”You’re a real smooth-talker, huh?” Jake heard from behind as Carmen walked up to stand beside him. ”Sure trying to get that little dragon princess wrapped around your finger.”

”Hm?” Jake said, not entirely sure what she was getting at. ”No, I was trying to be polite. She just seemed a bit sheltered and nervous.”

”Damn, you’re dense at times,” Carmen sighed. ”Think about it. That little princess has definitely been praised and raised up her entire life, with every single male influence in her life, either a family member, someone trying to get in her pants, or people too fucking scared to try anything as they know the kind of trouble they could get into for offending her. Then you come along, confident and unbothered by her status, treating her like an equal and being all nice, while she also knows her dad would probably be over the moon if she dragged you home with a ring on her finger.”

Jake stared at Carmen for a while as she spoke before shaking his head. ”I think you’re reading way too much into this.”

”She definitely isn’t,” Jake suddenly got backstabbed as his brother decided to join her. ”Let me put in terms you can probably understand better. Imagine if it was you, before the system, as a young man. One day, you are asked to deliver something to some attractive millionaire model, who then proceeds to have a nice conversation with you, treating you incredibly friendly. All the while, Mom and Dad are hiding behind a bush ten meters away, giving you thumbs-ups, telling you to go get her.”

”I… don’t think that analogy works,” Jake muttered.

”Kind of does,” Carmen agreed. ”Not really, but kind of, I guess. Anyway, the point is most women who view you as a potential partner will see you being nice as a green flag and potentially even the most mundane flirting in the world. Coupled with them being sheltered with no idea how to act around the opposite sex, you get situations like this.”

Jake looked at her and Caleb, who nodded in the background as Jake sighed. ”So, what’s the solution?”

”Fuck if I know,” Carmen shrugged and smirked. ”Not my problem either. Just trying to be helpful here so you are at least aware of what you’re doing and don’t get taken by surprise when you suddenly get a surprise proposal. In all honesty, I find your cluelessness and all the blushing fair maidens quite amusing.”

”Ditto,” Caleb seconded. ”Also, it would be hilarious if you dragged a dragon home to Mom and Dad. Even more hilarious if you dragged a whole bunch of women home from all sorts of different races…”

”Are you hinting at wanting me to introduce someone to you? Damn, I’ll have to tell Maja what you’re up to while exploring the multiverse…” Jake said, looking at this brother with a faux disappointed look.

”Alright, alright,” Caleb raised his hands in surrender. ”You just keep doing you. Anyway, I actually came to say that I’ll have to do some politics of my own, so see you around. Oh yeah, and I feel like I say this every time, but do come by Skyggen for a visit sometime, yeah?”

”Okay,” Jake nodded. Yeah, he really should visit, especially after spending such a long time in Nevermore.

Caleb walked off, and Jake saw Maria had also bailed somewhere. The others were busy on their own as Carmen stayed standing beside Jake.

”Don’t you have to do some Valhal stuff?” Jake questioned her.

”I am doing Valhal stuff right now by standing next to you and chatting in full view of a bunch of major factions, including that orange fuck across the room,” Carmen responded.

”Ah,” Jake said as he smirked. ”So you only bother to hang around me because it’s work?”

”Not gonna lie, I am getting a bit annoyed at both you and Valhal at this point. One day, they’re telling me to get closer to you; the next, they’re telling me to stay as far away as I can, and now we’re apparently back to them wanting to make it look like Valhal has a good relationship with you,” Carmen said, shaking her head. ”Fucking politics.”

”Amen,” Jake agreed wholeheartedly as he decided to quickly put up a barrier of stable arcane mana to keep their conversation private. ”But if it’s worth anything, I have a feeling they’re not going to flip-flop more after I met Valdemar.”

”Nah, definitely not,” Carmen shrugged, and with the barrier up, she seemed a bit more open to sharing information. ”Seems pretty keen on making you join Valhal at this point, and from what I heard, Ell’Hakan and Yip of Yore are fully aware of that, potentially even on board. I have no fucking idea what they’re planning, but it definitely includes separating you from the Malefic Viper, one way or another.”

Jake was a bit surprised as he looked at Carmen. ”You seem awfully informed. Do they keep you up-to-date on things?”

”Apparently so. Gudrun agrees with wanting a closer relationship between Valhal and you, and she seems to think the best way of doing that is through me,” Carmen explained casually. ”Pretty sure they want me to be a honeypot or something like that. Haven’t directly asked me yet, but damn, have they hinted at it.”

”I’m not sure how to respond to that,” Jake said, scratching the back of his head.

”Now you’re the one overthinking,” Carmen grinned as she punched Jake in the shoulder. ”Ain’t no fucking way I’m going to be anyone’s honeypot.”

Jake felt a bit relieved as he nodded in response.

”Not that you can’t have some honey once in a while,” Carmen said flirtatiously. ”Just don’t get your dick stuck in the pot.”

Chuckling, Jake shook his head. ”Not gonna say no when offered.”

”You know, I just realized how damn good I am at my job,” Carmen said as she stared out of the transparent stable barrier of arcane mana. ”Look at how damn well I showed off the multiverse the great relationship between us to the level of making that little dragon lady of yours jealous.”

Jake had indeed spotted a certain dragon in human form throw glances their way as the Disciple of the Heartsoul Daolord tried to take her attention away from Jake and Carmen talking.

”Oh well, I guess I should stop breaking the hearts of every young lady present,” Carmen said jokingly after a bit as she threw Jake a deep look. ”Hm, maybe it’s the mask? Nah, definitely the dangerous and mysterious aura.”

”Very funny,” Jake said as he waved her off and dispelled the arcane barrier.

”Hey, it has its appeal,” Carmen shrugged as she walked off. ”See you around, Jake.”

”Enjoy politicking,” Jake said as the Runemaiden gave him a middle finger before she decided to finally get back to some people from Valhal.

Returning to the others from the Earth group, Jake enjoyed talking a bit with Eron and Arnold. Alright, mainly Arnold, as Eron preferred to listen, not really adding much, and only ever really chiming in when he asked some questions about certain concepts. The three of them ended up mainly discussing the House of the Architect as time passed slowly, with the conversation being quite enlightening.

By now, most of the people who really wanted to talk to Jake had. More did come by simply to congratulate him but without wanting anything in particular. People from the Altmar Empire, United Tribes, and a few other factions, big and small, either invited or restated their offer for him to visit, and they were all very polite about it.

From these interactions, it did become clear that besides the titles Chosen of the Malefic Viper and Harbinger of Primeval Origins, Jake apparently now had a third title that made others both wary of him, and interested in forging good relations. In other words, his prestige was building, and it was building at a far higher speed compared to his so-called rival.

Something this rival clearly knew… as it appeared Viridia’s prediction had been slightly off. She had predicted that Ell’Hakan would keep a good distance from Jake throughout the get-together, avoiding any interactions with him. However, Jake soon saw him approach, not even walking with any of his cronies or people from other factions. He made his way over all alone, and as the person with the second-most interest placed on him in the whole event, his movements caught quite some attention. As the entire get-together was also winding down at this point, far less interesting things were happening, making the Chosen’s actions stand out even more.

Jake calmed himself down as he saw Ell’Hakan approach from behind. He quickly considered what the hell the other Chosen was planning, as he also realized the implications of Ell’Hakan approaching Jake.

For him to seek out Jake was almost seen as a sign of submission – a sign he viewed Jake as someone with a higher status, making it only proper conduct for Ell’Hakan to be the one approaching Jake. What’s more, for him to do so alone indicated he came as an individual and not someone representing any faction or gathering of factions.

When Ell’Hakan got within ten or so meters, Jake turned to meet him. Acting arrogant or haughty would gain Jake nothing. He had treated every other person who approached him so far politely, even those he didn’t really know or wasn’t a fan of, and treating Ell’Hakan differently or even antagonistically would only play into his story that they were fated rivals or something dumb like that.

Jake especially wanted to avoid looking like some arrogant young master. Arrogant young masters never won.

One could almost sense the tension in the room as Ell’Hakan did something Jake had not expected. He cupped his hands and slightly bowed toward Jake with a smile. ”Greetings, Lord Thayne. I wish to congratulate you on being the new champion of the All-Time Leaderboards. It’s truly an achievement worth recognition.”

It took a lot from Jake to not just blurt out and ask what the hell the guy wanted, but he kept his cool. He couldn’t let emotions control any of his actions, especially not in front of Ell’Hakan, who could read everything. Jake really didn’t like to be put in this situation, but he would have to manage as he evaluated the situation.

Ell’Hakan had clearly taken a more respectful stance. His choice of calling Jake ”Lord Thayne” was definitely also deliberate. It communicated a closer relationship than merely using a title and remained polite in nature while also conveniently leaving out mentioning any relations to Jake’s Patron. Just from this alone, and his earlier talk with Carmen, Jake had a guess what Ell’Hakan’s goal was.

”Thank you,” Jake said calmly, continuing as he responded in kind, though he failed to not at least take a small dig at the other man. ”I should also congratulate you on your placement as Era’s Pinnacle. To hold such a title for even a moment is impressive.”

