Isekai literally means "different world", it's kind of a subgenre of fantasy anime where the MC get's transported into a fantasy world (usually one that's reminiscent of RPG games). I think Overlord is one of the better Isekais. Hope this is helpful.

It is an isekai, I'm not too far into the anime myself, most isekai's follow a formula but they still have uniqueness to them over others. Overlord is unique I think but I still prefer something like Re:Zero (another isekai) to it but it is still a popular anime and I will keep watching it. Also if you like the design of the main guy (skeleton man), you should check out the openings for The Ancient Magus Bride which has one of my favorite character designs ever!
