I think that the conclusion to the Pain arc was beautifully done. It may have seemed bullshitty with the talk no jutsu, but I disagree and think that Kishimoto did a really good job with it. If Naruto would have killed Nagato, then he basically would have continued the cycle of hatred. Furthermore, I think it was really well done with Nagato being the inspiration for Jiraiyas first novel, which was prophesized by the Toad Sage and kinda flopped. Yet said novel was the key piece in the Pain Arc. It may have not been successful in reaching a broad audience and teaching them about the cycle of hatred, but he helped his students to overcome theirs.

I know the talk no jutsu thing is like a fandom joke but Naruto really does beat his opponents fair and square before talking to them. That's what I love about him. Fallen heroes all throughout this show. Also, that was like billions of paper bombs in the end there lol

I think he's darker here because he got scorched by the paper bombs. Or just an animation error. There was one line earlier by Madara to Konan about Nagato's rebirth jutsu, i don't know if you caught it, but it has implications for the upcoming dance.
