Interesting discussion. I don’t exactly agree with the characterisation of Django in not killing the DiCaprio character. My take is that Django, although provoked, does not kill the plantation owner because he understands that it would jeopardise his singular goal of rescuing his beloved wife. The white, liberal, European protagonist does act, eventhough he must be aware that his actions are potentially suicidal for the both of them. Tarantino positions Django as acting strategically, while his European colleague lacks impulse control, reversing the age old stereotype of the impulsive black, and the calm and calculating white.
