Chapter 8 - Inglis, 5 years old (4)

「Here I come!」

Raphael made a beeline towards Rahal.

It was a stride he made with everything he had.

Since his opponent was strong, he needed to muster an even stronger force to strike——that was the logic he used.

*That’s a bad move. He’s wrong*——Thought Inglis as she sighed.

This would end like any other before him.

「Naive!」

Rahal’s wooden sword easily stopped the strike Raphael had put all his power into.

If they were bare on their true abilities, that single blow should’ve pushed Rahal away.

「Guh…!」

「Kukuku! So the future hero is not a big deal!」

Rahal counterattacked.

Raphael reacted to that swordplay, but his body was dulled due to the sorcery.

That was why, when he tried to receive the attack with his usual timing, it was too late.

With his stance still halfway complete, he received a horizontal strike.

At that moment, his wooden sword was thrown out of his hand.

It flew to here——Or, precisely, towards Rafinha.

「Kyaah!」

「Rani!?」

「It’s okay.」

Clasp!

Inglis held her hand out and caught it midair.

「G-, Glizz. Dhank yuu…!」

Rafinha was all tears.

「Oh my, you were awesome Inglis!」

「Good heavens! Thank you so much, Glissy!」

Words of praises also came from Inglis’ mother and aunt.

「Rani! Glis! Sorry! You saved me there!」

「It’s nothing. Here, brother Rafa.」

Inglis returned the wooden sword back to Raphael who ran towards them.

「Thanks, Glis.」

「Um, brother. A bit of advice.」

「What is it, Glis?」

「You should avoid seeing him as much as possible during the fight.」

「Huh? What do you mean?」

「Something doesn’t sit right with me. Everyone’s movement is so slow. In contrast, Rahal is always moving to match his opponent. There must be something to it.」

In fact, there was indeed something. That was how Rahal used his sorcery.

But Inglis doubted he would swallow it if she told him that outright, and it would be troubling afterward too.

On the contrary, she judged that a suggestive phrase would serve her better.

「Fighting without seeing, huh. Indeed, my body feels heavy when I get close. …I got it, Glis. Thanks.」

After Raphael nodded, he went back to face Rahal.

「I’m sorry Rahal! Can I ask you to fight me again!?」

「Of course. We weren’t finished yet, after all. Either way, you won’t understand that you lost unless I beat the crap out of you, right?」

So he said, his eyes like a snake prying on the weak.

However, Raphael took the challenge unprovoked.

「…Here I come!」

Looking at the ground, Raphael rammed at Rahal without seeing him.

Since Rahal’s shadow was on the ground, Raphael used it as his reference to deliver his blow.

「 Mu…!?」

Rahal’s stance was broken with that blow.

Raphael’s current movement was unaffected by sorcery.

And if Raphael could exert his usual strength, Rahal would have a hard time receiving his attacks.

「It’s true…! Inglis was right!」

「Ugh… damn!」

Raphael kept pushing Rahal back until he was driven into the wall.

However, that turned out to be his undoing.

「Uooooh!」

Just as Raphael went in for the finishing strike, Rahal barely parried the attack.

Unable to stop his sword's trajectory, he struck the wall.

「Uwah!」

Since he kept his eyes on the ground, he didn’t notice the wall in front of him.

That resulted in his stance breaking, allowing Rahal to get a hit in.

「Haahahaha! An opening!」

「Gaah!」

「Match over! Rahal won!」

And thus, Ryuk announced.

「Aah! Ueeeeh… big brother looosst~~」

Rafinha broke down in tears, so Inglis patted her head softly to pacify her.

「It’s okay. I shall take revenge for your brother.」

It was unpleasant for her to see the knights losing due to unrighteousness.

In addition to that, she couldn't bear watching Rafinha cry anymore

Protecting her was a role Inglis took upon herself.

Inglis picked up Raphael’s sword that had fallen then strode towards Rahal briskly.

「Superb. Then, do you mind giving a lesson to this lil ‘ol me?」

With a grin on her face, she called out to him.
