Would to love to have seen Tim Burton’s original vision of Batman Forever. The studio and him had a falling out. The studio did not like that he made it darker than both Batman and Batman Returns (the studio hired new writers for a new script to get the Batman Forever you just watched). They also did not like who he cast as Robin. The cast was originally was supposed to be Michael Keaton returning as Batman, Billy Dee Williams reprising his role as Harvey Dent and turning into Two-Face, Tim Burton was close to casting Robin Williams as the Riddler before the studio screwed up the preproduction, and Tim Burton cast a young Marlon Wayans as Robin. Like I said would have love to see that, but studio came in and screwed it up.

"Batman Returns" did not do as well as the box office like the first "Batman" had done. Warner Brothers was not happy about this and the feedback they got was that "Batman Returns" was considered "too dark". They insisted that Tim Burton lighten up "Batman Forever" and Burton refused to compromise. He left the project and once Joel Schumacher came on board, Keaton left soon thereafter. They originally were going to have Rene Russo play Chase Meridian and Robin Williams was very close to being cast as The Riddler when Tim Burton was still involved. Another actor who was considered for Batman/Bruce Wayne at the time was Alec Baldwin which seems silly now especially in light of recent events, but back then I could have seen it. However, Val Kilmer was cast and the part of Chase Meridian was recast with Nicole Kidman because the studio felt that Rene Russo was "too old" for Val Kilmer which I think was BS then and still is now. Another name who was considered for The Riddler whom I would have loved is John Malkovich. I think Warner Brothers was casting who they considered to be "hot" stars at the time: Kilmer had just come off "Tombstone" and "The Doors", Kidman had done a string of box-office successes, and Jim Carrey was a rising star. Tommy Lee Jones had also been very successful, but I never liked his portrayal of Harvey Dent/Two-Face because he was so over-the-top, like a poor man's Joker. Oh, another name who was considered to play Robin was a young actor named Leonardo DiCaprio.

I have always loved this film and is my favorite Batman film out of all of them. This was the first Batman film I saw in theaters when it came out. It's not great but it's not bad either. The Burton/Schumacher Batman films are just fun silly entertainment.
