Interesting discussion about class vs race. I don’t think it has to be either/or. I think it can be both. Citations Needed just did a good episode about how none of the left-leaning progressive candidates in America are talking about foreign policy at all, just domestic issues, which I think ties in with what you and D were saying, as America’s foreign policy is very damaging and dangerous to many people of colour around the world. I think if a left wing president was elected with a majority of left wing democratic senators in both houses, neoliberalism was scrapped and wealth was massively redistributed, this might create a good space culturally for black people to air their grievances and have a far more receptive audience, possibly. Obviously that’s purely just conjecture. People on the left in America should push the democrats hard to keep race in the foreground of the campaign and not let it get sidelined. Here in the UK, Jeremy Corbyn has done a bit triangulating on immigration/border control, which is heading into very problematic territory. And people on the left here are being very critical and vocal about so we also don’t just sideline these issues to focus on class and economics.