Ell’Hakan smiled at Jake’s reponse, as by now, quite a lot of attention had gathered on them. The conflict between Yip of Yore and the Malefic Viper was an undercurrent of the multiverse all factions with influence of any kind knew about. It was a situation they closely monitored, and a social clash between their two Chosen had to be of significance.

”I did my best, and I guess I couldn’t have done more than that. Still, I take pride in what I did accomplish, even if my performance ultimately only allowed me to enter the top 10 of the All-Time Leaderboards,” the other Chosen said with a sigh.

”All anyone can do is their best,” Jake simply agreed non-committedly, trying to give Ell’Hakan as little ammunition to work with as possible while remaining polite and neutral.

”Isn’t that the truth,” Ell’Hakan said with a melancholic smile as he spoke in a slighly louder tone than before. ”It’s what we all strive to do. To do our best in any situation, with the power, resources, knowledge, and state of mind we have at that moment in time. Yet sometimes, even our best does not prove enough, as was proven on the Leaderboards this day. This… brings me to the past, where I also made decisions and did things that I at the time believed were my best course of action, but now, in retrospect, only brings me regret.”

Jake had tried to not give Ell’Hakan ammunition… yet it seemed like he had done just that as the other Chosen continued.

”My failure was to be found in the knowledge I had, forming the reason behind my actions. Assumptions, created from nothing but my own biases and through sin by association… something I now realize was a mistake, and the second reason I approached you here today, Lord Thayne,” Ell’Hakan said, very deliberately wanting all the eyes on him he could get as he bowed.

”With my deepest sincerity, I apologize for past transgressions. I acted foolishly and committed sins I can only hope to be forgiven and strive to make up for,” Ell’Hakan continued before speaking to the room as much as to Jake. ”I invaded your planet, killed people close to you, and created chaos, believing I was doing the right thing. Believing I was freeing your world from a tyrant who wished to use the planet in the fashion we have seen the Order of the Malefic Viper use so many others. I was wrong and had jumped to conclusions, and now I realize you never acted on orders of your Patron. I realize you are not the second coming of the Malefic Viper… you are Lord Thayne, your own person, through and through.”

There were few times in Jake’s life when he had been more glad he wore a mask than now because his face did not look good. He had no idea what to say, as by all accounts, Ell’Hakan’s words sounded honest. Moreover, Jake did not detect the slightest use of any Bloodline shenanigans – assuming Jake would even be able to detect it.

The only place it was maybe used was Ell’Hakan using it on himself, making his own words sound more emotional and sincere. Because damn, did he sound genuine in his apology. Thing is… Jake knew he was playing at something, and Jake desperately tried to figure out what that was so he could get out ahead of it before it was too late.

”In fact, I came to learn that despite your identity, Jake Thayne is far more than just the Chosen of the Malefic Viper. Harbinger of Primeval Origins and now the one holding the top spot of the All-Time Leaderboards are but two of your titles. Look at those you associate with, too. Your fellow natives, friends, blessed by more than half of all the Primordials.”

Ell’Hakan continued his speech, as he no longer had his head bowed, but looked up with a smile on his face.

”You are truly a one-of-a-kind existence. A Bloodline Patriarch, wielding more potential than possibly anyone the multiverse has ever seen, and for the longest time, I didn’t realize that you weren’t this special because you were the Chosen of the Malefic Viper… you would be you, regardless of which god had realized your excellence first.”

His words were clearly praise, but they made Jake feel slimy, as he now had a really good idea of what he was trying to do.

”I say all this with the hope of making it clear… I never bore any animosity toward Lord Thayne. Only the Chosen of the Malefic Viper. The one friend I killed was also a follower of the Viper, making me believe he, too, was a fanatic who would only cause the multiverse harm. Now I see he may have been innocent… and that knowledge truly gnaws at me,” Ell’Hakan said with a sad look on his face.

”Alas, I hope we can look toward the future. I hope you will give me the opportunity to make up for the sins of my past and repay you, Jake Thayne, for the transgressions I have caused. I swear now that I will truly do my best to try and set things right.”

Jake simply stared at the other Chosen for a bit, and just as he was about to open his mouth, Ell’Hakan bowed one more time.

”Please, take the time to consider my words… I do not need an answer here today. I merely wished to express my emotions and regret, as I hope to one day be forgiven. Regardless of your decision, know that I no longer hold any animosity toward you. Even if you can’t forgive me, I, at the very least, hope that the next time we meet, it will not be as enemies. I truly do not want to fight you if it can be avoided.”

Ell’Hakan did not leave more time to say anything as he spoke loudly to the crowd and Jake alike. ”Thank you for listening to my words so patiently today, Lord Thayne. May next we meet be an encounter we both look back upon and call fortunate.”

With those words, Ell’Hakan bowed and left swiftly as he teleported away… leaving Jake with a final telepathic message.

”Do not think my words a mere ruse or deceit. I truly have nothing against the man known as Jake Thayne, only he who identifies as the Chosen of the Malefic Viper… and I have a feeling you perhaps are more of the prior than the latter. You do not need the Malefic Viper, but he desperately needs you to rebuild himself. I already know how thin your loyalty is and how little faith you have in your heart. This is not a sin, but merely recognizing your own worth. So, I implore you to rethink your position. Rethink if staying with a god such as the Malefic Viper is truly in your best interest in the long run. Valhal, a reputable and respected faction, is also interested in having you join them, and if you choose to throw off the chains that is the failing Malefic Viper, I truly believe the War God himself would take you as his Chosen. I will not tell you what to do; just remind you of the many alternatives you have. You will thrive anywhere; you need no one. Can find a home anywhere. So why stay on a sinking ship?”

“Endless Tribes” Not a thing. Endless empire (bugs) United tribes (beasts/beastkin)

Strato Junon

"Jake calmed him down as he saw Ell’Hakan approach from behind." Think this should be himself?

Ritsu

The idea that Cheeto is attempting to turn Jake away from Villy because he just can't even imagine that they are BFFs is so fucking funny to me. Jake understands that maybe you screw over your shitty boss, but you don't screw over your buddy.

mitchell kaiser

lol good luck with that orange fuck, Villy and Jake are drinking buddies you don’t just break that up.

Zizawah

Poor Jake! Left speechless…:D

Numbzy

Ohhh, watching EH bury himself at the end there is so satisfying. He's trying so hard but is again, misreading the situation.

One Winged Angel

Next Chapter: "Did you just insult my best friend and ask me to betray him?" "Uh..." *Execute Order 66*

Omar Jimenez

Ugh, what a slimy piece of shit. I don’t expect Jake to do anything rash, but damn if I don’t want to see our boy curb stomp Ell’Hakan flat. But anyway, don’t care either way if Jake gets a harem or not, but it would be hilarious to see him try to explain it to his parents, as I recall them being pretty damn sheltered.

Mike

amazing chapter! This is getting gooooooood

Marcus

It's interesting to me the emphasis placed on the Jake leaving Villy. Do we know a stated reason on why? I'm guessing for their narrative, and also to keep other factors interested in Jake Juice happy?

Mantiqore

EH trying to get Jake away from his drinking buddy... no chance m8

Zizawah

Ell’Hakan got without ten or so meters — within transparent stable of arcane mana. — wall of stable arcane mana?

Raghav S

Damnit now i gotta wait 2 days pain

Khaleel Mansi

I applaud Zogarth for writing such a slimy POS character, I needed a a shower after reading this chapter

Numbzy

Well Jake is a heretic. Additionally, people who are fanatic about their gods tend to feel like fanatics in their aura.

Karim Saadi

This so much, it's hilarious. They have NO idea what his relationship with Villy is.

daniel gager

Oh that slime man with his slime words!

Sandraacox

Thanks for the chapter.

Mohammed Sheekh

I hope jake just replies with "ain't no way you're running away now boii, I will see you outside, run that 1v1 boi"

Michael

I do love that Ell'Hakan has pretty much admitted that he would fail spectacularly if ge tried to fighter Jake, especially since Jake is just getting more and more supporters, thus making him someone that no one wants to attack or at least not want to make an enemy

William Wilson

Really looking forward to hakan and yore being erased by villy and jake

Danny

Bah that Orange fuk realy gets under my hide realy nice charakter I just hope he get stabed some how soon xD

Stevean Bozek

Orange boy genuinely believes his own bullshit. Nobody truly seems to understand the simple concept that Jake and Villy are friends, BFFs to the end. Ell'Hakan is the type of person who views everyone around him as tools to be used, abused and thrown away when they no longer serve they're broken. The very concept of friendship is alien and incompatible with him. It definitely doesn't seem to be an uncommon mindset, but it's extra bad for a guy who was manipulating people to do his bidding with his OP bloodline and making himself a king long before the system arrived.

Jaydan Man

It is hilarious that the cheeto doesnt realise that jake doesn't "follow" Villy. That he is just a mate. Which means that he isnt going to abandon his mate for Valdemar especially when Yippity doo dah wants that. Whats more that he is Villy's chosen because they are mates. They both benefit but its not a god, chosen relationship its literally just to friends doing in each other a fabour

Garry

For all his bloodline advantages, Ell'Haken still has no idea who Jake truly is and how he truly feels. The fact both he and Yip continue to think turning Jake away from Villy is their best option, is both hilarious and sad at the same time. They have no idea that this path of 'storytelling' is likely the quickest path to their dooms.

