Hi Henry, I don't know if this is the kind of thinking you were after or not, but it seems to me based on this and other things you've said that this particular project has been different in a very important way: that you have actually been proud of and pleased to look at what you've done. One could speculate as to why that is, but one reason might be that it's completely free of some of the baggage that has come with other projects. First, you like the models but don't love them, so you're free of the levels of hope and expectation generated by models you love (we've all had the disappointing experience of a loved model not coming out as we dreamed in our mind's eye). Second, they're not FOR anything, such as a game that you intend to play, so they don't need to fit into a particular set of requirements and preconditions that you may feel are attached to other gaming miniatures. Third, you haven't been 'training' yourself in new techniques or pushing yourself to experiment, you've just been playing around with things you know to create something that you like the look of, so there's less pressure to critically evaluate and push the intellectual exercise (which can create distance from the project and kill enthusiasm). Fourth, you have spontaneously developed an unexpected connection to the LOV models by reading the lore and creating character stories, which has (perhaps) given you a different kind of positive feeling about them that you don't have for, say, things you have to paint to keep your ravening Patreon subscribers happy(!) Maybe some or all of these things have meant that you have an appreciation of or fondness for this project that is different to other armies/ characters that you've painted, hence the feeling of liking looking at your work. I would suggest that that is very important and that therefore you should carry on doing what you're doing with them: don't shelve them, don't turn them into a 'push yourself' project, just keep it exactly where it is and grow the army organically, including sticking with the lore and creating character back stories as you go. It's fun to create meaningful connections to your art and to be pleased with your work! (...and if you made it this far, thank you for attending my TED talk...! 😂).

Thanks Rob, what a great reply. And it was exactly this level of opinion I was after.
