you guys are on to something. The point that T insisted on around minute 18 is leaving out something. the political economy of black music is even more consolidated today than it was in the past. Lester Spence speaks about hip hop's role in the broader neo-liberal turn socially. I think the dependence on rappers/music for social consciousness/activism is similar to how he describes black politicians in the 21st century as well. Also, Jared Ball would be great to talk about this as well.
