CW: Sexual Abuse, Rape

I want to keep talking about this issue since no one else is. I think because it's a taboo subject. Women are being abused/raped every day. Since I've only scratched the surface, I may do another Black Label episode on the porn industry down the line. The percentage of pornography created through sex trafficking is unknown but I'd wager the number is staggering.

The porn filmmakers of GirlsDoPorn has recently been charged with sex trafficking.

"SUMMARY OF CHARGES

Counts 1-3 (charging Pratt, Wolfe and Garcia)
Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud and Coercion, 18 U.S.C. § 1591(a) and (b)(1)
Minimum penalty: Fifteen years in prison; Maximum penalty: life in custody, $250,000 fine.
Count 4 (charging all defendants)
Conspiracy to Commit Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud and Coercion, 18 U.S.C. § 1594
Maximum Penalty: Life in prison, $250,000 fine.
INVESTIGATING AGENCY FBI"

From what I've read the patterns fits exactly what was discussed in the Black Label episode.

"Some of the women were pressured into signing documents without reviewing them and then threatened with legal action or outing if they failed to perform; some were not permitted to leave the shooting locations until the videos were made; family and friends and the general public eventually saw the videos online; some victims were harassed and ridiculed and estranged from their families as a result; and some were sexually assaulted and in at least one case raped. Some were forced to perform certain sex acts they had declined to do, or they would not be paid or allowed to leave."

At the time of writing this, owner Michael James Pratt has fled the country.

"One day, I answered an ad for “beginmodeling.com” and after that, my life would never the same. From the minute Johnathan contacted me, I was lied to repeatedly, manipulated, and coerced into filming. A fake website, fake references from “past models”, the entire premise is a lie. They don’t have to convince you to shoot an adult film, they just have to convince you to fly to California and they’ve already won. "

Talk about it. Get the information out there. A few years ago, I thought sex trafficking was a dark nasty business that only happened in the squalid streets of far away places like Indonesia. Ridiculous, right? Props to you for talking about it. Knowledge is power. Knowledge can save lives. I hold great respect for you and your podcast series. You’ve got a good heart, it’s easy to hear it in how you share delicate and disturbing information.

Call me cynical but it’s a bit of a coincidence issues such as the ongoing exploitation & abuse of women in the porn industry attracts virtually no attention from the wider community and media. Similar to how sexual assaults and physical attacks on sex workers & the homeless community fail to get a mention in a local paper let alone on the nightly news. We continue to see marginalised people from lower socio economic & cultural backgrounds be subjected to exploitation, violence & abuse while main stream society, police and governments turn their backs and encourage a victim blaming mentality. All to support their discriminatory policies and ultimately line their own pockets.

"... and some were sexually assaulted and in at least one case raped." Seriously, what is the difference between sexually assaulted and raped?? Is that quote from the FBI?

I'm not 100% certain of this, but I believe that sexual assault refers to any kind of sexual conduct committed without consent, whereas rape refers to unconsensual sexual intercourse specifically. So all rape is sexual assault, but not all sexual assault is rape.

That reddit story was crazy. Sounds like people kept after her for years!! No shame but i would NEVER drink or smoke with strangers in a different state, especially if they were all Male but I'm a paranoid person anyway. You don't know what else they put in there and BAM!, you wake up in a different country being trafficked.

I don't know how you got Thibodaux right but mispronounced Houma. It's more like home-a. I can't help but to cringe a little every time I hear humma