Ctrl Alt Dust

That would be awesome if, as his status as a heretic, he can just stack those Chosen titles. Jake Thayne, Heretic Chosen of Damn Near Everyone.

Detrox

Yeah. It's so inconceivable, that none of them even considered it to be the reason. That is why I see it all exploding into their faces, because ultimately they are right, Jake doesn't even need to be Viper's chosen to still remain friends with him.

Valhazstromoz

Important stuff aside look at Aisha getting all jealous she's so cuuuuuute

Joseph Coonelly

Mainly for their narrative especially after Vesperias reveal to the multiverse. Yip and cheeto would have too many enemies if Jake was killed so they started to lean towards trying to turn him heretical to leave Viper. Not realizing he's already a high tier heretic lol. I can't wait till that reveal, hope zog does the reveal around Yip and cheeto just to see their reaction.

Harbby

Damn, cheeto really fell for it.

Doctordirt

Well besides the obvious backlash the viper would get from losing his chosen.

prahasth dave

Zog my man, please please set up a scene where Jake smacks the shit out of the jumpsuit wannabe. He is too good at getting on people’s nerves (and that just means you wrote him pretty damn well, so hats off!)

Josh Hietpas

Tftc!! Hey zog, any chance you would ever sell a feplica danger noodle statue that felix created? Would go hard on my desk

Phasmatic7

Thankies for the chappie zogie

Hayden Leech

Man they are devoting a lot of effort/time/wasted opportunities into getting Jake to defect. I bet Villy is just laughing the time away as his chosen literally can’t defect. Hahaha

Chrisbirdie

Its still silly to me how unbelivably confident Ellhakan and Yip of yore are to believe they can just overthrow a Primordial. And its still hilarious to see that basically not a single god except for the Dusk alchemist believes the fact that Jake is literally just hanging out with Villy.

Cory Sauls

I think Jake did the right thing by saying nothing and to not respond openly to anything EH said openly or privately. Jake’s needs to continue letting eh think he can be swayed to leave Villy so EH and Yip continue to dig themselves a deeper hole

nathan

God dammit. Can we have the next chapter just be Jake putting that orange fuk in his place and calling out his bullshit narrative he changes every 5 seconds haha

Sachieiel

Yes, killing Jake would end the hopes of countless races that their ancient variants might be revived. It would be extremely difficult to form a heroic narrative around it and the politics would be fraught. Jake leaving Villy would be a great beat for their story and wouldn't upset anyone, so they're laying out a path for him in the hopes he takes it. Also at this point EH would likely really like not want to fight him after his nevermore performance.

SmokeJam

The best ruses are the wordless ones.

TSMS

We need an Ell'Hakan pov in the future, where he gets offered a Heretic-Chosen skill, because of his interactions with Jake and then starts to piece together the relationship between Jake and Villy.

jord

"I know your faith is thin" he says to the heretic. By Villy's left nut I can't wait till the lid pops on that one

Mikro Kissa

I have never wanted to punch a fictional character more than now 😤

Ben Sheahan

Also worth noting that neither the Viper nor Jake can remove the blessing so it’s a moot point either way. I’m keen to see what Villy is cooking behind the scenes.

Jaydan Man

Please remind me why he cant defect ? The chosen heretic deal ?

Hayden Leech

I hope that hurt Hakan. To say all that. Though he is the type to say anything if it gets him what he wants. Nice to spike his pride into the dirt though.

John Looney

I think the better question is which faction a bugbeast would go to like weird hybrid things have got to exist right

Dan

Jake essentially commandeered his chosen title, so neither he nor Villy can revoke it until one of them dies or Jake becomes a god

mathieu brassard

In a way, Ell'Hakan and Yip are not wrong, Jake has no loyalty to the Malefic Viper as they define loyalty. Jake is loyal to his friend before being loyal to the primordial

MrCynical

It's funny because NOBODY understands it. Not even the people that have witnessed the two of them messing around really understand it. Except maybe Duskleaf. After the thing with the photographed costume bet I think he finally gets it. But even Viridia and the Verdant Ladies don't get it. And that's just the gods. I think of the other mortals only those Jake has granted basically total grade resistance to or are other "monsters" like the SS could get it, but even none of them are friends with their patrons, more respected colleagues or bosses.

Thenais

Ell’Hakan must have hated every second of this 😚

David Deden

Well written - We all know, and we know Jake knows, that this is a Yip planned plot to separate him from the Viper, but what makes it sincere, and the narrative feel like Ell’Hakan has a point, is all the ground work of showing that the Malefic Viper and his order really aren't the "good guys" in the multiverse, and that Jake really is a heretic. Without all that foundation this exchange would be cartoon villain-ish. If it wasn't for Jake and the Viper's friendship I would probably think Jake should join Val'Hal... that and knowing that Val'Hal's pursuit of Jake is only semi-sincere

Skanda

Hell's yeh. I want a danger noodle action figure/statue for my setup

Josh Hietpas

I don’t think so. His legend probably grew as he displayed remorse. Im betting he did that for people to view him as a more benevolent chosen, thus growing his legend and making him/yip more powerful.

Hellhound

I think Jake stealing his True Blessing for himself is one of the best decisions he made, even if unintentional. It was the only way he could have secretly locked in his position with the Malefic Viper without any concern of choosing another blessing. If not for that, I wonder if the viper would be more cautious against Jake.

Eltirno

Dude actually called Jake a disloyal friend, to his face. It's like the bro code is an Earth invention or something.

Hayden Leech

Jake hijacked the true blessing from Villy. Part of his Heretic Chosen Path, Jake infact can’t get another blessing even if Villy dies. Their paths are pretty much intertwined at this point. (Villy can get his blessing back by killing Jake but that’s the only way unless Jake becomes a god or dies to something else)

Caedmon Fowler

I gotta say, I really thought for a second that Ell’Hakan was going to defect. Yip really needs to look on top or really down in the dumps. Having his own chosen leave him would be the thing to really cement his underdog status.

Jana

Yeah Ell´Hakan beeing devious while being most likely perfectly honest fits him well. Let´s just say Jake could and would leave the Viper - would Valdemar really make someone who left his God in time of need his chosen? And even if he did, Jake would be pushed into the narrativ of the chosen who got gifts from his Parton but left and even betrayed (since he´d join the "enemy" in Valhal) when the first chance popped up. Wouldnt that be nice for Ell Hakan and Yippedy Yip?

Sam Rosenberg

I like the honeypot storyline.

Daniel Hogan

Talking about Jake visiting Caleb... Are his parents alive? Does D rank let you live longer? Also... Caleb has missed his kids life?? Jake's nephew is 50 something years old now?!?!

Tyler Arendt

If I remember correctly, it’s something to do with him taking the viper’s blood and I think one of his skills he obtained said neither could change their status as god or chosen.

Nick

I can’t wait for this to get to the climax where it’s revealed he has become a heretic and Yip thinks he has won only for Jake and the Viper to start laughing.

Hayden Leech

I… I don’t think so. Sentient Ectognas are all female and they only give birth to queens right? Aside from their soulless drones. So any product of beast/ectogna pairings would be a female ectogna queen. Or a soulless drone under the control of a queen

One Winged Angel

Man this just turned juicy. The whole Multiverse save a select few don't know that Villy and Jake are just friends, and to everyone else Jake is just a chaotic prodigy who got blessed right out the gate and was ignorant to the Malefic Vipers Evils. But in reality Jake is Villy to a T. Man doesn't give two shits about politics, power, resources, or blind loyalty. He chooses who he like and who he doesn't and no one gets to tell her him otherwise. And now they just revealed their hand not knowing that Jake is dead loyal to Villy not because of his blessing but because the danger noodle is just a great guy.

Joseph Coonelly

Nevermore had time dilation. Only been a few years outside, don't remember exact amount though.

Laurent Jerry

Thats a damn good chapter, thank you <3

Amathew2

I think it’s more that for Jake to defect he would have to betray Villy, not because he is his chosen but because he is his friend. That means more to Jake than the chosen business. Jake has few people he would consider a true friend and he wouldn’t give that up for anything.

KenTX325

No, time is compressed inside Nevermore. Outside only 2-3 years have passed. Exact amount of time passed outside Nevermore has not been revealed, but it is less than 5 years since the World Congress meeting when the Prima invasion of earth in 5 years was announced.

Schmidt

Jake’s path is that of the heretic chosen, wouldn’t it be the most hereticy chosen thing to do to be the chosen of multiple primordials?

InfernoDroid

1st I Stan Jake getting a dragon girlfriend for a few tiers until he outpaces her. Next, theories: I think with villy being a schemer and Jake's vale we're going to see Jake "leave" villy and join up with valham. Villy will probably say something like "trust me buddy", and "it will be good training" and since they are friends and it would be good training Jake will agree. Also, we may see that Jake can be the chosen if multiple primordials with his Heretic chosen class. I thunk villy isn't the only primordial that would find his class amusing, I honestly get the vibe that they are so bored that they would enjoy the novelty of it for a few million years, at least long enough for him to reach Godhood

Hayden Leech

Are worms bugs? Is sandy an ectogna?

