Chapter 212 – Deals

I smiled as I watched the figure on the other end of the zoom call. He was an ‘interested business associated’ that had been given my number by the Columbian representative at the meeting where I sold them the ships. Well, we both knew that he was a leader of one of the cartels, looking for a cheaper way to get his product to the American markets.

“Yes, Señor Gutiérrez. I agree that a connection to your country could be a great boon, especially for trade. Obviously, I can’t make any calls about how your traders and goods would be received when they come over. All I can do is facilitate the connections.”

“Ah, yes. We already have some business partners in Miami, but shipping costs can be so terribly high, especially lately, when travel has become more dangerous overall. We would be very interested in finding a discrete provider for courier services.”

“Well, discretion could be an issue. Obviously, connecting to the main network would open you up to observation by outside parties. If you want a more secure linkage between, say, a facility in Medellín, and one in Miami, that could be arranged, though at a higher price.

“Unfortunately, once set, the connection can’t be moved, so we would need to conduct a separate deal if one of the end points needed to move. If you or your Miami connection would like, I can have one of my people give you a security review, and find the best way to hide the connection point, for an additional fee.

“However, I must warn you that, due to the nature of the connection, the System will not allow it to be completely hidden once made. But, if you have some isolated room or basement that the connection can be made in, then it would be possible to keep others from knowing the connection is there, until they are right on top of it.”

Gutiérrez smiled. “Excellent, excellent. And I understand about how the System may make complete discretion impossible. Unfortunately, no courier method is without its drawbacks.”

“Now, if the connection is somehow discovered, is there any way to prevent unwanted guests from getting into our operations area from the other side? Obviously, we’ll try and keep discovery from happening, but we do try to plan for all eventualities. I’m sure you understand.”

“Of course, of course. I understand perfectly how annoying it is to have uninvited guests getting places they don’t belong. To that end, we can arrange for the connection to take unauthorized users someplace… unpleasant, where they won’t be able to interfere with your operations.”

“Would this be a personal check, or would the System be identifying unauthorized individuals?”

“Well, that depends. Fortunately, there are a variety of ways you could secure the connection. We actually have four standard security packages to offer you. If you like, I can go through all four packages, and their strengths and weaknesses now.”

“Yes, please. Obviously, I want to make the best choice for my business.”

“Of course, Señor. Now, Package A is our only personal check package. It would involve a security checkpoint, with an individual actively using an appraisal skill on each individual, and checking them against a pre-approved list. This offers all the strengths and weaknesses you might expect out of having what amounts to a door man, which I’m sure you’re already familiar with. To be honest, this package is primarily for those with a deep mistrust of the System’s automatic properties, as it is the least secure.

“Package B works on a token system. For a modest per-token fee, we would provide you a token or pass that would allow the bearer to pass through the portal unhindered. The strength of this system is that it can easily scale to any numbers you might need, and revoking authorization is as easy as taking the token away. The weakness, as I’m sure you’ve guessed, is that tokens can be stolen or misplaced.

“Package C is a contract system. An authorized user signs a contract, which is binding through the System. After that, they can come and go as they please. This system offers the best security, as the System can enforce the strictures of the contract. However, this is the most intrusive System-based package we offer, and it becomes more difficult to revoke authorization once given.”

“I can’t say as any of those packages are entirely appealing, Señor Kuronoth.”

I nodded once. “Yes, I figured they wouldn’t be entirely to your liking, Señor Gutiérrez. But I wanted to do full disclosure before I told you about our fourth package, so you could make an informed decision.

“Package D is what we call a hybrid package. Permanent users, would be under contract, with all the benefits of Package C, but there would be an option for temporary or guest users to have tokens, as with Package B. This limits the risk of tokens getting lost or stolen, while still allowing you to quickly get temporary workers in the field without worrying about contract issues.”

“Yes, that sounds like the best option.”

“Wonderful. Now, before we get into the specifics of costs, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that, should your local version of the Adventurers’ Guild that we have here in the states want to send members out internationally, we’d be willing to give them equivalent terms as we did the American guild for a link to the portal network. People have been moving all over since the portals were put in.

“I mention this because, if one of your members was registered as an Adventurer, and signed the public portal contract, then, should they be in trouble stateside, and need to get out of town, they could use the public portals, instead of potentially leading unwelcome visitors to the discrete portals. That would also open up opportunities for them to visit some of the other locations linked by the portals. I’m sure a businessman like yourself can see the benefits to your organization of that arrangement.”

“Hah! You make very many interesting points, Señor Kuronoth. I am thinking that this will be a very lucrative partnership, providing the price is right.”

“Well, how about I put together a detailed report with the draft of the contracts, and send them to your friend in Miami, so he can get it to you in a diplomatic pouch? I would send one of my followers to discuss it with you in person, but I’m afraid that my most reliable ones are too publicly known. They would draw too much attention, and I know neither of us would like that.”

“No, no, the diplomatic pouch is fine. Better for it to take a bit longer, but be discrete, rather than rushing and being discovered.”

