Out of these 2 I would go with Alien...but the Hobbit is a must since you LOTR

Nah, you should watch The God Father first it will be a good palette cleanser inbetween sci-fi movies

I’m going to be bold on this one and go away from these two options completely. Still in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy area, but the tv show “Firefly” is a must watch, followed by the movie about the same people called “Serenity”. There are a lot of laughs in the show, so I think it would break things up with how dramatic LOTR is and how very Sci-Fi SW is, plus the length & number of movies can be a bit much. I think you’d enjoy the break, then go into these other series of movies.
