Four Directional Attack Base (Patreon)
Content
Hello! I have a big one for you today.
This is one of the most-requested releases since I started the Time Fantasy project. I'm excited to share this with you today. These animations are designed to be used in a four-directional action-combat system.
This set includes the character base (with and without the ground shadow) as well as five different weapons to use. The weapons included are sword, dagger, spear, staff, and wand.
The weapons are separate images designed to be overlaid on top of the animation.
Here's an example:
Side attack with dagger weapon overlay.
Same animation with spear weapon overlay.
Not all of them fit ENTIRELY perfectly-- that would be impossible without making custom attack animations for each unique weapon (and that defeats the purpose). But I think that they work well enough, and that they should look good in-game.
I hope that you find these useful.
Downloads (.zip files):
- Four Directional Attack Base + Weapons (Individual Frames)
- Four Directional Attack Base + Weapons (Sprite Sheets)
Note: The sprite sheets are arranged in the usual RPG Maker format. I only exported a standard 100% version though, instead of the usual larger-scaled variations for different versions of RPG Maker. That is because-- as a base-- these graphics are designed to be worked with rather than a finished asset itself.

Now-- since I know that this release will lead to some questions:
Will I make and release all the characters with four-directional animations?
No. Time Fantasy is too big, there's too many characters. I'm not planning on revisiting them in this way. The purpose of this release is to provide a base for developers to animate their own characters as they need them.
Will I make paperdoll / generator pieces to go with this?
No. The Time Fantasy style was never designed to work that way. I have no plans to convert Time Fantasy characters into generator pieces-- not only would it take a tremendous amount of time that would be better spent creating new content-- the style isn't well-suited for that approach to character creation.
However...
I do have plans to create something that will satisfy the people who are asking for these type of things. A character base and asset collection that IS designed to work as generator pieces, and a variety of animations in multiple directions.
This is a major project that I'm planning-- something to tackle after the next Time Fantasy tileset release. But I don't want to talk too much about that now, since its still just in the brainstorming phases, and I don't want to overshadow today's release.

I have one more thing planned to share with you later this week, or maybe over the weekend. See you then.
Thanks!
