultivation your remains will be of high value that somebody definitely will be able to turn into power.

Craig

Of course apex beings all turn up and don't want to miss out. Unknowingly acting like mortal children

Darnell Maxwell

My bet is the Blightfather. The entire reason he taught Casper was because he sensed something crazy was happening with Earth's tutorial so he wanted someone on the planet to keep him informed. So he has precedent of keeping his finger on the pulse. And Umbra who I'm surprised isn't here already. She's been keeping tabs on Jake since the tutorial and has even made him her chosen in an alternate timeline. Also I keep forgetting that Primordials are intimidating to other gods. Especially with Minaga chilling next to two like it's no big deal. I wonder if the Viper will show everyone when something cool happens to Jake or just Valdemar?

PatienceHoney

I didn't think that Aeon would be considered to have his "pulse on the happenings of the multiverse." Aren't there two primordials (husband and wife team maybe?) known for knowing what is going on and being up in everyone's business?

Aaron Schwartz

No umbra is not a primo from universe 1. I forget the exact uni she’s from, but it’s one of the first 5.

Michael Fannon

Just had a thought. Are Artemis and Nature's attendent related? He is there escorting her, so it could be there is a personal relationship here. Like an apprentice. Or former blessed. Or maybe even family. Like a granddaughter.

Rubeno

Thanks guys. You are right. Now I remembered about Jakes soul being described as high quality but with not enough quantity of records.

Craig

I think they'll be a riot if Jake does something very interesting and Villy doesn't share. I bet even he would feel obliged in not pissing of his peers who all came to see jake..

Micah Molina

The "pulse on the happenings" could reference to Eversmile and Aeon. Pulse like a ticking clock and Eversmile always being aware of karma confluence. But ultimately, it reads like news or gossip to me. So I could totally see The Holy Mother and the Blightfather showing up together. Churches are highly sociable and know the gossip. The Blightfather would be in the habit of acting similarly since he has to keep up with his competition. This also exemplifies the tutorial. Both of them were involved simply because they knew Eversmile had a project in William. The Mother to keep an eye on things and the Father to lend a helping hand. Heck, he even blessed Casper just to continue entangle himself in the web of karma toward Jake.

Craig

Umbra, Blightfather, Aeon? Surely that last sentence refers to Aeon

Lewke

Blight Father & Holy Mother both showing up would be hilarious and would cause things to really get out of hand!

greg belokopitsky

I hope it's the Star siezing titan and aeon clock. Both of them need to get out of the smith and clock shop and hang with the crew. Maybe the titan will make jake a bow 🙇‍♂️ !

Michael Fannon

Going to be a viewing party with most of the primordials and peak gods before the challenge dungeons end. Can't wait for the betting.

Pablo Barbatto

I belive his strong soul is dependent on true to yourself and being confident with your decision. The soul also got strengthen by all the unique trial and tribulations that he has experienced so far.

Rubeno

Soul and mental magic are different though. Soul is just container. That being said answer below I believe is correct.

Michael Fannon

Umbra isn't a primordial, though she is probably going to show up sooner or later. My bet is Aeon Clok and Eversmile. The rest will show up eventually.

Vyle

Stormild is an elemental I don't think she is someone who has " a pulse on the happenings of the universe". I don't think she really pays attention. I don't think the Daofather is likely either. He has been described as a bit of a recluse. At least he doesn't typically participate in the happenings of the multiverse often. He does seem to have an interest in Jake though.

Michael Fannon

The only potential husband and wife in the primordials are the blightfather and the holy mother. Which is probably the multiverse's most disfunction marriage.

Beardo

Vili needs to hustle everyone for cash to order pizza and beers, just to mess with them

Iam PANKANK

to be fair I think its pretty well inferred that even if The Holy Mother and The Blightfather's faction are at war they personally don't fight for the same Reason that the Primordials showed up to shut Villy down when he went off the reservation. I think its also implied that they get along in a different sides of the political spectrum family way(the primordials).

Bladewing

more like colleagues. it was stated Artemis occasionally works together with Yggdrasil herself, and Nature's Attendent is Yggdrasil's right hand man so they'll naturally know each other well

Vyle

Well they're both from the same pantheon at least.

Paladin

I think one of them is umbra and the other is eversmile

Mat

Umbra was the 1st God for the second universe. So she not a primordial

Olof Karlsson

Thanks for the chapter!

