itachi transferred a TRAP, not his powers to sasuke. the translators did a poor job and make it seem like Itachi gave his brother his power but no. Not the case. He left behind the ability for Sasuke to obtain the Eternal Magekyou but that's it.

Well, it’s very possible (and probably likely) that would be the case but something that could never be said for certain however whether pretty much the entire clan would’ve ended up being annihilated can never be known which is the real kicker.

Itachi accidentally tripped and killed the whole clan. He's just clumsy :3 complete misunderstanding. Then he found a cool cloak and akatsuki thought he's a new member and itachi just went with it cause he gets a cool cloak.