EVillarreal

I mean, yeah it is frustrating but also very obvious that this is what their new strategy was going to be. They were already hinting at it way before, now they are really leaning into it so tbh nothing changed in the grand scheme of things, they are just redirecting all the antagonistic energy towards Villy and I'm sure this was already in his plans. Also wouldn't be surprised if instead of the grand and cathartic final showdown, Jake might be petty enough to deny El' Hakan any spotlight whatsoever and just leave him to fade in the background (even tho personally I would rather Jake just wiping the floor with him). The only one that really needs/wants the theatrics to make the "big" come back is Villy, so the fight with Yip has to happen.

Iam PANKANK

thing is even other gods couldn't just "hang out" with a Primordial the power difference is too much. its anathema to most of the universes thinking that a mortal let alone a newly integrated mortal could have an equal relationship let alone a mutual one with a God. if Jake wasn't Villy's Chosen most people even a grade above him would also consider it rude that he acts casually towards them, the chosen status means he has the same rep as Villy in any conversation.

Iron

Happy Easter!!! Thanks for the chapter

Govir Drauka

I forget the exact number, but Nevermore has some time dilation going on. It’s been at most 10yrs outside…but I think it’s even less.

DirePants

I can’t stand this orange slimy talking tyrant probably the worst person in the world… oh and Ell’Hakan sucks too. He really kept pushing the whole “I’m not mad at Jake just The Chosen”. Obviously trying to set up his justification for making Jake an enemy without it seeming like petty 2nd place jealousy. Maybe 🤷🏾‍♂️ lol

Ryan Ulrich

For all those people hating on EH, that means he is a good well written bad guy.

joel southard

Nice thank you for the chapter

Hunter Thornton

This putrid orange fuckstain that shoulda never been is the skumyest. Jake done tol u to fuck off so stop trying to break up the bromance. Carmen please punch this prick in the face and stomp em in the nuts!!

Thomas Laptain

I feel like Gudrun might not like it, but Valdemar would find it hilarious. He, Jake and Villy may end up meeting up for drinks together in secret until the plot is dealt with.

Tommy

lol, little does he know that Jake and Villy aren’t just chosen and patron, they are besties! Nothing can stand before the power of their friendship!

Vega

What I always liked about this is that the Viper didn’t even give Jake the True Blessing as an investment, unlike all other blessings given out by gods in general. He just gave Jake the big blessing to help out a guy he liked with his Tutorial. Vilas never expected shit back. But he got back so much anyway.

Jeff McCulley

“Never expected shit back”? He told Jake more than once that he was getting as much or more out of it as Jake is. Might not have been his primary motivation—but it was part of the equation

Naotsugu97

Enjoy your weekend! I’ll be doing yobbish stuff so to whomever joins me, 🤘

Jeff McCulley

Slimy git. Well, at least this means he’s buying into the narrative Villy & Co are trying to sell—rather than trying to write his own.

Jeff McCulley

Sure, that’s true. It doesn’t exclude the fact that he’s a hateworthy sleezeball, though.

William WIlson

While everyone else has mentioned the time dilation there is yet another factor that everyone missed. Jake's parents will make it to c grade minimum simply due to Jake and Caleb. They aren't c grade yet but Caleb mentions they will make c grade during the meeting before the Chosen ceremony. Also d grades with enough Vitality will live something like 10k years, minimum being 1000 years. Personally I think Jake's parents and Caleb will all easily reach a grade. Shit it wouldn't surprise me if they all became God's.

Lawrence Dillon

Jake does the impossible again and becomes a double heretic and chosen

JonO

Based on Caleb asking for another visit, and hinting at wanting Jake to bring home a woman, I think it'll be hilarious if Jake brings, vesper, sylphie, and sandy along and introduces his daughter, niece, and whatever he refers to sandy as respectively lol. I don't think heart attacks are a thing anymore.... but it's likely to happen lol

Lawrence Dillon

They jump yip and drink beers on his grave

Lay Nkay

Happy Easter everyone! Look, it's a new harem member

Thewalterwhite

Can that orange Cheeto fuck with his delusional patron fuck off already. I wish jake would have stopped cheetos speech and tell everyone that villy is a swell guy and a great drinking buddy. And add something to shittalk yip.

Thewalterwhite

Although it doesn’t seem a smart thing to do

Jeff McCulley

No reason to go that far. EH just took the bait that Villy and Valdemar (The V Boys) have been trolling. Hook, line and sinker. The end is nigh! Of Yip, that is. Likely Ell Suck-han as well.

IceHeart

I think that would require him to have at least some records of being a heretic, which seems unlikely

HereComesTheBoom

I gotta disagree. I dislike EH because I dislike the power set. I understand he’s supposed to the antithesis of Jake, but that doesn’t make any of their interactions entertaining, especially when Jake is still seemingly so incapable of dealing with them after this long.

Yuri_01

Lol, how little faith

Thewalterwhite

The viper for sure would be more cautious and maybe even a little scared. He has not only a chosen to lose, but a friend (something that seem hard to get). We got a hint at a thought from him, that he felt relieved that jake couldn’t renounce him.

Jeff McCulley

Jake is distinctly not Villy to a T. The latter has remarked on their distinct differences, there are parts of Villy that Jake will never be. Villy is fully aware of that. But that’s never been a requirement for being good friends and drinking buddies.

TSMS

Can someone tell me the books/chapters where we learn what the Viper actually did since he became a god? From what I remember, he avenged his wives death by wiping out a galaxy in the 7th or 8th universe or something before going into seclusion until he met Jake. After his return, he re-conquered one great planet and killed one god that wouldn't leave. There are many other factions or gods that don't seem much friendlier. Eversmile doesn't care how his experiments affect entire planets, Stormild is like a natural disaster and can destroy whole galaxies, the Holy Church always takes control of their planets and doesn't accept other factions and so on. Yip wiped out entire pantheons after he became a god. The current Viper seems pretty nice in comparison and also strives to change his image with time. After Jake met Meira, Villy pretty much stated to Duskleaf that he wants Jake to bring change to the Order (regarding slavery). So, how bad is Villy actually? How much of his reputation is justified, how much is old baggage or from his Orders doings and how much is propaganda by other factions?

William WIlson

While I don't think Ell’Hakan knows it yet but I think this actually hurt his Path. Yes it would help his Path if Jake denounced his Blessing but that can't happen so it is really just him looking subservient to his enemy which definitely hurts his Path. Ell’Hakan is obviously a conqueror, probably his class as become I think his profession is similar to Jake's and its the Chosen story weaver. If he's right he is basically a conqueror by telling stories. Which is why William noticed all the fucked up Karmic threads on Ell’Hakans home planet. Due to his Path showing submission to turn a fellow chosen would help his path just like Jake turning William helped his, the big issue is that Jake can't be turned due to system enforcement. Which means the only thing that really just happened was Ell’Hakan looking weak to an enemy he choose, which can't be good for either his class or profession.

Jeff McCulley

I think before that EH becomes the heretic. Then Jake still crushes the pathetic POS, because he’s not a misguided William.

Ryan Ulrich

That’s because Jake isn’t strong when it comes to the concept of social power. If he was perfect in all areas that would make him an incredibly boring character. EH exceeds in this sphere so it’s only natural that Jake often comes out on the losing end during their conversations even if he wins in the overall story

Thewalterwhite

I don’t know the chapters or quotes themselves, but he had as you said some kind of mental breakdown before he went to selusion. It was said that he basically destroyed a universe and had to be stopped by almost everyone from the promordials.

Grond (James)

I wonder if he will create a new class. Friend-Chosen of the Malefic Viper

William WIlson

I'd much rather Jake give a peace offering in a Grimoire, which he has basically hidden the Heretic portion of his profile to Ell’Hakan and basically throws a wrench into Yip of Yores plans. Yip of Yore would then try and kill Jake but because of his story falling apart he isn't really a god anymore and Jake easily kills him. Getting the title god slayer.

Schmidt

The viper has been known to make obscuring moves like that though

Jeff McCulley

No? Because Villy just doesn’t give a f*** about that. If anything, he simply appreciates Jake doing him a solid by helping out with the Yip thing.

Thewalterwhite

But I think most of the bad stories are from before and shortly after he became god. With how records work they should represent a lot of how the viper was before. And we saw several glimpses, how the vipers mindstate was in his path to power. He only really settled later and became chill

IceHeart

His B-grade was spent wiping out planets, and he had a reputation as a God to be very fearful of even before wiping out most of the universe, so he must have done other things that haven't been explicitly mentioned

_mori

Despite Jake’s apprehension, this doesn’t do all that much for Yip of Yore. Jake’s still number 1, dealing a blow to the God’s prestige, and whether he stays chosen of Villy or not won’t change it. And those who want to get close to Jake will do so regardless of Yip of Yore’s intentions (for the most part at least), since Jake will be able to give many of those actual benefits, compared to Yip of Yore that is a glorified propagandist. All that and there’s still the reality that should Jake make it anywhere close to the peak, on paper, he’ll be better than Yip.

