Learning the backstory's for the characters even if they are seen as villains makes the universe much larger. way more interesting when you can see both sides of the fights

I agree 100%. One of the great things about Naruto is that every “Villain” is almost justified in their actions. Gives such great depth to the show.

Kind of hard to direct you to this without spoilers so I'll try a link. You might be interested in seeing what the curse mark originally looked like in the manga: https://i.imgur.com/CT2EuNl.png . Fairly obvious why they ended up changing it for the anime, which had a much larger American audience, but in Japan, the manji is used to mark Buddhist temples, and the Hyuuga clan have a lot of Chinese traditional religious elements in their jutsu.
