If he wins his debt is cleared if he loses he will work at the casino to work off the debt plus interest.  Losing, the man is turned into a bunny girl hostess for the foreseeable future.

Overstepping Boundaries - TF Short Story : A brilliant scientist invents a device that let's her see alternate, past and future versions of whatever she looks at with more than a few short cuts here and there that ultimately leads to nothing good when she catches sight of her own reflection...and feels the need to see what other forms of herself might exist out there in the myriad universes operating in tandem with her own...