Jeff McCulley

And knowing that Jake can’t forswear his blessing? Also, it’s not a Yip-planned plot. It’s a Yip maneuver in response to a Villy and Valdemar (and Gudrun) planned plot. A rather desperate gambit, one after several setbacks.

William WIlson

I can't be the only one wondering what effect Jake had beating Yip of Yore had on Yip of Yore. I mean Yip path is a legend making one in which I see holding Nevermores top score as being kinda important. I'd love to find out his pov during the Nevermore announcement. Like he'd be extremely happy and feeling the extra strength as his Chosen does so well to then feel a far larger loss in power due to Jake taking to top spot. He at first wouldn't fully understanding until Minaga announced it then he'd realize he's got a bunch of work to be done to fix this.

Jeff McCulley

Sure he did. And he hated it as he did it. The only redeeming point being that it was his only remaining path forward at this point. As Villy &Co intended.

Jacob Gondringer

So sir orange takes his shot, but aims for the wrong goal missing entirely. Nice

Austin Richins

Nothing like making enemies with a politician...

Hayden Leech

How great would it be if Jake had Vesperia settle on the Nahoom Homeworld? I think that would be delicious revenge for El’Hakans unprovoked invasion of Earth. She’s coming to the 93 universe and she’s gotta land somewhere right? I don’t think Jake wants earth turned into a wasp hive so that’s probably not where she’s going to end up. Besides giving hakan an endless wasp army to deal with should keep him from scheming too hard in the immediate future.

Jeff McCulley

Considering Ell’Hakan’s home world, he has no regard for or understanding of people on a fundamental level. The only thing that matters to him is his own “story”. That makes him childishly easy to lead by the nose.

Kenneth Dennis

I'm probably wrong but I thought it was only Villy who couldn't force the blessing away. He would have to kill Jake. But Jake still has the option to willingly release it. I'm probably wrong but thats what I thought this entire time.

Yaldabaoth

Zog, ye have made damn good character with Ell Hakan! Such a fucking good Antagonist! We love to Hate the little Orange bastard 🤣 Makes the (future and past) smack downs all the sweeter!?

Jeff McCulley

They already gave up on killing Jake. Now the narrative is to weaken and discredit Villy.

ABTelford

Well I’m interested in seeing Jake’s response to this smug “apology”. And the Vipers! It was also fun to see Carmen and Caleb teach Jake how he’s just accidentally flirted with a dragon princess. lol!

Cj Evans

It'll be interesting to see snippets of his homework future- and if that's going to be taken into consideration. When Eversmile's Chosen (ex or how Heretic- Chosen? ) was there, he saw a planet full of people with broken and completely superficial karmic threads. It seems EH's bloodline ability destroys karmic threads when used to make himself appear likable.

Jeff McCulley

I seem to recall that Earth already has some infestations that could use her influence to control. Boy, are they going to be in for it. “Oh, you’ve met my daddy?”

Jeff McCulley

“Doesn’t do all that much”? He’s going right down the path to slaughter Villy wants him on.

Jeff McCulley

Just being “incapable” and failing to respond is exactly what Villy wants him to do.

Cj Evans

Valdemar is probably the only one that would find it hilarious. I don't see the other Primordials liking it at all, and wondering why Villy even puts up with it. Also, Jake is simple- he's not going to get a girlfriend unless that person "sees" Jake- not his title(s) or his bloodline. Like Carmen, and (possibly? ) Artemis. He's also not going to do something complicated like user the shroud to "leave Villy". That's not his path. Plus, at this point, Valhal hasn't really shown anything that would interest Jake- he's a Hunter and an Alchemist. Hunter... sure... but does Valhal even have Alchemists? There haven't been any mentions of anything resembling that profession. Just Fighters of every kind.

Hayden Leech

“well I showed off the multiverse” —-> showed off to the multiverse

Cj Evans

Both are correct, though I think the reason no one knows Jake and Villy are friends is because no one understands it. Not only does it look like the gods don't have friends (only allies and opponents) but the multiverse as a whole can't see two people of vastly different power levels being friends.

Corwin Amber

This is why EH doesn't have any real friends. Or even know what that means. As if Jake would ever bale on his best buddy. EH remains a dumbass. :)

Cj Evans

They may make C grade, and Maira make it as far as Caleb, but I don't think the parents will go beyond that. It's already been stated their mindset is still pre- system, so while they adjusted, they don't have the necessary mindset for immortality, and gaining Ranks is more than a numbers game. They just won't have the Records. Dunno about Caleb, but out of the family, I think only Jake will make Godhood barring any freak accident.

TKOva

Jake is gonna drink himself into a stupor. Yelling I hate these peopleeeeeee. And the viper is gonna be laughing his ass off. Guaranteed.

TSMS

EH is plenty heretical. Sure, he currently goes along with Yip's plan and now tries to convert Jake in order to weaken Villy. Though I don't think he does that out of conviction toward Yip, but because it serves him as well. Didn't he already make plans to ditch Yip, if things don't work out?

TKOva

He literally said he got back much more than he invested.

John Balman

Hahahaha they are so close but still have no idea how truly unique Jake and the vipers relationship truly is

Numbzy

I mean Valhalla probably has alchemist. It might not be a focus for them, but they are around. I would assume that they have the full suite of professions that you would see in any organization large enough. Also I could 100% see Jake using shroud try to trick most people that he's joining Valhalla. The problem with it is there are people who can see through the shroud. Not many, but they do exist. And that could possibly ruin the entire effort and make it backfire.

Alex Cox

Jake showing up with his 'ladies': "Here's my secretary(Miranda), my neice(Sylphie), my stalker(Scarlet), my honeypot(Carmen) and my car(Sandy)"

TKOva

He'd leave more for the pantheon of life than Valhal

TKOva

Nah I think Jake and Caleb are for sure going the distance in the family. And Jake's Nephew will too. Caleb's wife sure as fuck won't though. Sadly she was great when I we met her.

Cj Evans

Ah, Thewalterwhite pointed out something that is being quite overlooked, possibly because Villy is the only God to know (not including Nevermore here) of Jake's Heretic-Chosen status. The blessing is permanent as of getting that title: it mentioned in the description that Villy can't take it back, and Jake can't lose it. If the other gods knew of this, the whole stealing of Chosen would not only be not on the table, but they would probably ask at destroying Jake if they realized what that would mean. Jake and Villy are friends, so there's benefits to his title. But if EH became a Heretic? He could easily destroy YoY. William...probably not, but he now gets all the benefits of being Eversmile's Chosen with none of the downsides, plus Eversmile also gets no benefits from William since he walked away from the Primordial. Does anyone honestly think the other gods would go for that? Not Valdemar, definitely not the Holy Mother and certainly not the Blightfather. Give away power for absolutely nothing in return? Not a chance. The only reason Villy gets anything is because Jake's his friend and friends share.

Cj Evans

Actually, EH probably did this for himself. The gods can't see into the hall, so it's not like anyone is being told what to do on a moment by moment basis. Just orders at the beginning and that's it. EH is setting up for him going against Villy, but not Jake, while making it so that he can leave YoY if it proves prudent for him to do so. He's already hinted at not being loyal to Yip, only following out of currently aligned goals...whatever that may be.

Jordan

Wonder if there will be a plan to reveal his heretic chosen status at some point to lure Yip into a trap. Would also be amusing if El joined the heretic path😂

Numbzy

Here to me still hoping that there is a full on revolution on EH's planet. He gets back and has absolutely no control over anything and everything has gone to s***.

Cj Evans

I think that is the line that points out that lack of understanding by EVERYONE in the multiverse- it's not that Jake's faith is thin, it's that Jake doesn't have any faith to begin with. He doesn't worship, and has never worshiped Villy. Even his idioms that replace the term God with Villy are more in Jest than worship.

Cj Evans

You're both assuming that was on purpose, rather than just not knowing what to say.

Cj Evans

I wouldn't mind creating one of those with Zog's input.

Olof Karlsson

Thanks for the chapter!

Master Helvar

Im excited for a fight between patrons and chosen but at the same time seeing jake tell villy to hold my beer and earn the godkiller achievement would be great. Just more proof as to how hes on a different level

Mat

That is the brilliance of Zog’s characters. No one is 100% good or bad depending on which lens you use to view them with. Although Villy is bad news for most in the multiverse and he didn’t change his core values. The Holy Mother once told Jacob that personal she looked forward to Villy’s return but for the multiverse she was sure. The change in the Order is of mindset of those following him which most of the time he do not care about or allow them to be who ever they want to be as his path is about power through freedom. Destroying 10% of the multiverse is just the last major thing he did before seclusion and multiverse new factions and Gods just relates him to that. Yip is targeting Villy not because he is evil, no it because he thinks he is the weakest Primordial(reasonable assumption). To justify that he needs to paint Villy is the evil that needs to be removed from the multiverse and get records to power him to do just that.