“As you say. If that is all, then, I will get that report together, and your Miami friend will have it by the end of the day. I’m sure a man of your importance is always busy, but don’t hesitate to call me when you get the package, and we can finalize the details.”

“Perfect. Chao, Señor Kuronoth.”

“Chao, Señor Gutiérrez.”

As the call ended, I smiled, and looked over to the succubus dressed up as a secretary. She had the skills of a secretary and a sexretary, and enjoyed the roleplay. One of my more fortunate summonings. At the moment, she was dressed in a lovely white blouse that only just managed to keep buttoned over her chest, and a miniskirt that gave everyone a wonderful view every time she bent over.

“Tryxnell, put together the rates package we talked about, and have one of the Swamptown couriers take it to the Colombian consulate in Miami.”

The succubus smiled with a come-hither gaze. “Of course, Master. Will there be anything else?”

I grinned at the sexy sexratary succubus, and beckoned her over. “Hmm. I don’t have to send the package quite yet. Why don’t you come over here, and help me relax?”

“Oh, Master!” She giggled, and began unbuttoning her blouse.

“No, leave it on.”

She grinned knowingly at me. Naked was good, but, if you were roleplaying with an office setting, then doing it with the clothes on was a nice little change of pace. Made it feel naughtier, like you were trying to hide it.

Stalking towards my desk, she walked around behind the desk, and bent over at the waist. Reaching forward, her hands slowly pulled down my zipper. Reverently, she pulled out my cock, and, as I slipped my hand up under her miniskirt, took it into her mouth.

It was good to be me.

(Swamptown)

The Angel smiled as she stepped out of the Adventurers’ Guild. She was an officially registered Adventurer, now, for what good that was. Her plans didn’t include diving random dungeons day after day to try and scrape by and make a living, after all. No, her plans were very much different.

But it wasn’t like registering hurt anything, either. Who knew? It might even make her more useful to her Lord. Having followers that could go and do different things under the guise of being an adventurer couldn’t be a bad thing, right?

“ADALANA JOHNSON, JUST WHAT IN THE GODDAMN HELL DO YOU THINK YOU’RE DOING?”

Zannah froze. That name! The number of people who knew that name, and could connect it to her was small. The number that could still say anything like that to her could be counted on one hand. What’s more, she recognized that voice. She would be a fool not to.

Slowly, she turned around, and tried to scowl at the elf woman standing there, looking like a storm rolling in, ready to strike. The scowl left her face, and she held up her hands, placatingly. “Mar, you know I’m Zannah now. That old girl is dead. She was weak.”

“Don’t you ‘Mar’ me! What, you thought you could just sneak off without even saying goodbye, and think that I wouldn’t know exactly where to find you, after everything you’ve been going on about since you found that book in one of the Johns’ bags?”

Zannah winced under the angry elf’s tirade. “Ok, ok! I’m sorry for running off without telling you! I… I thought you’d try to stop me if you knew what I was going to do. I know you weren’t really a fan of my new religion.”

The elf shook her head. “Just because I wasn’t converting with you didn’t mean I wasn’t going to support you, you big idiot! We’ve known each other for six years, and you thought I wouldn’t support you? If I wasn’t against punishment when you’re angry, I’d tie you to the nearest goddamn sign and tan your hide for that!”

“I’m sorry, Maranda. I—” Zannah sighed. “I just wanted to get close to Him, you know? Ever since, well, you know. The stuff back home started. Well, this Kuronoth religion is the first one that actually speaks to me, you know? And he actually helps people, unlike those fucking Baptists.”

The elf sighed as well, though she hid it by pretending to brush a bit of dust off her leathers. “Sure, sure. I get it. I do. And you know I’d help you as much as I can, right? I mean, who was it that had your back when you went to go settle things with your folks?”

“You were.”

“Damn straight, I was! Now, what all have you done since you ran off?”

“Well, I went and registered with the Adventurers’ Guild, after I zapped someone for touching me without asking.”

The elf’s eyes narrowed. “Zapped them how hard? Do we have to hide another body?”

“No! It was just a small lightning bolt. To his groin. He was very much alive, though I bet he’s wishing he weren’t.”

Maranda shook her head. “Only you, Zannah. Only you would go and lightning bolt someone’s balls for being an ass. Fine. I registered with the Guild in Miami, instead of rushing ahead, like you did. So, that’s settled.”

Zannah nodded. “Well, the next thing I was going to do was go to the Dungeon and get a meeting with the Lord. See if, you know, there was something I could do around here to help out.”

Maranda nodded. “Right. So, lets get going. Our appointment isn’t going to schedule itself.”

“Our appointment?”

“Addy…!” The elf growled menacingly.

“All right! All right! Our appointment.” The angel wrapped the elf in a hug. “Thank you, Mar. This means so much to me.”

“I know, squirt. Now let’s get going before we give any of these horny bastards the idea that we’ll start lezzing out in the streets.”

“Mar!”
