We definitely share your frustration with these flashbacks. And it isn't going to get better. 😴 I actually forgot that Karin met Sasuke during the Chuunin exam. Explains the blind crush in a way...I guess.

Yeah, it's really frustrating right now. For me it's the worst stretch of episodes, for like 30, until it gets really good again. They used to separate all the filler and canon pretty cleanly, so easily skippable, and went easy on the flashbacks until now.

I'm really glad you don't write Sakura off for this stuff tbh. Her feelings for Sasuke, although very shallow at the start, have changed quite a lot and I think for her AND Naruto it's not that they don't get that he's changed but it's hard for them to just take how different he is. They both feel like the Sasuke they knew is still in there somewhere and they want to save him from what he's become. She's made some bad moves this arc but she is still a kid. She's 15 or 16 years old and regardless of how smart she is, her emotional regulation is a bit off so she reacts in ways that an adult wouldn't. It's unfair to crucify her for acting as a teenager sometimes. She's generally very mature for her age but there's always gonna be things that show their age more than others. I remember being confused by the way she handled this upon first watch but I didn't ever hate her for it.

To answer your question: Don't know what you would classify as main character but for me Shikamaru or his dad would be the obvious choice as Hokage besides Kakashi or Naruto (Naruto in the future of course xD). Also I think a little more unpopular opinion would be Neji. We haven't seen many things of him but he is a Jonin so he must be very strong and he always seems like the strategic type of guy and I think you need someone strategic and experienced as Hokage. That's also why characters like Guy for me wouldn't be as good of a Hokage (not that I don't like Guy but I hope you see what I mean cause he often seems more emotionally driven than others). I'm only at 250 of Shippuden so I don't know if someone will offer something in the future that make them more Hokage-like for me xD

And about the Sakura situation: I don't dislike her but I can see why someone could. But I think she herself doesn't really now what she wants and what not and I kinda understand that she feels like she has been useless after the Gaara rescue and almost a burden especially after what Sai told her. Instead of wanting to do everything on her own she could have worked together with others or talked to someone to figure out what's the best thing to do but not basically charge in on her own. Even if you aren't gonna talk to someone else just train on your own and close the gap to Sasuke cause you know you have no chance against him rn. But I still think she maybe didn't believe that Sasuke really would be as evil as he is and I definitely think he would have killed Karin. But for me Sakura would be 5th on my female character ranking I think, after Tsunade, Temari, Hinata and 1 character you not really know yet. As said before I'm speaking 250 episodes in for me.

I am rewatching the series while you are first watching it. Don't worry if it is a crap episode, It is no worse than when I saw it for the first time. Imagine watching all of the filler.