William WIlson

No if Ell’Hakan was plenty heretical then Jake's path wouldn't be so unique. Also at the end of book 8 it is made pretty clear that Ell’Hakan is a basic chosen not a heretic at all. Also it's only because of Jake's Bloodline that he can be a Heretic-Chosen according to Nevermore herself. He also didn’t make plans to ditch Yip of Yore but to spread his Bloodline within the church to in return get a strong healer from them. Which she was considering she has the 11th spot for the era. I'd also argue that this was all due to Yip telling him to.

William WIlson

William is a Chosen turned heretic, unlike Jake who is both William is only 1 at a time. Jake's path is only possible due to his Bloodline because it is reliant on Jake treating villy as an equal. This is explained by Nevermore herself, yes a god can try and be friends with their Chosen but if the Chosen can't do the same then a path like Jake's cannot exist.

Mat

“More than invest in a powerful initiate he might have got something more, a friend”

Anthony Smith

With Vesperia in the 93rd universe he could have the largest force in the sole universe. Every insect creature at her command is insane. Also the benefits earth will have from it will be huge.

William WIlson

I don't think that is at all part of the story. Yes it is interesting but I think Vesperia has a bunch to deal with on Earth before anything else. I mean not only are there termites to take care of but some wasps that are mentioned in book 3 when Jake's hunting with hawky. I'd also imagine there are ants and plenty more. Personally I Vesperia will build a Hive on Earth and Earth will become the only planet in which the multiversal enemies live in peace because of Jake. Earth being to important to just bail on because not only will Jake become a god Arnold eron Carmen and Sylphie will all become God's. I think Jake will make a Pantheon that rivals the Primordials. I also think this is a big part of Eversmiles experiment.

Dominick Gelardi

I just realized that something I love about this series is that most of the time the MC finds out about the schemes at the same time we do. Rather than us knowing that the MC has some plot afoot with some vague allusion to how things won't go the way we expect, both we and the MC are somewhat clueless until we're told what the heck is going on. I find that refreshing

Aerlevsedi

Now it's been awhile so I might be remembering wrong, but I think Jake and villy can end the heretic chosen thing if they both consent/try its just neither can do it alone. Also, if there is any God other than villy willing to have a heretic-chosen it's gotta be valdemar (or for Jake specifically Artemis could be an option too).

Phwoar

This sinking ship has beer and a cool lizard as the patron, idk man sign me up

Hayden Leech

I think vesperia on earth would result in vesperia either limiting her path and her hive by not expanding as much as possible or she would eat the whole planet. Which Jake wouldn’t want/allow. Jake wouldn’t want either of those. She can visit but I bet her hive will be elsewhere.

Chloe

I'm thinking when Jake is just into A grade and Cheeto is still in B. It's a short fight and if Jake needs to back up Villy against yore, well done and done.

kingofshibainu

So, how will Jake thread the heretic chosen path in responding to the orange butthead? Let's find out on Monday!

Decibel790

I can't wait to see EH's realization that Jake's been a heretic all along lol. Thanks for the chapter!

Benjamin Mages

William was never a Chosen, he had a Greater blessing IIRC. He forsook the blessing but that doesn't necessarily make him a Heretic either. Unless it's kind of an unofficial one.

Vega

If it was primarily about the ROI, it wouldn’t have been a True Blessing at F? grade, and he would’ve put a hard stop to Jake fighting the King, as opposed to just discouraging it. Can’t get a return if ya boy dies before the Tutorial’s end. Anyway the comment was just to say I like how their relationship isn’t just transactional

Amazon Shopper

Jake:"I would like to make an announcement, anyone with a positive association with Yip or Yore 1 year after this meeting, will never have access to my help or abilities as the Harbinger of Primeval Origins. This includes factions like Valhal who currently have positive ties. Don't believe the words of El'Hakkan the Manipulator, he has a bloodline that allows him to influence the emotions and beliefs of those around him. That is all" Boom, problem solved

Jeff McCulley

Put a hard stop to Jake fighting the King? Lol, no. You didn’t notice that Villy was all about letting people do what they want to do? That was a gamble. If Jake won, great. If he lost? Well shit, but that’s on Jake.

Jeff McCulley

A. Most factions don’t give a rat’s puckered behind about Jake Juice—including (or especially) Valhal. B. There’s already a plan in place. Or didn’t you notice that? C. Jake doesn’t dictate. His whole schtick is to allow others to do what they want to do. He and Villy are simply arranging to eliminate certain options. Better all the way around.

Jeff McCulley

We’d have to wait lots and lots of books for Jake to get powerful enough for that. Lots and lots and lots! Books, not chapters. I’m not that patient. And the whole point is for Villy to get more powerful…

Jeff McCulley

No revolution, he’s taken that initiative away from them. Liberation? Emancipation? Now, that’s a different story.

Henscratch

Nice. Technically, she’d be a liaison-with-benefits. I feel Irin is closer to how some saw geishas. She’s a professional with the accepted option to sex, with the full range of emotional connection possibilities on an individual basis (detached user>>deep friendship). He’s a resource for her. He’s fine with that since they both have other pursuits.

Anthony Smith

As satisfying as that would be I don't see Jake drawing a line like that. Jake also has a tendency to befriend or shrug off past enemies. EH is a fun character because he could be Jakes bane or his savior. Either making him lose control or helping him gain back control.

Jeff McCulley

“Ell’Hakan could easily destroy Yip”? Umm…nope. EH isn’t going to kill Yip. Jake isn’t going to kill Yip. Jake isn’t going to kill Eversmile. The first one, never. The second one would be “not anytime soon”—except for the fact that Villy is going to beat him to it. The third is just plain a “nope”. Anytime, any when.

Numbzy

I mean Jake isn't much of a liberator, he is all for empowering people to do it themselves. So Jake absolutely will not show up to help them. But give them the proper motivation or hope to do so.

Numbzy

William is a heretic. When Jake turned him into one, Jake got a notification saying that he had converted a follower of a primordial into a heretic.

Jeff McCulley

Nah. You missed the obvious. His response is going to boning Artemis, because at least she and that makes sense. Unlike all of these other people.

Peter Smith

Actually it would make it more complicated, because even to have the most minor ability to control others around you is considerably powerful. So many others who didnt know at the time about his bloodline would start seeking to gain it somehow. Mostly because power is the only redeeming factor of most of the world, and being known as a bloodline patriarch would give EH a lot of safety as others would try to protect him just for his powers alone. Remember the reason why Jake hasnt mentioned his full powers is for the same reason.

Jeff McCulley

“Jake had indeed spotted a certain dragon in human form throw glances their way as the Disciple of the Heartsoul Daolord tried to take her attention away from Jake and Carmen talking.” I feel like we now have another member of Meira’s little “Women who have survived meeting Jake” club, or whatever it was called. I may have to go back and look…

j

Confirms the 2nd place Cheeto Ego and Yip severely misunderstand the relationship of this particular Heretic Chosen and his Patron. That's gonna be a real nut kicker that I'm looking forward to, Villy will just be all "Him being my chosen was just a convenient way to accelerate my FRIEND, Jake Thanye, to the level of a God. I have viewed him as an equal ever since he first appeared in my realm and brought me out my long slumber."

im Panda

It's always a little funny that the "Heretic-Chosen" thing is so under wraps.

Henscratch

It’s always been “Godhood or death” mentality for Jake from the beginning with the blessing a useful means to his end. This is the point his enemies THINK he’s at and are hoping to capitalize on. The heretic-chosen class made it officially part of his path, so he essentially made an all-in bet early on unbeknownst to all but Villy. Beyond that he technically had a smallest loophole of switching gods in the worst case that Villy died…however unlikely. With his last upgrade, even that option is out. From a system-legal standpoint he is fully locked in with Villy until godhood regardless of emotional or life-drama shifts because it’s an essential part of his path which is still valid and workable even posthumously. To pair with another after unlikely death, he would have to betray not Villy but HIMSELF on a fundamental level, destroying his path first to switch sides (technically an option, I guess…a horrible horrible option). It would be like asking for “help” …with his power, resources and mentality? Remember your path becomes a representation of a person’s whole self…their morals, how they see themselves, how they see and interact with the world. Any loyalty changes goes against who he is as a person. His convictions are so solid that when the system makes it official, it’s easy for him to accept and move on without a hitch…something the fickle masses would be bewildered of if they knew. It’s basically Jake saying, if Villy dies, I’m good..I’ll just make it to godhood on my own, thanks.” And the system acknowledges this.

evan maples

If jake ever has kids i hope its with carmen because who knows what kind of bloodline shenanigans will happen between jake and carmen maybe a mutated version of primal hunter that evolves into something berserker related

William Feitosa

Jake’s heretic-chosen blessing says that it can never be broken unless one of them dies or Jake becomes a god

BumAssBumAss

Can't wait for next week for some divine shenanigans

Gavriel

I do find it funny that no matter how much the terrible yappers overthink it, they still refuse to believe in a simple friendship.

MacMahon Wenzl

If the Viper gets bonuses from Jake being his chosen then by Jake gaining power, the Viper gains power. That is not what I would call a "sinking ship". So miss guided...

SqrlyGrly

Bees and wasps are different from many insects in that they work together with other species iirc

SmokeJam

Well would be kinda weird to worship your drinking buddy, wouldn't it.

