The point about people co-opting woke lingo and acts is so on point. I remember when they revealed how Stormfront was a brutal Nazi. The Twitter woke crowd was so pissed. They thought she was a sassy liberal woke babe (and revealed that crowd does not read the comics they want to make more "woke").

Ugh. This was torture to get through for a Garth Ennis fan. I think you guys are really off base on your description of Ennis as being just an "edge lord" and would urge you to try reading some of his work again. Ennis has remarkable strengths at writing about war and history and surprisingly can be very sentimental and romantic in all his work. I'll grant that there is often some shocking gross out humor that seems to be more of a British thing, and that can be an impenetrable hurdle for most people to get past. And I'm not sure it's accurate to say he is jealous of superhero comic titles outselling 2000 AD. I've seen him say a number of times that he doesn't hate superheroes he just is uninterested in them and his sensibilities are more grounded in realism, particularly war.