Jana

“At least the Unique Lifeform seemed to annoy teasing her” - something feels off here. If I were to guess it’ll be “enjoy teasing her”?

Irakli Jishkariani

Hmm, my bet is daofather and probably eversmile?? Not sure on second one

John Looney

This turns into a meeting of all the primordials would be hilarious and my guess is aeon and shit what’s the elementals name the one sylphs is blessed by

Vega

When you notice everyone in your class hanging out in the bar so you head over to see what’s up. Is the perfect description of the ending.

Anonymous

I'd guess Stormild and Aeon

Myridex

+5 to the Jake watchparty

john henderson

Just gonna info dump a bit here, the twelve primordials are: Present: Villy, Valdemar, Wyrmgod Missing so far: Aeon Clock, Eversmile, Stormild, Blightfather, Holy Mother, Rigoria the Maker, Daofather, Starseizing Titan, Yggdrasil.

john henderson

Aeon and Eversmile (as well as formerly Villy pre-Jake) are referred to as the "Hidden Ones" because they tend to focus exclusively on their own research and shut out the rest of the goings on. This makes them unlikely candidates, unfortunately.

Valhazstromoz

Gods can't make equipment for mortals the records in the weapon simply wouldn't allow mortals too use them

john henderson

I feel like there's not enough information on Rigoria or the Starseizing Titan to make them likely candidates, but it's possible I'm just forgetting some sort of key foreshadowing details shared regarding the two.

Matthew Avery

Right. So. Primordials there: Villy, Valdemar, Wyrmgod. Primordials like to show up: Eversmile (clash of the karmic), Aeon (bc.sword saint). Who won't come? Probably Stormild (bc.size), starsiezing titan(bc.smithing more important), Rigoria (bc. making more important), Daofather (bc.he'll call the meeting pointless), Holy Mother (bc.she'll call the meeting pointless), Yggdrasil (bc.it aint moving). Others that will probably show up. Lord Protector, Ladies of verdant lagoon, Eternal Servant (He will try. He will fail), Duskleaf (Invited by Villy. Will refuse unless bribed.)

Ivo Wißen

Umbra is not a primordial But i think blightfather and holy mother would be fun But i feel eversmile is a sure bet

john henderson

Stormild of course blessed Sylphy, but has also been described as wreaking havoc wherever they go, and doesn't seem to be one for sitting still and watching, so while I would love for them to show up mostly just to see more of the characterization, it's probably pretty unlikely. Seeing as Nature's Attendant escorted Artemis, I would deem it unlikely as well that Yggdrasil would show up, although tree roots do match the idea of someone with their pulse on the happenings of the multiverse. Its possible, especially because its a month later, the Daofather is one of the 2 candidates, as that accounts for the time for Jake defeating the dao lord to reach his non-challenge dungeon form, and then for it to be relayed up the ladder. The Daofather also has personal stake in Nevermore leaderboards, as well as matching the descriptor. Of course the two most likely candidates seem to be the dysfunctional couple of the Holy Mother and the Blightfather, both with personal stake, and constantly meddling with the state of the multiverse. TLDR Either Holy Mother and Blightfather, or one of the two substituted for the Daofather are the most likely scenarios in my opinion. Though I'm hoping it's wrong cause I wanna see Watchface and Hurry Crane.

Craig

Perhaps the "pulse on the happenings" reference is two ways. Like a pulse as in living referencing blightfather and aeon as in clock

Ilinorin

In regards to the king, you have to also remember that the king is specialized in soul magic, he was like 140 something d grade unique life form to Jake's not even peak e grade, and the attack was his trump card. Throughout the story it has been hinted at how strong Jake's soul is. He was able to keep conscious while fighting off energies in the early challenge dungeon. Then he manifested an avatar in E grade when dealing with the drop of blood and fought to maintain himself. The avatar bit being something even higher grades not being able to do if you remember the soulflame lesson. He dominated a higher grade curse than him in D grade and continued to developed his soul space. He also got a skill specific to his soul...

john henderson

oh also if it were the dysfunctional couple, it would parallel Villy and Valdy being in the room pretty well, so I guess bonus points for that.

Craig

Could we bet on who'll place bets? Like Inception this thing? If so i bet on Eversmile turning up at the end to place a bet and that he's been there the whole time

Ilinorin

I think it's been stated and hinted at that eversmile while working with YoY doesn't really care either way what happens, and would most likely fall on the side of the primordial. I think the issue isn't if the primordials will leak the fact valdy and Villy are hanging out, but rather the more of them there are in one room hanging out, the more attention it will bring. Not to mention YoY seems to be able to have some sort of skill or maybe bloodline thing to pick up on potential plot points for his story, such as the whole bit on him sorta coming up with Jake being a heretic. Though he just thinks that Jake could be swayed away from Villy.

