Listening to this I was wondering if this person was ever a good writer and maybe lost her way and decided to plagiarize or was she doing this before and never got caught. But looking at her body of work on her website, it's surprisingly just a few short stories and articles. I was expecting at least a book or two like Celeste Ng since they're supposedly her peers. Crazy. But hats off to both of you for your scholarship on what I originally thought would be an uninteresting topic but ended up finding fascinating.

I'd respect Sonya if she 1. could rewrite her sources 2. didn't hide behind a racism claim when Dawn called out her story. If you can't handle other people being mad when you write about them in an unflattering way, don't write about other people!

Thanks for this interview. After reading the Kolker article I was so incensed by Larson and the CMs' behavior that I sleuthed into the court docs a bit, but really it was the investigative work done by the woman behind the Kidneygate twitter account that distilled it down into a much more cohesive and absorbable framework for me. One which clearly proves how despicable, not to mention idiotic, Larson and her flying monkey buddies are (such an apt description of them). It continues to disturb me how many people seem to think that this sort of treacherous behavior is par for the course in the writing world, and is somehow acceptable. The indefensible acts of plagiarism, gaslighting, racial identity bs, the mocking and hatefulness of this CM group cannot be overstated. I cannot believe Grub Street let Chris Castellani keep his employment after his nasty statements about Dawn were revealed. Disgusting. I also read Larson's The Kindest, and fully agree with your assessment. There's a ridiculous metaphor near the end about some sort of underground river that is truly so dumb I can't believe she has any accolades for it at all. Again, thanks for the interview with Kidneygate. I wish she'd reveal her identity bc I'd like to follow her other works, but I understand.
