I've noticed lot of black women and girls in the cosmetics/beauty community have always drawn attention to this phenomenon in the form of the names of shades of makeup. Darker skintones are usually named after food - "nougat", "toasted marshmellow", "deep chocolate" where as white shades are given more visual/non-sensory names, such as "beige" "cool neutral" "sand". In a lot of comment threads on new makeup lines and stuff people draw attention to it.