'how dare to fuck another mortal from your own universe repeatedly before even meeting a level 0 image of me in the event that it may eventually pique my interest' ... Whoever said gods had to be reasonable?

Villy is always lamenting at not being able to be social & be himself. If it weren’t for the reason centering around Jake, which both risks his secrets and Villy’s schemes, this would be great. Jake and Villy discussed not being able to gather without it becoming a big deal—but Nevermore being a closed venue & excuse in one is perfect as they can somewhat regulate the crashers. Since the place has its own innate significance on so many fates, maybe their gathering passes a tipping point that upgrades something for wyrmgod then ripples back out to the other gods as a nice surprise?…then they all look at each other and suddenly agree they should meet up more often. Next time, just to fuck with the others not in the cool kids club freaking out about why they could be possibly meeting and see how events change in reaction. But then Eternal Servant tries to crash and they all either hunker down harder not letting him in or scatter again.

I'd have to say, it's definetly Eversmile and my guess is Aeonclok. I think those 2 are the least antagonistic that could show up at the same time, and both seem to care about goings on. Alternatively the Daofather instead of Aeon, but he seems even more hands off than Aeon. So maybe the Blightfather? Either way, definetly Eversmile. Especially with that throwaway Eversmile mention, like to remind Jake/ the reader that Eversmile existed.

NSaaby

Edit? At least the Unique Lifeform seemed to "annoy" teasing her quite a bit as he showed her some of his own recordings from when Jake did his labyrinth. enjoy?

Cordell Patrick

While I don't doubt Eversmile showing up. It's more likely one of the others. Either Daofather, Holy Mother, or Stormild. This is because Eversmile doesn't have anyone going threw but those three do. Also if the Titan can shrink I bet Stormild can if they want to.

Michael

Either the reason why two more primordials showed up to nevermore are 1. Because two of the other primordials are interested in the happenings of Jake (likely the Dao father and my guess stormild in this case due to sylphie and Jake's pact needing a refresh.) 2. Sylphie has done something amazing in her challenge dungeon, thus perking the interest of stormild, while aeon showed up to supply the sword saint 3. The daofather showed up to take a look at Jake's achievements after the encounter with his affinity and eversmile possibly showing up due to his likely karmic connection to other shapeshifters and wanting to know why Jake could so easily find them. All in all some fun things are brewing, and I'm looking forward to see those predatory eyes Artemis is gonna have for Jake once she sees him stand before likely all 12 primordials if things continue to escalate like this. (Also cheeky minaga trying to sell Jake on Artemis more is just perfection)

Tim Bartlett

At least the Unique Lifeform seemed to "enjoy" teasing her quite a bit as he showed her some of his own recordings from when Jake did his labyrinth.

Craig

It's going to be fun to see her expression :) how shocked everyone will be when jake is just treating them all like no big deal

Michael

One of the other things I can definitely see as to why Vilas doesn't want anyone viewing all of Jake's shenanigans even if the challenge dungeon he's in doesn't allow him to go bull shit primal mode (yet). I can only imagine how absolutely annoyed he would be in trying to explain the subtle things about Jake or even trying to explain his bs. Though I do find it interesting and funny that Jake is unintentionally bringing the good old dysfunctional primordial family back together

Areshan

Formerly "Unique Lifeform seemed to annoy teasing her quite a bit"

FOV

maybe it is because of how many events are going on, but I noticed you are more telling than showing a lot of the story recently. it gives me the feeling of Jake just saying “oh yea this this and this happened but it’s not worth my time to explain it to the detail” and then just summarizes the entire story and what he did. there is no suspense, no action, and honestly quite average to read. I hope that this is just for the sake for fast forwarding us to the good parts

kry

Are we taking bets on who the 2 primordials are? I’m gonna bet the Daofather, not really sure about the other though. Maybe Eversmile? I would rather someone else though, Eversmile is annoying. Stormild would be fun but I doubt they would be interested. We don’t really know anything about the Holy Mother’s personality when around equals, so I would be interested in seeing her but I’m still kinda hoping it’s not her. Edit: rereading the end talking about them having a “pulse on the happenings of the multiverse” and that they “wouldn’t miss a gathering like this” I honestly don’t know who the two are. I guess Eversmile seems more likely as he sees the karmic threads of everything. Separately from the primordials, I hope Umbra shows up at some point. I wanna know more about her personality.

kry

Oh man that would be such a plot twist, I hope they are married that would be so funny (and horrific considering how many die in their wars, but also it’s the multiverse so in the ground scheme of things a few billion deaths doesn’t matter)

You forgot the blightfather. He has an interest in Jake and that’s likely increased after Jake managed to beat one of his generals in the coliseum

GuyWhoReadsALot

This is going in a direction I did not expect, and I like it!

