If you get technical, all three movies are about religion. The Ark of the Covenant is supposed to contain the two slabs that have the Ten Commandments on them. So it’s in the Bible. Temple of Doom deals with Indian faith. They mention the Goddesses Kali and Shiva. To me it makes sense for Indy to be a devote Christian. Considering his Dad was and he heard the Power of the Ark already. Being none religious back then was a really bad thing. Like it didn’t matter what your religion was back then. Just that you believed in something.

chicks dig me

Mary, what are your issues with religion and/or religion in movies?

Rusty Childers

The 4th movie is not as bad as people say.

Harrison Ford was my hero growing up. I always watched Indiana Jones more than Star Wars. I enjoyed the fourth film a lot and think people give it more hate than it deserves. Might be worth watching anyway because they are working on a fifth film with Harrison again. The fourth film still follows the formula of the classics but it was a newer movie so maybe it didn’t age well for newer audiences. People should just keep an open mind because even though you can relate to Indiana as a human, the films still follow a unique universe and mythical sources of power.

You might as well watch the 4th one. It’s actually mostly decent, but there are some dumb parts. I think the amount of time between the first three films and the fourth one was a major reason people didn’t like it. The first three are excellent, and the fourth one is decent but maybe a bit of a let down.

I enjoyed the 4th more than Temple...but I also disliked Temple enough that I wouldn't choose to watch it again for enjoyment. (It just didn't feel like it fit with the others, to me)

Nah the 4th Indy movie is a downer. It doesn't fit the style of the first three films, because of several issues. Namely, pacing, camera framing, cutting is worse imo. The humour doesn't stick. Also I didn't like the way CGI was implemented. I'm a huge Cate Blanchett fan, but frankly I didn't enjoy her performance in this one. I don't want to spoil the movie for anyone, but that's my opinion.

Btw: Insider tip for mystery/adventure movie lovers: Vibes (1988) with Cyndi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum. A film on a much smaller budget scale than Indiana Jones, but with so much charm! One of my top 10 feelgood movies of all time.

Robjgood

I can't really disagree with any of that. It can be a lot of fun if with a group of (drunk) friends who can enjoy a cheesy bad movie but as an actual Indy movie it is such a let down.

This was always my favorite. I even had the game on the NES.... Uh, I mean, The X-Box 4. No way am I old enough to have had an original Nintendo.... This was my grandads favorite movie. He got a "Surround sound" setup, and he would always put on that dog fighting scene with the plane to show it off. The soundtrack is really something else. Just, a cut above. That music during the boat scene is stand out, and even the music at the uh.... book signing scene. I probably have this movie memorized, scene by scene. I only had the first and the third ones as a kid. For many years, Temple of Doom was the missing link. Luckily, the movies don't really have anything to do with each other. I think Temple of Doom was set before the first one on the timeline anyway. I would say, don't feel like you have to watch Indy 4. I'm not sure what's on your list of movies to watch, but, there are lots of things better. I mean, if you want a Harrison Ford movie, you could do Blade Runner. Or The Fugitive. Or "Witness" if you like Amishsploitation. Sabrina is one of my mom's all time favorites with him, and "Morning Glory" is a silly comedy about him doing a morning show. Then there's Air Force One. As for Sean Connery movies, "The Rock" is pretty damn good. Highlander, Untouchables, Zardoz, The Hunt for Red October, Medicine Man, And an old one, Marnie. That's an Alfred Hitchcock one. ANY of those movies would be a better watch than Crystal Scull. Even Zardoz.

Of the three Indiana Jones movies, which one would you say was your favorite?

Whovian Prakash

Am I missing something or is there no UNCUT version of this reaction?
