I really appreciated your insightful analysis after the movie. Very good reaction. The scene where Rambo breaks down at the end always gets me. Interesting that you have had some experience talking to Vietnam Vets, giving you a lot of background on this subject. The next movies in the Rambo series are lacking a little something that this movie has a lot of, but they are all action blockbusters, especially the next one, which was a huge box office hit, much more successful than the first movie. Stallone had quite a year in 1985 with Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rocky IV. There was an issue with the frame rate in the reaction, your copy off YouTube was 1hr 29m? My copy was 1hr 33m and I had to keep pausing your reaction to keep the synch. Still was an unforgettable reaction.

I read the book years ago, and the movie is a fairly faithful adaptation. One small detail with major ramifications that is left out of the movie is that the sheriff is also a combat veteran, of the Korean War. So thematically, he is cut from the same cloth as John Rambo. Both men are hardened behaving as their military training would dictate. And the larger commentary of the book is something along the lines of ”look what the military and war does to people, look at what we ask of them”. The book is a bit heavier on the antiwar theme.

Miss Mary, in the 80's most people did not treat military soldiers well cause of certain politics and agendas . But now soldiers are treated very well .