ABTelford

“So, since he thought a chosen is just a puppet of their patron, that means that is all he is - a yip puppet. I feel sorry for the guy. So much potential…” shake of the head. “Wait, does that mean Yip of Yore actually has a thing for the viper? - dude, don’t get me involved in your bromance!” 😜

Ty Cooper

She doesn't have a bloodlines too mutate with. She would need to aquire one first. Then it is totally possible

TSMS

Jake's Path is unique, because he sees Villy as an equal. Other mortals are inherently unable to see themself equal to gods. That doesn't mean other blessed / chosen cannot act heretical. Here's EH's thoughts about his deal with the Holy Church: "Anyway, his decision to enter talks with the Holy Church had been quite a good decision if he said so himself, especially when one considered the further implications of their deal… because to obtain his Bloodline, he naturally had to be alive, and for the best results, they wanted him to get as strong as possible before he would pass on the Bloodline. This naturally meant they had a vested interest in keeping him alive, earning him quite a good ally… and a backup plan in case the winds of change did not favor his current Patron and Yip of Yore failed his grand plan." Sure, the deal was to have the priestess on his team and give the church access to his Bloodline. But he also sees his connection with the Holy Church as a way to continue his Path, if Yip's plan fails. Even if we assume Yip "failing his grand plan" means Yip dying... I would argue EH thinking he could outlive his Patron is already heretical. It also explicity states it was "his (EH's) decision" to make the deal with the Church not Yip's.

Ty Cooper

We all hate EH so much. EH is either making me cringe or filled with hatred. Great antagonist

Numbzy

Vesperia could 100% settle on earth without limiting her path. Much like Jake, she would use it as a home and place of rest while operating abroad.

MilkTheShark

Chosen of Yap of Yore amirite. This guy just keeps on yapping.

James Evans

didn’t EH and Yip just kill their own story by basically stating themselves it can be wrong?

Jaydan Man

Right now I think Villy is the weakest Primordial. Powerscaling is messy when you are working with infinity. I think before his seclusion, he was the top dog, but when he went into seclusion, he stopped growing as fast as the others and 80 eras later, they have overtaken him. Any 1v1 with powers that high is situational, based on location surrounds etc but I think Villy loses High Diff if its neutral vs most primordials. Honestly, Villy wants to take down Yip and take his power to re-take his position as top dog God.

Samantha Sandlin

It feeds into the idea that the Malefic Viper is so evil that even his Chosen left him so Yip killing him would be a good thing. Unfortunately for Yip, he really isn't the one writing this story and I look forward to the time he realizes it.

CuteNCudlyToo

didn't the termite one have a king that wasn't a drone? or am i overestimating his level of autonomy?

Numbzy

Not just divine shenanigans, we also have mortal reactions too. I can't wait for Vesperia, Arthur's, and Miranda's reactions especially.

Inv7ctus

I fucking hate that slimy cheeto. Bastard needs to be taught a lesson.

JJB4345_80_815

I think that it was the end of book 4 when Villy describes the devastation that was wrought upon the 7th era because of a faction kidnapped his child due to his child having a bloodline. I could be off by a book or two but I do remember that it was at the very end. His return and killing of another god was I think in the second book but again, I could be off by a book.

JJB4345_80_815

It's never been done before, so I would say that it is HIGHLY unlikely but with Jake being a super anomaly I can't completely rule it out. For everyone through 93 eras an individual can only have a single blessing by a god. It doesn't even matter what type of blessing (true, divine, greater, minor, lesser et al) a person can only have 1 blessing.

Deborah martins

Don't forget that in the description Jake will lose everything associated with the Viper if he gets rid of it.

JJB4345_80_815

Villy had a conversation with Jake during his Chosen reveal party, right after Yipper crashing, that Yipper understands that he most likely will fail BUT he won't stop trying because no one can advance without taking a risk. Yippee is willing to risk his life in order to achieve the power of a Primordial.

Cj Evans

Yeah, so he's a Heritic Diciple then it's back in 800's i think 808, but William is considered a Heratic by the System, which gained him freedom from Eversmile, though he seems to have lost the teachings. My guess is the teaching refers to tutelage from the Primordial.

Cj Evans

Destroy does not nessissarily mean kill. After all, what ever caused Villy to remove himself from the multiverse could be said to have Destroyed him.

MrCynical

William went there and saw the messed up karmic threads because of EH fuckery.

Acaeluse

But what if it acted funny with Valdemars blood that she received.

Kevin

Bloodline mutations are completely unexplained. Given the level of independence between bloodlines and the system, records might have no effect on bloodline mutations, or they could be extremely significant. It’s really up to Zogarth.

Kevin

I don’t like the idea of genociding the entire Nahoom planet because of El Hakon, and I’m pretty sure Jake would be against that too.

Jmc mc

Their entire strategy is based on a misunderstanding of Jake's relationship with his drinking buddy. I love it.

Kevin

I take issue with you saying Villy wants him on a path of slaughter. Villy does not want Jake to walk the same path as him, and he almost unilaterally refrains from suggesting or persuading Jake into any decisions related to his path.

Kevin

I respect your opinion, but I personally like their interactions. It adds more to their conflict and it makes it more interesting for me. I’d also like to point out that their conversation prior to this one was a complete win for Jake. He handled El Hakon perfectly during their interaction in nevermore city. I also don’t think El Hakon is the “Antithesis” of Jake.

Kevin

I don’t think the broken threads are related to the bloodline. I figure they’re just a product of lies and propaganda.

Josh George

I'm excited the these chapters! So much intrigue!

Kevin

It has been exactly 615 earth days since they entered nevermore. That was confirmed with the nevermore leaderboard countdown.

Kevin

I think he will eventually defect. Jake is with Villy to the end, but El Hakon has already made arrangements with the Holy Church, and he isn’t willing to die with yip. I would love to see a 180 where instead of Jake leaving Villy, El Hakon abandons Yip of Yore cementing him as a failed legend.

Ben

I think they’re trying to raise jake up out of the vipers shadow by saying that a chosen is just a puppet but jake could be something more, so they’re not really against jake but against the viper instead (the puppet master if you will). But they don’t realise that villy and jake are just bros so don’t share the conventional chosen contract of the chosen being an avatar of the gods will.

Kevin

Considering Ell’Hakan’s home world, he has an extraordinary understanding of people on a fundamental level. He single handedly concurred and manipulated an entire planet’s worth of people. He has shown an unparalleled ability to manipulate and control people (Just take Arthur for example). He was even able to make a unique lifeform centered around devouring and destruction stop and sign a contract to work with him. He is definitely only interested in his own “story”, but he has so far been able to navigate around essentially all stumbling blocks. Currently it looks like he is going to fail because of several never seen before impossible to predict bloodline related unique Jake abilities.

Garry

Does he really have an 'extraordinary understanding of people on a fundamental level'? Or did he cheese his bloodline over and over again against people who lacked the tools to resist him? You seem to believe that EHK is some savant at manipulation when to me it looks like he abused the hell out of his bloodline and lacks an innate understanding of people and ignores anything that doesn't align to his own biases. EHK's bloodline gives him an insight of the emotional status of those around him and allows him to push and pull those emotions to suit his needs. Considering how often he uses his bloodline when manipulating people, it is very easy to see him using it as a crutch when dealing with people instead of truly understanding them. Also, you're attributing accolades to him that his bloodline is responsible for, e.g the Unique Lifeform working with him. He didn't get a devourer to work with him cos he is some charismatic savant who knows the minds and hearts of all, he got him via abusing his bloodline. Even then their relationship was purely a basis of benefits, there was no true loyalty there, that Unique Lifeform would turn on EHK the moment he has no use to him. Does that sound like EHK has an 'extraordinary understanding of people on a fundamental level' to you?

Mat

@Jaydan, Villy is lagging behind as far as records is concerned as he has not got as much as the active Primodials in the last 82 eras. In that regard he can be considered the weakest of the Primodials but does not say anything about who would win in a fight ( he said so to Jake just after Yip interuption of the ceremony and remember Snappy's statement on Duskleaf being weak yet a dangerous god).

Jonathon Corralejo Levotch

I enjoy how you write both yip and his chosen. Makes me really want to read their demise…

Adam Birch

I love how no matter how much Villy and Jake tell people they're just buddies who like to hang out, nobody can really comprehend it.

TSMS

I am still in search for the chapter, where Villy's meltdown before his seclusion is described. So far, I haven't found it. But I just reread Jake's alchemy session with Villy and Duskleaf right after the tutorial. Villy explains that he has the skill "Partial Omniscience", which gives him access to knowledge and that he got the skill just a few eras back. That means he got stronger even during his seclusion. We also know from Jake how you first do something and then get offered a skill related to that something. Villy spent his time in seclusion to gain enough knowledge to be offered a skill that basically lets him know something about any subject. Just because the other Primordials interacted more with the multiverse doesn't mean they progressed faster. It actually feels like Villy has changed the most. Do we know of any change in any of the other eleven Primordials in the last 80+ eras? They seem pretty static.