Waterhobit

I feel Aeon Clok is a likely culprit, I am not sure Eversmile would be welcome. Stormild doesn’t seem like it would have much interest in a Netflix party even if Sylphie is on the show. The Dao Father isn’t too much of a stretch though.

SpectreHarlequin

My guess on the 2 Primordials is Holy Mother and Eversmile. They seem like the two who like to keep tabs on everything. I'm not sure the Dao lord cares, not sure the Blightfather socializes much. Aeon clock seems like his interests are narrow. Some of the others are not practical to show up.

Dion Crump

I’m thinking this is our breather after the Colosseum arc while he builds up a ridiculous reaction to Jake besting the strongest human ever

Matthew Avery

True, Malth. Can't believe I forgot the blightfather, but remembered Rigoria. Smh.

Matthew Avery

Thing about the titan is that I immagine him a slightly more sociable existance than the sapient elemental. I would however love for Stormild to join in. They were a delight back with Sylphies blessing and oath union.

Golden Times

Umbra and eversmile👋

Golden Times

Umbra was a primordial too right?

Tarodan

She is not. I think she's a 2nd universe god, so she's about as close as you can get though.

Jayson Legott

I bet the new primordials are Eversmile and Aeon Clok. The rest seem to have a faction. My second choice is The Holy Mother and Blightfather since they such huge factions and are antagonistic. Plus it would be cool to see the Blightfather and what he’s about

Michael Fannon

Omg, just pictured the Eternal Servant as Andy Dick from the family guy scene. https://youtu.be/yVoq7bANR2M?si=clOmo9hQ4xmzKenq

Michael Fannon

Blightfather and Holy Mother are my guess. The rest seem to caught up in their own projects or interests to care about the goings on in the multiverse.

Drumic

Aeon has the old man to look in on, for the 2nd i think it would be cool if the storm/elemental primordial stops in to check on her favorite blessed bird.

Bobby B

I have a hard time thinking the 2 primordials that have an ongoing crusade against each other would hang out together. Although as primordials they probably get along ok. But their members don’t. I like The Holy Mother and Eversmile.

Bobby B

Eversmile for sure. Then either the Holy Mother or Aeon Clok.

Hayden Leech

I wonder if it’s Rigoria. She probably doesn’t like Jake very much right now…

Anonymous

I would assume none of those three. Eversmile and Aeon Clock are famously reclusive doing their own things, so not the kind of people to gravitate towards gatherings of powerful people so much that should be expected to be there. I can't see the holy mother fitting that description either. I think it unlikely to be the fey illusionist working towards getting as many followers as she can. She is trying to aim for the soul of every mortal she possibly. Can't see it being Rigoria the blight father or storming. My best guess is a couple new ones we haven't seen yet.

Legacy

Great guess and thought process - think you were the only one who got it

Hunter Thornton

Artemis is there to jump them bones, Vlady is there to demand a rematch, Natures Attendant is there for (ahem) his granddaughter, Minaga is just there for comedy relief, but they ain’t no mention of Umbra (still a possible harem candidate) and no mention of Jakes “daughter”. This is shaping up to b

“but honestly, they weren’t missing much with the Test of Character dungeon. Not that it wasn’t fun to see Jake trying to figure out what he was supposed to do, but the Viper believed he was quite unique in his enjoyment of that.” Then why are we stuck hearing about lol lol can we time skip all the rest of the challenge dungeons and get him out of nevermore it’s been 30 some years haha

Tragic Hysteria

I can only imagine that gaze will eventually evolve into a form that will allow him to view and suppress/manipulate the origin of things and people I. Some ways. Like in addition to interfering with there soul he would also glimpse there core concepts and suppress them

Sean Shivers

Seeing characters in different contexts is genuinely enjoyable... it's also strong characterization. Fighting is all well and good, but decisions and relationships are far more interesting.
