He forgot to add the cooler in his screenshot, but add this: https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/Cooling/CPU-Coolers-AIR/79871-RR-212TW-16PW-R1/?member_pricing=true&fbclid=IwAR2NOfiCc9-fdx5ufGJFd11Cl_lnq264hgBFUg6N_FuKMRUsFZ_1HwiUlUw

this build also doesn't include monitor, mouse or keyboard

His build will cos 779+169+769+239+289+109+125+199+65 = $2743

Ok. My other option, which Mitchell Scott sent me over on Patreon (thanks) was this for $2,699.00: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/mwave-s509a-gaming-pc-rtx-2070-super-ac35747

it doesn't include mouse, keyboard or monitor either. it's ryzen 7, it's 16gb ram..

What do you guys think, honestly? :) THANKS!!!!

Good call on using Corsair for a power supply. You don't want to cheap out on that. I believe Seagate has had some issues with their hard drives in the past but honestly, I'm not that knowledgeable about that (I use Western Digital). As long as you don't cheap out on the motherboard or power supply (which you haven't), you should be good to go!

Not sure about anyone else but in my opinion that is way too much money for that! But im not in Aus, so not sure if that's compatible or not, I got better for 1780 dollars. But I got mine off amazon and I know you cant use amazon so could be the best you can get? Still might be cheaper to have someone in US buy you a computer and ship it to you? I could be really wrong if so i'm sorry.

Prebuilt looks OK to me, the CPU in the custom one is a little overkill for gaming IMO, you can always upgrade to 32GB down the road, when you need it, the games you wanted to play certainly don't, better to put the savings into a nice monitor and kb and mouse set, you might also want a xbox controller for games that can use one.

Ryan Ernst

You have two sets of Memory, SSD, and HDD listed in the price tally. Was that intentional?

Ryan Ernst

One other thing to add is Microsoft Windows 10 Home to your list unless your friend building the PC has a spare copy to give you

Alex

David's build is pretty balanced; I think you should go with it if it's within your budget. However, the prices listed are too steep imo. I've made a list on PCPartPicker to show what the best prices are in Australia. I got a total of $2418.28 AUD. https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/ayellowteapot/saved/#view=vdrW4D You can buy everything except the power supply on Amazon, but it will cost you around $80 more than if you buy them at the cheapest places respectively. You might save on shipping though. Keep in mind that the motherboard in the list doesn't include wifi. You will have to pay an extra $55 if you need that.

Alex

Sidenote: you can save $50 if you are willing to give up the RGB on the RAM.

Looks Awesome :) this build should be lasting for another 10 years or so, now.. its just missing a cool 27" Curved 240hz Gaming Monitor and THX 5.1 Surround Sound System for the Ultimate Immersive cinematic experience :D

Mitchell Scott

That Mitchell guy sounds like an idiot, don’t listen to him. 😂 In all honesty though, everyone who’s commented has really good points. If only it was simple..

Good choices with the PC specs! Yeah, building a PC is not cheap at all. I remember when I built mine a couple years back and mine was around $3k, not including mouse and keyboard.

Maybe wait till rtx 3080 and 3070 become more availible if you are not in a hurry. They are in the same price range as the rtx 20 series but deliver a lot more performance. That is what i would do if i was building a pc right now

Ryan Ernst

As for CPU cooling, found this article which compares several cooling options for the Ryzen 9-3900X including the Cooler Master Hyper 212 recommended by your friend. However, you should consider opting for a Noctua NH-D15 as it is much better than the 212 at a reasonable cost. https://www.windowscentral.com/best-cpu-coolers-amd-ryzen-9-3900x

Alex

The NH-D15 is a great cooler. I would make sure to get the chromax.black version though, the default brown/cream colour is pretty ugly imo.

Your parts are really powerful considering the list of games you're planning on playing! Which is not necessarily a bad thing. Just know that you should be able to play ANY modern game at fairly high settings with this PC if you decide to do so in the future.

I suggested going with a GTX 1660 SUPER for now as it will more than cover her current requirements at a significant cost savings over the RTX video cards. Then, upgrade a year or two later to a RTX 3000 series when they are less expensive and her gaming needs mature.

Well can't really add anything new judging from the other comments, only thing I would say is the processor is is a bit overkill (Ryzen 7 will do perfectly), and the 1TB of SSD is also a bit overkill. Your SSD should only be used for your Operating System and essential programs. The 2TB of HDD should be used for the rest of your media. As for the GPU, if you are going for the 2070 Super, which is a great card, you may as well wait for the 3070 or 3080 which should be out very soon if it isn't already!

Kevin T

For the Monitor I suggest at least 27" and at least 1440p. Since you do content creation you will want an IPS monitor (this is the panel type). Ideally you will want the monitor to provide frame rates above 60fps/hz, around 100fps/hz or higher is plenty. Monitors also can come with NVIDIA G-Sync or AMD Free-Sync compatibility, which allows the monitor to not have as many stutters in frames with games. Luckily NVIDIA cards are compatible with both of the "syncs". Personally I prefer UltraWide monitors, but they are a bit more of a luxury than a necessity, and are also a personal preference.

I think 1TB of SSD is fine because you also want to install the games on the SSD. Makes load times way faster and vastly improves the gaming experience. I agree that getting a 30XX card would be better value, but given how insanely hard they are to buy, it's probably not worth waiting several months to try and get one if you want to build a computer now.
