Yes Shark detection system is one of the most highly advanced and effective in all of the ocean. They can detect the prey they are after from very far away. Which is why they are very hard to get away from once they zero in on you.

the footage of the actual sharks was shot in australia

This movie is why I am terrified of sharks. I love all four of them even if 3 and four are not good. I read the book the film is based on and it is very different and kind of scarier in a way. Because Peter Benchley describes in depth what the shark is doing under the water a lot of times. He cameos as the news reporter on the beach in the movie.

This movie scarred me for life lol

Amazing that this movie still hits so hard. Especially considering how much more we know about sharks now. Even the author of the book says if he knew then what he knows know he would not have even written it.

Very entertaining reaction Mary. So much fun watching you scream and sh!t yourself but to be honest I saw this as a young kid and had recurring nightmares myself for years. Just to let you know there is a sync prob on this one too. It’s running about a half second slow mate.

Hi i'm back. A few things about this film, which is my #2 favorite of all time: Many people in the cast who had smaller roles were locals who lived at Martha's Vineyard, where it was filmed. Lee Fierro, who played Mrs. Kintner (who slapped Brody), was asked by tourists for years to slap them. Sadly she died last year as a result of Covid. Mrs. Kintner was portrayed as an older mother. The man with her in the slapping scene was portrayed as her father. The real shark footage in the film was shot by shark experts Ron and Valerie Taylor of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. When Brody is typing up the shark attack at the beginning of the film, you can see that "coroner" is misspelled as "corner" twice. Quint's story of the USS Indianapolis is taken from the actual mission of that military ship and its crew. The mission had only been declassified a few months before shooting began. Robert Shaw wrote the monologue himself, after reading the original script and being dissatisfied with it. The scene of Ben Gardner's head appearing in the hole in the hull of his boat still scares the shit out of people (including YOU!). That scene was re-edited at the last minute because Spielberg wanted to get a massive scare out of the audience. Since production had already ended, it was filmed in editor Verna Fields' swimming pool. During any water scene, if you can hear the famous "JAWS" music, then you know the shark is there. If the music is not being played, the shark is not there. The reporter on the beach is Peter Benchley, author of JAWS, the novel the film was based on. When Quint and Hooper are comparing scars, you can see Brody lift up his shirt for a moment, then put it back down in embarrassment. He considered showing off his appendectomy scar, but decided at the last minute not to. In the 70s there was nothing unusual about smoking in a hospital. Doctors would smoke whilst delivering babies. The man who followed the mayor around and always backed him up ( "We never had that kind of trouble in these waters") was Carl Gottlieb, who was one of the screenwriters for the film. Jaws is THE film that launched the "blockbuster" phenomenon. Theaters were sold out and lines stretched around the blocks for this film. Many of the crew nicknamed the mechanical shark "Bruce." Roy Scheider hated the shark and refused to call it by that name. In the book Hooper and Brody's wife have an affair. Benchley was upset that his book and the film created a large amount of hatred toward sharks, and so he spent the rest of his life working to improve sharks' image.

Mary's reaction to Quint's death is a 10 out of 10.