William WIlson

No it wouldn't because her Hive isn't limited to being a single Hive. Vesperia being the true royal can set up or go to any wasp or bee Hive and that is her Hive period. Think of Vesperia like the director of the fbi, yes she will have a main Hive somewhere in the Endless Empire, but just because the director is based out of DC doesn't mean they can't go to a smaller state branch and it not be the fbi and for them to not be in charge. Vesperia is basically the boss of all wasps and bees in the multiverse which makes every Hive her Hive by default.

William WIlson

The only way to break or end Jake's heretic Chosen path is for either Jake to die or for Jake to become a god. Also it would probably have to be villy killing Jake because other gods won't dare kill a Chosen of a Primordial.

William WIlson

Disciple is the same as chosen which is what Eversmile offers in book 2 when he revives him. We see it again in Meira and Duskleaf.

William WIlson

I think you missed his point. Yip of Yore walks a story telling Path. So if his Chosen was to suddenly become a Heretic-Chosen it would definitely impact Yip. I don't think anyone is saying eh could fight him and kill Yip but if Yip legend falls apart from to many adaptations his path will suffer to the point of no one believing he's a God level character and because that's what the majority believes it would be true for Yip. Remember the only reason he is looked at as being so strong is because he survived a duel with Valdemar.

William WIlson

Disciple is a Chosen. It's covered a few times in the books, mainly book 8 Arthur's intermission close to the end.

William WIlson

I don't think William is a heretic disciple but just a heretic of Eversmile. Heretics keep access to skills and the path of said God. So the difference between William and Jake is Jake is still taught alchemy by both Duskleaf and the Viper and that part of his Path can't be removed. William still has the path but it's not like Eversmile is giving advice or helping William understand Karmic magic anymore. Although I don't think that is the end of William and Eversmiles path together. Remember William has a Karmic curse laid upon him by Jake when Jake killed William. So I think most of the William story since we've seen him resurrect is actually Eversmile helping William overcome the Karmic curse and while Eversmile didn't expect his dear disciple to become a heretic he would undoubtedly be alright with it to break that curse. Which is why William couldn't evolve or find his path without Jake helping him to a different path the path of a heretic. Mis Kim is also helping him with changing his path from being a straight up murderer to someone more controlled.

William WIlson

Of course Ell’Hakan has no friends he is a conqueror, he only has rivals or followers. Think of Ell’Hakan speaking about Jake and the Fallen King doing Nevermore together and how he would have loved controlling the Unique Lifeform but couldn't overcome the inherent pride of a unique Lifeform. Ell’Hakan doesn't even understand the concept of equals while Jake can't accept someone being superior he can recognize an equal like the sword Saint the Fallen King and even villy.

Cj Evans

No, it is mentioned in 808 that William is a Heratic. I think that turning from one's patron alone isn't what grants the title heratic, but in purposely keeping the path and teachings but not going with what the patron says. Like you'll follow the rules of the Holy Church, but won't do what it tells you to do (like commit suicide or fight the Risen 'cause your best friend is one). For a person without a blessing it's no big deal: for a person with a blessing they would be considered a Heratic since they are/ were recognized as following a path as set out by their god.

Jeff McCulley

Jake having kids with Carmen…OMG. You might not have noticed, but Carmen isn’t exactly the “Mom” type. With that damage, doubt she ever has kids with anyone. Though maybe she and William could have a good group therapy session with his therapist… Not a good match for Jake anyway, aside from the occasional f***buddy. As she literally just said…

Jeff McCulley

Time, I don’t think he’s going to live long enough to ever see that, let alone “realize” it.

Jeff McCulley

Yeah, what Cynical said. It isn’t Jake that would do the liberating, but whomever sent William. Though if that was Miranda, it still might be “Jake’s people” doing the job. The Sword Saint, for example, would jump in with both feet. On the other hand, “liberating” in this case probably wouldn’t mean a war, but repairing and reversing the karmic damage EH has done.

Jeff McCulley

I dunno about the first, but I’m expecting Jake to get levels if EH abandons Yip. Lotsa levels

Jeff McCulley

Well, William is basically still following the karmic path, but basically said “F*** you” to Eversmile himself. EH abandoning Yip would hurt Yip slightly—not even close to destroy—in the short term, but Yip would just shift his narrative. And I’m pretty sure that EH is the one who wouldn’t enjoy THAT particular tale. Unless he likes being roadkill. Good thing Villy is planning to play God Eraser.

Cj Evans

Because EH is Yip's Chosen, I think it would hurt him if EH leaves. It's one of the reasons why They are trying so hard to get Jake to leave Villy. And why Chosen are stated as being picked at A or S grade. With how unusual it is for so many Chosen of upper tier gods and primordials are in the new universe and Earth. Which may not seem unusual since all of Jake's group have at a minimum Divine blessings from their patrons. But is unusual in the context of the multiverse

Jeff McCulley

Looking back at Chapter 654, we now have a timer. “Nevermore Leaderboards (C-grade): 93rd Era. Leaderboard Opens in 615 Days” Assuming this held true, the leaderboard just opened today. Thus, Jake has been inside Nevermore for 615 days. Unless my math is rusty, that’s…100 days less than two years? Checked calculator, 115 days fewer than two full Earth years. The new era was perhaps open for 115 days at that point…….

Bradford McDaniel

Well I mean technically Jake's original goal was to one day defeat Villy

Nicholas

I would laugh so hard if Jake reveals the heretic-chosen side of his aura in the next second after the meting with Ell' Harken, just because of the implications of it. I think he has enough sway in the universe to hold onto life if anyone wants him dead because of being a heretic XD

Ty Cooper

So you think party is over now? I can't think of many left for him to talk to. Jacob and Bertram still haven't said anything to Jake yet. I'm not rushing, just curious. I am looking forward to the demon prince heart ritual. I just don't want Jake to use his demon lord heart, want him to do something crazy for Irin. Just want him to practice with the prince's ritual first.

Nick O'Gara

With Jacob stopping at an earlier floor and the church shuffling party's for the best results/el con deal. I doubt he made it on to the top 1000 leader board.

Chase Burton

Thanks for the chapter!

Tucker Glick

It’s hard to be become a heretic when you’re already a heretical choose when will EH learn.

TSMS

Add to that an additional year where the leaderboards were already open, but still hidden. Quote from Minaga's speech: "the Leaderboards have naturally been open for quite a while; we just decided not to show them. In fact, they’ve been open for about a year, but we have naturally kept them hidden"

MrCynical

Defeat. I don't think Jake currently has any desire or plan to kill his best buddy, but I'm sure he'd love being on equal footing to fight and defeat him. Just like he kinda promised to do with Valdemar.

Arven

I doubt it, I think you underestimate the importance placed on the veneration to Gods, and in particular Primordials, and especially the place it holds in some factions. While he would be fine inside the Order I think a lot would internally disagree with him but accept it as the will of their Patron. But for faction like the Holy Church his stand point put their whole system at risk and letting such a being continue on existing would be a liability that I doubt the Holy Mother would accept. I honestly think that while he could survive he would be restricted to a state similar to his last Creation, Vesperia, making him have to stay either in the base of the Order or in the new Universe so that he may stay safe, at least until he himself become a God.

blarper

So I just had a thought that I can’t want until Jake’s almost ready to become a god or S-grade or something and he can have the viper use his desolation stuff he used on the azure dragon guy and Jake will get some good records or something from it. Maybe eternal hunger eats some. Idk, seems like a cool scene. Also I was pretty high when I thought of this, still am. Happy Easter

Numbzy

I kinda want to see Jake make a statement. After EH's little show there, I want Jake to say the same thing he told him before Nevermore, "I told you before Nevermore, Your words are meaningless, speak with your actions!" Full willpower infused in his voice and said so the entire room can hear it. Maybe a POV or two of him saying it and their thoughts. I was personally thinking the Dragon Princess and the holy priest from EH's group for the POVs.

Numbzy

TSMS is correct. With a little napkin math, we should have just under 2 years until the Prima Event.

Numbzy

Let's not act like William wasn't crushed. Jake 10/10 hulk smash him into ground paste. He only got saved by Eversmile after the fact.

Jeff McCulley

What Arven said. That and the fact of the damage it would do to Villy in the eyes of his fellow Gods, that he allowed his own Chosen to be a heretic. At the very least, they would see it as eroding their own foundations.

Kevin

I disagree. Jake has already shown a lack of any form of veneration. He has openly mocked peak God’s like Miniga and clashed auras with Valdemar. I doubt the other peak Gods would really care much. I know Miniga, Valdemar, and Eversmile wouldn’t care. It also wouldn’t really affect Villy. You have to remember that after the holy church and the risen joined together and formed an all out crusade to wipe out the vampires due to the threat they posed, Villy decided to straight up offer the vampires amnesty and protection. That event is easily far more threatening than having one highly unique chosen not venerate his patreon. Also, even if the holy church and or Risen took it as a threat, I doubt Villy would care. He and Jake would probably welcome the conflict.

Alex

Well, Jakes last "exercise" partner was a literal goddess, so Aisha has a high bar to pass if she wants to be more than friends.

kapat

Elly is tryna get Jake to just up and abandon his best bud ☹️
