Those of you who tried to join our Crowdcast interview with archaeologist Axel Krogh Hansen had the disappointment of Crowdcast utterly failing to even let him be heard or seen, so I have spent some of the last week and a half learning how to host Zoom meetings. The interview is now rescheduled for two weeks after it was originally supposed to be held--so it will be this Sunday, January 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. U.S. Mountain time. Here is the Zoom registration link, and the passcode you'll need is 016298.

The interview will be recorded and, at some point after editing, posted publicly on Youtube. Keep that in mind in terms of what name you use, whether you want to appear on video if you have a question to ask, etc.

If you missed the original announcement: You might remember the story from almost exactly a year ago about the surprise discovery and subsequent excavation of a lost part of the famous Hunnestad runestone monument. Well, Axel Krogh Hansen is an early medieval archaeologist with the National History Museums in Sweden, and it is he who excavated it. He's agreed to come on an interview to answer your questions about the find and about medieval archaeology in Scandinavia, and to update us on what is known about these particular stones and what the artwork on them depicts (a good deal of work has been done on this in the last year, but so far it has only been published in Swedish).

In other news, I appeared for a guest interview myself recently on a podcast I support, Stephen Gutowski's firearms-news service The Reload. Gutowski's project is very similar to mine--to offer good, impassive, expert information on a subject that gets a lot of people's blood boiling and has problems of its own with both self-appointed gatekeepers and people who scream louder than any listener can think. He and I have had a very fruitful exchange lately about both firearms (a common passion) and the "meta" details of our public-facing projects, and so I was happy to appear as a guest for a brief interview in his members' segment this week. You can see the interview on Youtube here (I'm on starting at about 56:00) or you can find yesterday's The Reload podcast on just about any podcast-streaming platform.

For now, I'm looking forward to seeing as many of you as can make it for our first expert interview on Zoom, and I'm wishing you all the best,

Jackson Crawford

P.S. Long-time supporters will be tired of hearing  about this, but Patreon messages don't work. At minimum, I  don't get notifications for them, and there's nothing on my home page to show me  when there is or isn't a message. I can't even always see them when I check for them manually, and you won't see it if I reply! So for new supporters especially, remember that the best ways to get in  touch are just a) to comment on posts like this, b) to post in the Community page, or c) to email my assistant Stella at [admin AT JacksonWCrawford.com]--remember the 'W' between my first and last names in that domain name.

What a great discussion. The Zoom worked perfectly. Put Axel in your back pocket. I'd love to talk with him again.

I concur! An interesting guy and a fantastic find. It would be cool if he could take part in a future zoom. Maybe a dedicated chat about Uppåkra or another site in Skåne?
