Hello! I have an announcement today AND a bonus release!

About a year ago, we had a special event week: for Orc Week, I released a new character battler every day for an entire week. Those posts were pre-scheduled while I took a week-long vacation away from the computer.

Well, it's summer time, and my yearly one-week vacation has come around. So, naturally: I pre-scheduled a weekload of content! I might be away from the computer, but the releases won't stop. In fact, there will be a post every day next week!

Yup, that's how we do things around here. I'll bust out an extra week of releases so that I don't need to miss anything during my vacation. Gotta keep that consistent schedule record going strong! 😎

Therefore... Next week will be Lo-Bit Character Week!

I shared this completed set of lo-bit tiles a few weeks ago.

If these are the basis of a new asset style, we're not gonna get far with just the tiles, right? We need some matching characters.

Over the past two weeks, I've set out to complete a set of NPC character sprites in the lo-bit style-- enough of them to create an entire game.

I have 64+ NPC character sprites that I'll schedule for release in batches throughout the week. With these NPC sprites, and the previously released tileset, and today's bonus sprites, you will have enough assets to make a full lo-bit game world.

Oh... today's bonus sprites?

That's right-- we're gonna kick off Lo-Bit Character Week early... right now!

You see -- the NPC sprites that will release next week don't have full four-directional walking sprites. Each one has a simple 3-frame idle animation, and they're meant to stand in place.

But that's not enough to make a full game with-- you're going to need some heroes...

So today's release is two spritesheets of full four-directional Lo-Bit characters.

That's why I've decided to release this set today. We'll start things off with some full sprites that you can use for playable characters.

There are two sets. The first set has three full sprites (male, female, and a familiar monke), with two different color variations. The second set has some soldier sprites that can be used as NPCs or as heroes: there's two basic sprites, with variations for whether they are holding weapons or not. And each has a recolor, for more options.

You can download the sprite sheets here:

Note: I'm also adding a new "lobit" tag to posts with releases that use this style, and I'll use that tag on the releases next week and I'll go back to the archive and add it to the previous tileset release as well. This should keep these more organized and easier to search for anybody who is going to make use of these assets.

You'll see another post tomorrow for the regularly-scheduled request thread at the beginning of the month. After that, I'm gonna be on my vacation-- and you'll get a ton of new NPC sprites! Look forward to it.

(tbh, even if you aren't planning on using the lo-bit style assets, I think it'll be fun to check them out-- I'm proud of this little collection and look forward to sharing them with you!)

Have a good weekend. See you soon.

And as always... thank you!

Can we have access to the window skin and font used here? Please and thank-you. I'm loving this stuff, really getting that old school rpg gba vibe.

The font's called "basis33". As for the window, sure, I can probably share it eventualy :)
