A note about recent patron payment declines (Patreon)
Content
Recently, I noticed the decline rates are getting slightly higher than usual and if this continues, it could put the entire Project Gender Bender in jeopardy. To put it into perspective, we've lost 56 patrons over the past 2 months and revenue has fallen by at least $200. For July alone, we're looking at a loss of up to $60 after paying out to all the translators.
I have just received an email from The Patreon Team regarding the recent payment declines and learned that the problem actually lies with changes in Patreon's payment system. The email from The Patreon Team is as follows:
An issue with a payment partner is causing a slightly higher-than-normal number of your patron payments to be declined by their banks. We've traced the increased declines back to payments system upgrades required by one of our processing partners. Patrons might see some payments declined while changes take effect.
If a patron reaches out to you about a decline, you can advise them to follow these steps:
1. Contact their card issuer to confirm the charge is valid and retry that card.
2. If the retry does not work, try a different payment method. Patrons can edit their payments in their Settings, under Billing History:
We’re deeply sorry about these interruptions and appreciate your patience as we work to resolve them.
